I know that, thank you very much. I wasted 80 minutes farming gunships on my own... Also, cheesing the duels has nothing to do with "gitgud", nothing to be proud of here.

It has, because you need to be good enough to do the required CE without getting hit and to correctly do the mechanics of the first minute of the duel. Not much, right? So why are people complaining? Never said there's anything to be proud of. If you're after the mount, though, it's not hard to get at all and it's actually extremely easy if you do the duels.
Oh by the way, since An Immoral Dilemma is linked to a CE, it won't spawn it there are other active CEs, duels or there are active FATEs linked to them...I suggest you give it another shot. Enter Zadnor, go semi-afk and wait for it to spawn. If it doesn't start killing mobs after 1 hour. It will spawn eventually. Yeah, not the best system they could conceive since it's dependent on other players in the instance actively doing fates and CEs and now most people are just afking, but it is what it is...
If you can do the duels good on ya mate.
If you can't, the RNG from the Dalriada chest shouldn't be so bad, or there could be a pity system / token exchange for it, exactly the same as for EX mounts.
Imo the notes should not have been rewards for both duels as well as RNG drop from chest, because we end up with this situation of telling people to duel for it instead of addressing the really bad drop rate.
I was wondering already, but why do you keep assuming I don't already know all that? I've done my research, and after some trial and error (excuse me for venting a bit, apparently) found that An Immoral Dilemma is not worth trying to spawn on my own. In the instances I've been in, barely anyone farms mobs. When they do, they just obliterate everything in their path, not the specific ones I need, not at the location where I need them. From Beyond the Grave seems to be more efficient. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've gathered 47 notes this way in a couple of weeks, I can tough it out for the last 3.
I wasn't talking about the duels, but the cheese strat itself. If the people urging everyone else to stop complaining and go for the duels instead are so gud, then why do they need an exploit to make it? Also, I've just witnessed a RDM try it and fail spectacularly with the boss below 10%. I know my limits, so I'll take my chances with RNG.
Thank you.
Because I have a hard time believing that a fate is giving you so much trouble. Either you're extremely unlucky or you're doing something wrong. And I had some trouble with that fate too and an end to atrocities as well. Keep trying.
Not the same thing honestly. Extreme mounts actually require you to clear somewhat challenging content (x99), at least when it's relevant. Then you have to wait a few months for it to become tradable. It would be like asking for the EX mounts to have a 100% drop rate on extreme trials and a lower drop rate on the hard version. Not a fan of the idea.
Duels are around the same difficulty as ex trials. The mount is your reward for clearing them and pretty much the sole reason for it, and you only need to clear them once. Drops from castrum and dalriada shouldn't even be there to begin with and I think they were added because it was originally difficult to engage in duels, but the notoriety system rectified this. It's not like everything should be obtainable by everybody. But anyway, this system was clearly designed to tell players "you're supposed to do the duels if you want the shiny new mount, if you don't, start praying to rngesus", and I think it's absolutely fine. Having challenging content without good rewards would be much worse for an mmorpg.
I still don't see how wanting an alternative like having to spend an insane amount of coins for these field notes is a bad thing. There's enough incentive for people to do the duels and this wouldn't really change that. It'd still get them their mount faster, among other things. I don't want to not have to grind. Like some I would just like an alternative means. Make the higher rarity notes cost 100-500 platinum coins in Zadnor if need be. It would keep the content running a bit longer if there was something to actually work toward for those who struggle with duels. A slight increase in the drop rates from the instances wouldn't be a bad thing either. RNG is fine. Low RNG for content that won't be this active forever is not. Tying 2 notes to the same chest in the Dalriada was also a bad idea. It should have been Lyon in one and maybe Menenius as a potential drop in the final chest to keep most players from leaving before the final boss.
I don't see how it's so unbelievable. I did state several times that I am doing this on my own. Mobs die slower, and I can't be aware of everything happening in the instance. Besides, from what I've seen, An Immoral Dilemma seems to have a lower spawn rate regardless. Not sure whether it's true or not, but I definitely didn't have that much trouble with An End to Atrocities.
The mount isn't a reward directly tied to the duels though. Most of the notes are obtained from everything other than duels. The exclusivety you seem happy with, if we can even call it that in this case, doesn't make any sense, especially when most people cheese the duels anyway.
