Yep. Agreed. 99% of it is this. The other 1% are realistic misunderstandings that players should back off or, if legitimately bad, GMs are supposed to handle if escalated to them. The worst is forcing you offline to cool off. That's why the multi-day bans exist.

Expect most mmos don’t ban you over conversations typically they just silence you so you can’t use chat for a bit

It's even easier to stop talking to someone if they don't want to talk to you. You're not owed a conversation or even a listener. That's what journaling is for.

Thats why they dont use the block, that will silence you to them but it doesnt silence your opinion

I don't even know what you would you be talking about in FFXIV for this to even be an issue, VeyaAkemi is spot on. The forums should take a page from Discord and show you the names of everyone that has "Liked!" a comment when you hover over the button.

Gotta say, I'm baffled by some of the comments that get liked around here, and it could go a long way in helping us get a better feel for the type of person we're interacting with.

I miss when people were constantly saying old stuff like "provide succor" or "return anon" and I've recently noticed that it's nearly entirely stopped. Why?? :confused::confused: It wasn't that hard to understand, and it provided unique vibes to FFXIV dialogue that I wasn't getting anywhere else. I miss it dearly!!

Some of that stuff has made it's way into my own lexicon, but I'm on the fence if I miss it all that much.

But I theorize there are three reasons why it's less becoming common;

1) It was all Koji-Fox's doing. It's a stylistic choice that was entirely on his own preferences when he was lead English translator. He's no longer the direct translator and localizer, instead being in an upper management position approving the actual translators. He's mentioned in the past that kind of language is his thing and we got it in FFXVI.

2) Said esoteric and faux-Shakespearean language is actually a nightmare for a lot of ESL players. FFXIV is only available is 6 languages, and our client is limited to four, so it actually makes the game unreadable to lots of players that weren't weaned on English courses that were really into Shakespeare and just learned normal, modern English.

3) No other language has that esoteric, ye olde "gimmick" in its translation. While it feels like we're losing that flavor, we're also getting more in line with all of the translations and, most importantly, the original Japanese. The English version is pretty infamous among bilingual players since it actually got a bunch of stuff wrong exclusively because of the flowery language changing meanings while also having lots of pointless cuts when the other translations don't.


So, yeah, I'm on the fence. It was fun but getting a "better" translation is something I'm willing to trade off.

The fact we have an afro with a perfect texture for shorter less stylized black hair styles but we can't get a shorter hairstyle with its texture is racist.

Do I have to agree with you to be decent? You can agree that disagree. But it's not really about that , or the ability to block someone. No, it's social control.People don't block other people.They simply weaponize the terms of service to make their discomfort a reportable offense

I think human decency comes from the ability to coexist with each other and being okay to agree to disagree.

I think the community's kindness bends so far backwards that it turns into social authoritarianism to keep the peace.

Not bothering people who don't want to talk is what I do already though, but as it turns out, nobody ever wants to be bothered unless its their personal circle of friends, so there's no point in trying to start a conversation with anybody about anything. Doubly so if you're one of the dreaded "new" or "casual" players who ruins a veteran or hardcore player's entire day when you drag them into content before level 100 that isn't at least Savage-tier.

I'm just tired of pretending this game is an MMO, and I want to finish the MSQ without needing to rely on people who don't want to play with or talk to me anyway, that's all.

I feel like their lesser known Technolyze is a (concerning) prediction of our sociopolitical trend.

Ffxiv dev team wants to make ffv remake but square won't green light it.

I think the same. Logic that works in real life simply falls apart here. You try to take real life logic and apply it here. Suddenly equality isn't so fair anymore. Nobody like impartiality. And suddenly acceptance and diversity goes out the window if you play a lalafell and want to RP. And creativity isn't about the process , it's about the end result.

This is the same community that holds endwalker in high regard.And yet despises all of its lessons when actually applied

I 1000% agree with this part. It's becoming more and more apparent that people will just dip out of anything CT related once it shows up in Roulette. I witnessed an entire alliance go 'Nope' at the start of LOTA once..and then there's the upswing in people pulling as soon as they can despite not everyone being there/ready or in cutscenes because 'Old content, don't care.' these types need to be punished for griefing if you ask me.

It is in mentor roulette, yes. MSQ roulette is just Castrum, Prae and the Ultima fight.

They're supposed to but that doesn't mean they have to.

It's also worth remembering that as soon as one person eats the 30 minute penalty for leaving, the penalty for leaving is removed for everyone else. So once one person leaves, anyone else who doesn't want to be there gets a free pass to nope out if they choose.

