Me in 40 years when I'm senile and the last person still keeping the servers online.

Haha. And the Party Finder has never been this populated somehow.
Lost Ark has no real solid foundations, story is underwhelming and poorly designed, the game is an half empty cash cow / grindfest that lacks in some important aspects. It do feel a lot like an over the top mobile ARPG mtx scheme with lots of things gated behind paywalls.
It will be fun for 2 months and then people will hit the grindfest wall and see it for what it is.
i failed to teleport to limsa on zodiark last night because it was so congested, so if there is a lack of players running around, i certainly haven't noticed it
On friday I'll go out in the wild and explore the forbidden west! Be aware you mecha beasts! I'm so excited what I will discover on the horizon!
For me FF14 has a little content hole. I don't want to level all my jobs fast to 90. I was lucky to get both ex-mounts already. I raid 2 days a week with my static so no PF-camping for me. Only 1 fate area left. I hope they will give us the first relic step earlier than in shb. I run out of things to do at max level.
BUT that is ok. My playstyle doesn't fit FF14 to my one and only game.
So Aloy, we meet in the forbidden west =)
I'm watching the Lost Ark Steamchart.
I really want to see what it does around the middle of March when all those founder pack Crystal Aura's run out and it comes time to whip out the wallet. Though it may take a little longer since they gave out some aura time as twitch drops.
If people are still playing by March, they'll gladly pay, I think. Basically, this is the free sub month offered when you buy FFXIV. Either people will leave before that, either they will long after. I do think it'll only be two weeks till Lost Ark no longer has enough players to have login queues, but I don't think there will be a drop in March.
So earlier in this thread I posted some pretty negative first impressions of Lost Ark, then recanted them after trying it, now I must go back to my original thoughts. The moment to moment gameplay is great but the game is suffering from MASSIVE systems bloat. Ive played mmo's for 20 years and I am overwhelmed and only level 30.
On top of that, the pay to win aspect is rearing its ugly head. Pay to win in Lost Ark isn't just skip some levels or optional power progression. It is HUGE, feels very mandatory, is very expensive and could quickly end up in thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. This game will be dead in a month in the west, if they do not change their monetization. Uninstalled last night, cause eff that.
I still logged into FF14, so I don't know what to tell you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh nothing really at that level. But I've seen several guides and videos about what is waiting at max level. Its days vs months in terms of how much paying money can net you. And the level up/story process so far is not enough to keep me interesting. The voice acting is awful, the zones and story very forgettable. I just want endless hordes of monsters to slay like Diablo but in an MMO format, and then to log off. Ive spent far more time having the game teach me systems than actually killing anything and I dont find it fun. If others do thats fantastic Im happy for them.
I don't know I thought it got pretty good, around 30 - I can't remember exactly where that is in the story, and I was always overlevel. Frankly, the story's set pieces, and it's dungeons are very memorable. The zones are varied, and interesting. Boss fights are very fun, and enemies are also varied and fun to combat. Voice acting is pretty all over the place, a lot of it pretty bad, for sure though. This has probably been the smoothest leveling experience of any korean mmorpg I have ever tried. I don't really feel forced to spend anything - and I haven't spent anything. I suppose the systems can feel overwhelming at first, but it's not really that convoluted. A lot of the 'pay to win' seems to have been fear mongering. I doubt you have to pay to log in and kill hordes of monsters, but I haven't actually gotten to proper endgame yet, so I can't really comment.
It has been a quite enjoyable experience after Endwalker content lull, even if the pay to win actually was horrifying and blocks all progress (which I don't think it does), I will have gotten a good 100 hours out of it at the very least - without spending anything.
I feel like its been a long time since I encountered a dungeon. Too long. I want dungeons. If you care about end game progression at all, I assure you the pay to win is not fear mongering. And its not just pay a little either, its pay a lot. At least, thats what I choose to believe from very many sources. I think they should have waited until end game to introduce many if not most of the systems. It really does just feel like an overblown mobile game to me with all the research, and waiting, and crafting and soooo many currencies I dont know whats what anymore.