I was looking around for a thread on this subject and this comment is spot on. The thread is a bit old, but the issue seems to persist, so I am endorsing it. Waiting is -not- fun. Two things I noted in the new content that aggravate the matter:
a) Players will not wait. I had a good experience with Eureka, despite many having not. There was some politeness to waiting before starting a fate/NM. Here? May the Odds be Ever in Your Favor to make it there in time. I gave up doing anything else and just parked by MTK and Steel while doing something else in real life (!?). CEs lock you in so even worse.
b) There is no notion of trackers, I believe because there is some different queue system. So not only do you have to wait, but you have to actively monitor the map rather than just set an alarm and forget it, or change an instance if needed.
It needs a pity system badly. Let me run CEs, CLL, or what have you towards the pity system and if I am fortunate to be around for the actual fate happening which is closer to a miracle, then great.
The Skirmishers like Steel which seem to require mobs to spawn are even more depressing. Saw 2 people going back and forth between *2 mobs* for nearly 30 minutes, compared to Eureka that had a whole area. You can't even get a larger party to speed it up.
I've gone through the Makai Master, and Saint of Firmament titles, but this, this really is beyond me. I can't understand what the person who designed this content was thinking. It's like the ARR Relic fate waiting for step 1000x worse as it involves horrible rng.
I'd also like to see the drop rate increased. I think it's a sign of a problem when people who aren't even interested in the mount can end up with all the field notes but those actively seeking them out can end up missing out again and again and again.
Adding some of the rarer field notes to lockboxes strikes me as a solid compromise. It'd also spread people out more rather than leave a bunch of people only entering the instance in the hope of pursuing one specific FATE.
The thing irking me the most right now is tying both Menesius and Lyon's notes to a single chest in Dalriada.
I've gotten the former 5 times and Lyon 0 and I'm praying for the method of trading one for the other or a reason for me to spend all these coins.
I basically gave up on Lyon part 2. Got lucky a few weeks back with the 1st note from CLL, but after seeing my 2nd Menenius note from Dalriada...eh. I think I'm done for now. I also realize that a lot of people haven't even been THAT lucky, but I've been at this grind awhile. lol
Even if it's a grindy way, it would be nicer to have indeed another way to get the notes... Being stuck with still 1 note left and unable to get it after tens of hours is frustating...
I'd love some king of "field note fragments" kind of way :
On each Skirmishe/Duty where you can get a specific note, you have a chance (higher than the full note) to get a note fragment, and you need <x> fragments of said note to complete it.
Give it 5, 10, 20 fragments required, with a decent drop rate (20-30%) so this is giving those who are spending(wasting sometimes) their time to get that mount a B-route to look into if A-route (full note) just doesn't do the trick
Yes, you have the Duel to get some of them 100%, but come on, not everyone is able to clear it (and being able to try them is time consuming), not to mention the required preparation...
I suggest the fragments thing cause using Coins could be a bit "weird" to trade from the basecamp (like, the guy is selling notes?! Where did you get them !). I know logic has its limit in the game of course, but let's try not to add more "weird logic" than there are atm.
This seems a bit convoluted, but then again making the notes directly exchangeable for clusters would probably be too easy.
I'm going to echo what some have already suggested, but tying some of the notes to duels at all doesn't seem like a good idea in hindsight. Maybe they could have kept the notes to skirmishes and CEs only, with a slightly higher drop rate, and come up with another specific reward for the duels (because apparently the title was not enough).
I've been camping Steel & Flame almost every day for the past month, #14 has been the last note I've (with averaging 2~3 spawns a day with around 4-5 hours of camping) and I hard agree. I've made about 10 attempts at the solo (I can now dance my way through MFC with ease) but still can't get him past 70% or so.
I think the only grind that I've hated more than this is Alexandrite for my Mythic weapon in FFXI.
I also would like to see having other ways to get the rare field notes. Using Bozjan, Silver, Gold, or Mythril coins would be nice. Make it 500 or 999 if you so desire SE. That would keep people going into the zones and CLL/DAL queues going. I'm not against having them still drop through the original methods as well, but add this additional method for those who are playing more of a long game and grinding in those zones. While getting lucky through RNG is nice for those who get it...it's really, really miserable circling in hell hoping for that moment to come.
The issue I have with the one I'm farming is...
It's scorpions.
Gotta grind them to get absent friends to show up. Then steel and flame, that can drop the field notes. If you don't get it there, it moves to the CE. IF you pass it without getting hit, you can get a CHANCE at the dual for it.