So this take comes with a worry: If it were implemented, couldn't people use it to just go after the ones who upvotes specific posts? I might be misunderstanding it, so please let me know if I am. I am seeing it like that those who us parse tools who go after people.

this community puts way too much emphasis on waiting on cutscenes that are usually little more than "here's the boss" introductions. probably so they can act morally superior

It would just result in a witch hunt. We already have people going after logs and then they would also go after upvote history as well.

The reason is simple.
I had the ability to watch my cutscenes so who am I to deny it for others? They play the game to have fun and it doesn't take much of my time to wait those few seconds. If I don't have time I don't play a video game.
Nothing to do with feeling superior. We have all been first timers in content at one point.

My personal Hottake for this part:
The "faster, faster mentality of the playerbase is actually the one thing that damaged the game the most.
They wanted fastfood and the devs delivered and even when there are better options on the menu they just retreat to the old Mc Donald’s crystal tower because it's fast.

That's what I was okay with the original alliance raid.When everybody started blowing through it, mid cutscene.You could just enjoy it as a movie or skip it and tune through it all

My own hot take is I actually like getting CT in alliance roulettes because they're easy, relatively fast and chill.

By contrast, I can't stand the Nier raids, those ones I nope out of immediately unless it's right before a reset, and even that's a 50/50.

I wouldn't go so far as to punish the veterans and hardcores that want to rush through everything, I just want a different lane from them because it's clear they're not compatible with most newer and casual players like myself, and it's not like the older and higher-skilled players object to segregation anyway given the comments they frequently make on the forums, Twitter/BlueSky, Reddit, and even in-game. My biggest takeaway from Final Fantasy 14 is just how many people hate playing with other people, and then blame the people they don't like playing with for everything that's wrong with the game. (With hardcores and casuals alike pointing fingers at the other for why jobs were increasingly simplified for example.)

So the more solo/NPC clearable content there is, the better, because it doesn't sound like most people want this to be an MMO either, they just need dolls that can play their preferred content perfectly without issue while removing other players as an obstacle to progress, whether that's the MSQ or endgame clears. "Massive Multiplayer Optional" as it were.

The fact that Final Fantasy 11 remains active to this day in part because the majority of the game is doable with NPCs (including the open world) not only sets a precedent that we know it works, but it gives the impression that not enough people were heartbroken over the change to abandon the title. If anything it probably brought in some people who were avoiding the game otherwise.

FF11's need for NPCs was due to a dwindling player count to keep content alive, whereas FF14's has gone through a significant dip even as people continue to celebrate every time someone else quits, which just seems so contrary to how you'd think an MMO community would act.

We're already getting a cross-data center duty & party finder in part because some data centers barely function for group content as-is, and a sizable portion of other content lives and dies by whether or not there's a Discord for it. Arguably Square-Enix would have been better off continuing to expand on Duty Support/Squadrons/Trusts then letting people from Aether/Primal/Crystal play with people from Dynamis more easily, especially when most of the people from A/P/C will just bail the moment they get yanked into anything pre-Dawntrail anyway (and soon, anything pre-Evercold).

For me it's the exact opposite.
I hate PvE content for "Netflix watching on your 2nd monitor", where my input could just as easily be done by a bot.
If I want to turn my brain off I do crafting, or just watch something.

But that's why I also just don't queue for roulettes anymore...now if only the relic quests weren't uninspired junk that forces you into them.

Ill die on the hill that machinist being treated unfair and that it has either been getting ignored or nerfed for no reason in pve content. Dancer is fun dont get me wrong but after the changes in shadow bringer it has not been the same i wish we had shadow bringer dancer back, overall Dawntrail was such a bore half my fc will not come back until next expansion.

That's an ice cold take, Machinist has gotten the short end of the stick since Stormblood.

My hot take is that a vocal segment of the current community is suffering from major historical amnesia, specifically those who migrated from other MMOs during the 2021 exodus. It takes one to know one. having spent over a decade in the World of Warcraft community myself, I recognize the exact shift in mentality and tone. Back in 2021, the narrative was pure praise for FFXIV’s unique identity. and game.. Now it's shifted, and many are turning the very things the game was praised for back then. point for point into negatives, Here and online else on the internett. Then i play trough the game my self believing it at first.. Only to realize much of the critisism and hate i read was severely forced or over exagerated. remembering my time in the wow community. How everyone was desperately playing mind games with each other for narrative control and policing to sway public opinion. It's hard not to reckognize it here.