That said, Im glad you and others are enjoying it. I will be super interested to see how its doing in a month, or three.
The dungeons can get pretty crazy later on actually. The way they utilize set pieces, and scale is really well done in them and the story.
I think a lot of it is - for clicks, I mean. Some of the misinformation, and general nonsensical criticism I've seen, pretty clearly tells me many actually haven't tried the game to a point, rather they have no idea what they are talking about. As far as I am aware, yes, I do think progression is halted until you meet certain gear requirements, for sure, for several months. I don't disagree 'pay to win' is a valid criticism, I did bring it up previously as well.
I don't see why they should overwhelm a player with everything at endgame, when a player can get started with these systems during their adventure. You mean the stronghold? In ESO, for example, it takes MONTHS to level up mount stamina, your crafting, etc. I have heard they added boosts or skips to the cash shop now as well on there. In Lost Ark, it can all be done passively on the side, it's not even bad. The dispatch missions sort of remind me of STO, and sending your crew and fleet out periodically.
Mh that's pretty weird, I'm 29 and I did last dungeon not too long ago. If anything I feel I've been doing too many, in fact I matchmaked the last one instead of soloing as usual to get it done quicker. And it was in the area right before the siege. I've also skipped various for sure cause I haven't been doing the treasure maps anymore, so no secret ones, plus I've seen multiple incomplete in the log thingy.
But yeah, dungeons in LA are really cool, made me wish ffxiv didn't just have the same boring corridor over and over with just different scenary and boss fight. But then people would complain about having to pull levers and stuff, people even skip the puzzles in Quarn now.
I also wish they'd take example witht he interactive events, they feel so much more like living events than ffxiv's solo duties.
Lost Ark is part of the same trend as New World. They are a new Quick money scheme trend of mmos.
The disposable mmo made of recyclable paper to suck your money dry then disappear in less then a year as a recyclable material whose engines are going to be used for the next scam. You have to understand how these are built not to last now, they know you will hit the proverbial MTX wall and become extremely agressive with mtx in 6 months to make do for player loss and become unbearable for most normal players.
I will stay with well built, well established and solid systems mmo like this one. No thank you.
And i'm not confused at all, Korea / Russia are already fed up of this game microtransactions for a good, good while. Not only to talk about that these countries very often fake their numbers with incredible amount of bots / skewing statistics.
It has run it's scaming course in these countries, time to liquidate what is left of goodwill about it in the west for a last dry run and money grabbing.
Love seeing myself as MVP for damage in it's endgame content so often. Makes me want to keep trying for it, so everyone benefits! I do not imagine that kind of system would ever work well here. :p
Yup, people indeed need to do their research, indeed they do. 4 years out, big success in its country of origin, many interesting game systems, great gameplay, and a not too predatory business model contrary to some KMMO. I gave it a try precisely because it had a good track record. Still playing FFXIV though.
I dont see the fuss really. Ive learned enough of lost ark from videos to never even download it. Some of my static is playing it in off time, they r not big fans either. Hope ppl get bored soon and come back to buy our overpriced treasure maps and crafted gear again.
I'm enjoying Lost Ark, but there's a few things that seem off to me.
Having a shop icon on the main HUD feels straight out predatory. The visuals are very lovely, but I struggle to remember that many locales. The graveyard zone was kinda cool, but there were no landmarks or anything that memorable, other than I guess the house with black smoke? Then there's like a forest and like another forest and some sandy area... and they just feel very samey.
Music is... there I guess? I couldn't hum you a single tune if my life depended on it.
I don't really like how much stuff the game is throwing at me either. I'm getting all these weird currencies and cards and items I activate that give me something that I don't even know where it is or what I use it for, then I'm given items that are 10 levels ahead of what I have and are Epic or Rare or something but any of them barely change the look of my character, and it feels more like Raid: Shadow Legends than anything else.
