I used the one that was recommended a few pages back called Spotflux, it's free and works pretty well, sets itself up too.
I was fine until I lost connection to the server mid dungeon :( Cant get back on now as it can't update EU/US servers again. I just won a roll for some new armour so I hope I still have it when I go back in.
Spotflux is working ok for me but I can't use vent with it - can anyone reccomend any others?
Thanks guys, I had seen that mentioned but had already forgotten. :o
I'm on BT and getting these problems frequently :/
Ive tried so many VPNs now, none of them take the throttling away. And new for tonight, i crash to desk top(2002) when trying to get into a server. I guess it was destined for me to not play this great game:(
Looks like you get kicked out and when you get back in to the game you are royally screwed. Yeah once again the game has become unplayable due to this should have been sorted out months ago like a lot of other things. Hope it is fixed soon, as it's a waste of time paying to play, when you can't even play.
If Spotflux doesn't work for you, you can try some of the free VPN's from http://www.vpnbook.com/freevpn. Although they're in Europe they appear to be in the Ukraine so your latency isn't necessarily going to be much better than with Spotflux. That being said, it might work better for some. You also get some UDP connections, which although generally more unstable provide better latency, which again some may benefit some.
To use the VPN's from vpnbook you need to get OpenVPN. The downloads and instructions should all be on that vpnbook website.
Note: The UK and US ones won't work due to their P2P restriction. Which is damn annoying.
I am also suffering from this issue. When I can get into the game anything I click on takes between 1 and 5 minutes to register and my 'sending' appears to drop to 0.
I am on EE 40mb unlimited fibre optic.
I've read the thread, just weighing in to add another name to this thread.
Getting really fed up as I'm loving the game and my friends are getting well ahead of me now :(
This problem is still happening. Has SE acknowledged this?
Hi I had to re-contract as it was the most simple solution as they wont let me deal with wholesale or BT Openreach directly good thing I got my infinity option 2 down to £20 per month. they way I done it was I called tech support early in the morning took me around two hours and after talking to the level 2 tech support manager (No way on hell they should even have been a level 1 Tech) and a long explanation of Network Traffic shaping and having to get her to explain basics of TCP/IP there support procedure on how they contact BT OR. (what is a total joke they have zero contact apart from a very limited and basic ticket system). She decided to put me through to the department that deals with contracts and services guy I was speaking to there had more tech knowledge than their entire Indian call centre. In the end game works no traffic shaping.
I'll bump.
Im using https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ its like £25 for the year and you have an icon in the system tray that you right click to connect to the exit point of your choosing, its great for US Netflix, Hulu and *cough* EZTV *cough*
And pretty much the only way I can play FFXIV at the moment...
Hopeful of another update from Aethingie today :D
"OMG I don't want the evil NSA knowing when I hit 50 in weaving"
Sigh, another one lost to media hyperbole. The NSA don't give a crap about your internet dealings with Final Fantasy. Besides if you believe the NSA want to know how you're doing on XIV then our government (UK) are doing the same.
The issue at hand: BT need to address this, although I am on BT and suffer no issues (business user) a very large portion of the UK use BT as their provider, helped along by the fact they were the first to offer fibre (not including cable/fibre from Virgin).
Bit surprised they need approval from SE about it given they "seem" to be quite keen to encourage gaming to it's users in a lot of their literature.
Its wrong we all are forced to take out new contracts, resort to VPN's etc. The problem lies wholly with Our ISP's, why do they get away with being allowed to throttle our connections? We pay a decent wack of money every month, are badgered into taking more and more expensive packages and yet they cant realise that a game isnt some illegal shady p2p programme. ISP's need to be held accountable! Btw 7.01 last night game was unplayable, got booted soon after and spend the next half hour fruitlessly trying to get back on Hyperion before thinking sod this and knocked the pc off.
Well and here was me thinking I was the only one.
I spoke to EE and there was no problem with my connection (60Mbps) so the only thing it could be is either Server lag or the reason listed by the OP. This needs sorting. As you can see I am on Cerberus so it is a multi-world problem.
All we need now is a reply stating that the problem is fixed ;)
It seemed to be ok for me last night, I did get disconnected about half 7 due to the error 9000 or some guff like that but when I went back on about 10 it was perfectly fine.
Im with BT and its been fine up until yesterday when the lag was crazy, I didn't know if it was the server or my connection
Just in case you were thinking of upgrading to a new BT contract bear in mind that the HomeHub 5 is out this year. I'm still holding out for a solution here, I'm in no rush to tie myself in to BT again.
I didn't state they aren't tracking it, I just stated I doubt they give a crap about it.
I was told by BT that I was on an old contract that does throttle during peak hours but that if I renew it to a new one this won't happen any more. Surely they should have contacted all the customers with an old contract to tell them this previously? Anyway, apparently it comes into effect on Monday so I will know if it has worked by then.
See the 'totally unlimited' section of this http://www.productsandservices.bt.co...rvices-checker
That is what is missing from the older contracts and allows you to download etc during peak times without restrictions.
Again last night I got severe lag / NPC delays while playing on PC. However, strangely, like the night before, I was able to play right through peak hours on PS3 without any significant lagging. This is baffling to me and makes me wonder if the issue is purely ISP throttling. Note that some people report the issue has not been happening consistently on PC every evening, which confuses matters even more?? Shouldn't the throttling apply equally on PS3 and PC? Is anyone getting the issue at all on PS3?
EDIT: I'm Orange (EE) broadband by the way
post here guys:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...P2P-throttling
and bang on time.......bam in Aurum vale fighting the first boss and i get crippled cos i clicked on a morbol fruit, well looks like i might as well switch the game off now, you get booted and then cant get back in the rest of the evening cos world full
I have BT Infinity and I'm also affected by this. It is impossible to play the game while every interaction takes 5 to 10 mins to complete, if it ever does cos usually you'll get disconnected after couple of minutes of high latency. Send and Receive drops to zero. I hope they fix this soon. How could a game could get classified as p2p is beyond me.
Dear BT , I hope you burn in hell.
Love - FFXIV Fans
Another evening spoiled by it :(
I have noticed one interesting thing about this though - try going on a JP server and theres no problem whatsoever!
I'm having the same problems with BT.
I'm running Private tunnel now and though its not perfect its improved the lag enough to play now.
The past two nights I have not had any issues luckily, don't know why as it was really bad Monday/ Tuesday. Hopefully my luck keeps up and the rest of you guys get yours sorted.
I have been getting crippled by this also. Please just give BT a call
Probably wont be sorted out till Monday now at the earliest. This is one of the reason I haven't activated my game, as there is no point if you are not going to be able to play the game. So this problem has the potential to actually loose money for SE, and if that's not an incentive for them to get this sorted out asap, I don't know what is.
Not sure if this will help everyone but I've been able to fix my throttling by forwarding the ports listed here.
http://portforward.com/english/route...antasy_XIV.htm
I'm now able to play at "peak times" when normally the game was unplayable!
Still unplayable in peak times. This needs to get sorted, I can't see how it is this hard to sort.