Gameplay is rather fun and responsive, if a bit repetitive. Dungeon design isn't too interesting, but it's fun to kill things, though I can only remember a few memorable enemy types (like the ghosts in the graveyard map). I've been playing a Sorceress and I've been enjoying both my skill set and how I can customize it. Fights are a far cry from older Korean MMOs, which felt clunky and unresponsive. Lost Ark feels super smooth.
In all, I'm enjoying the game, but it has made me appreciate many aspects of XIV that I just have been taking for granted for some time now.
Blade and Soul was also out for years before it came to the West, with years of contents waiting to be released. It was also pretty popular with dozens of servers, just not at Lost Ark's level cuz it is not published by a super-marketing Amazon and it interested in no Steam release. Look at its pitiful state now, barely survive if it is not for the whale carrying it, thanks to NCWest/NCSoft mismanagement. So yeah, being released for years does not mean it will be foolproof in other markets. Perhaps Lost Ark will fare better, but only time will tell.
B&S was also going down in popularity at Korea when it was release in the West, time will tell I guess. Anyway, I finally decided to give it a go and is a fun game. I'm also surprise the amount of QoL you are giving right away or can be purchase with in-game currency, it's like GW2 without any entry price.
Will see once my honeymoon phase is over.
Oh yeah forgot about that and other games to release, no wonder it seemed like it took a little bit longer to queue into a daily roulette.
I really tried to give Lost Ark a shot and it just kinda sucks. Probably an unpopular opinion. They tried to cram two genres together and made something that was a hollow echo of each one with a “free to play” moneypit jammed on top of it all. It isn’t a particularly good arpg or mmorpg. I remember a Korean knockoff of Ultima Online called Dark Ages back in 2000 that was a better and more engaging game than Lost Ark.
In any case, Elden Ring is coming out soon. I look forward to being able to play it seeing as how the model quality and graphics are 10 times better than Lost Ark, and the fact that the game doesn't lock me out of different playstyles due to my gender! Imagine that.
I am sure Lost Ark will gain a core group of players that will buy into it and keep the servers on, Perfect World is still running after all. Whether or not that is a success or not is up to what the developers and publisher are hoping for. As for it being such an incredible success in it's origin market, if it was such a smashing success there then it begs the question why did it take so long to move into other regions? Surely a game that is successful with great player retention and growth would be very eager to move into new markets. I think the more likely scenario is that the game was looking for a way to regain some of its bleeding player base and took whatever assets it had and poured them into expansion into new regions and Amazon, who may be looking to recoup losses from New Worlds very poor player retention, saw an opportunity to make some cash from an already developed and running game that only needed a publisher.
Exactly. I don't doubt at all that LA will maintain a core group of players. It's been not only surviving but thriving in other regions for years now. It's a popular game and, frankly, a good game (if you can look beyond the grind forced monetization). The thing is, it really is a game that goes against the grain of what most MMO players in the West generally want and it hits such a slender niche so hard and so specifically that it will end up turning way more players away than it will keep.. but it will keep some for sure. It almost definitely keep enough of a player base to stay running, especially given that at end game it almost completely runs on whales. So, yeah, any one standing by and saying it's going to completely die and/or disappear are almost definitely wrong. But anyone saying it will be the next big MMO are absolutely wrong.
I don't care for the movement in Lost Ark. Feels stiff on KB and on controller.
Again i'll say it, Lost ark will be cool for the first year afterward the real Krmmo will start and you will feel hell.
People who once complained about relic grind in FFXIV will be crying for the grind in a Krmmo, and i'm talking from experiennce with Elsword|Nostale|Blade&Soul and a lot of other
For me this game slowly turns into Blade and Soul cash grab(with its toxic community). NA/EU version of LA should launch along RU version.
Man, Lost Ark just keeps getting better and better! A chaotic zone chat, fun raids, awesome and spectacular dungeons, great combat system. If it has FF14's straightforward systems and cut the system bloat and P2W elements it probably will get everyone to swap!

That's pretty pathetic.