Every single source of the field notes is on that ONE chain.
The person is involved in two other sets of fates, but those can't drop it....
So, everybody is after the scorpions, and AF spawns every hour or so, for now... except when the que is burried so deep that 2 hours pass and everything else spawns twice... but...
FAF is a joke with it's spawn mechanics. The best way to spawn it is in a brand new instance before the cluster farmers start. Other than that is can be a long long wait for it to be put in the queue and not get kicked back by other CE's. They need to drop that note in another skirmish to help fix the problem like they did with note 12 or fix the spawn mechanics.
Havok and Supersoldiers in Zadnor are perfect examples of correct spawn mechanics and the opportunity to get a 5 star note in two skirmishes other than running the Duel. MDK in Souithern is also a good example o a skirmish that spawns without the silliness for the opportunity to get a 5 star note.
Agreed.
I've already got my Ai-iklil bike and it took me 100+ hours of farming.. Some of the drop rates are ridiculous.
FINALLY got my dang notes today. Even one more Skirmish would've been bearable, I feel like I've spent at least 50 hours camping that ONE skirmish.
I feel it would go a long way if they removed the only one CE chain at a time restriction. I get why it was implemented initially but with the way CEs scale now I don't think CEs failing is as much of a concern as they used to be. At least maybe 1 CE at a time per subzone if the restriction is absolutely necessary. Even if you spend the entire time killing scorpions with the way it works currently it can take over 2hrs for the CE chain to spawn and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it which is extremely frustrating.
Probably wouldn't hurt if the cooldown period was reduced significantly as well. Same with the cooldown period for fates/NMs in Eureka now that I think about it. So much arbitrary and pointless waiting.
I absolutely agree with many of the comments above. Here's where I'm still at after five weeks of trying to obtain my last fieldnote...

I'll just leave this image here so that you can understand my level of frustration
I feel all of you since i am going for my 50th Dal and still missing that one Menenius note part 2... I tried the duel 3 times but i just can't go through it. So best luck to everyone in here
Edit: Well Run 50 done and nothing like always.. i got a Lyon's part 2 again (like the 5th one i got) but i never saw this Menenius note drop :/
Well i just tried again the duel trying the cheese way.. I went up to 80% remaining HP for Menenius but i forgot the lost action for tank buster... And well even trying the chesse way i am still too bad for these duels...
I would also like to join in saying there should be both an increase in field note drop rates to a reasonable standard and also an option to purchase rare field notes using the Bozjan coins. I've been stuck on my last field note for over 3 months now with no end in sight as others have reported it has around a 1% drop rate. This feels as unhealthy as clicking on a housing board over and over again to get a plot.
Posting to say I'm having the same issue here - I just need notes #44 and #45 and I've been doing nothing but spam Dal over and over for MONTHS.
I can't do the solo CEs at all - I gave up after weeks of failing them. First there's the spawning the Skimish chains you need, then completely the CE without being hit, THEN being picked for the solo CE and if you DO get picked, you gotta actually win, which is extremely hard to do. Then you have to do it all over again if you lose. And then there's the chance of not being picked for the solo CE at all, or you get hit by someone else in the CE so lose your chance at the solo CE.
I understand there needing to be a lower drop rate for these notes compared to the 100% rate in the Solos, but surely it shouldn't be THIS low? There really should be an update where we can use Clusters/Coins to buy the notes we are missing. Spending months just trying to get 1 or 2 notes is ridiculous. Because this isn't making it fun content at all.
14 is still the last one I need but it's a pain to get FAF and steel and flame to spawn because of everything else spawning.
give or take we wont see any changes until endwalker
FINALLY I GOT MENENIUS NOTE AT MY 61st Dalriada run !!
Don't give up guys it will come !!
After you killed 50+ scorpions and see other chains spawn multiple times and no AF, the frustration eventually becomes apathy.
I don't want to do nothing - even think about it. Just wait to the next (obviously failed) attempt.
Seriously... these notes are making me dread playing the game :(
The Sarutavoir note is the most annoying one, at least Dal gives you mettle and spawns every hour, same with Castrum
His notes only spawn from a fate with a super low drop rate though or from the duel which is also annoying
I've done MDK over 200 times. Literally. Haven't seen the field notes drop once. I know you can do Gabriel, but 200 times and not a drop? There is a serious problem there on the chance of that note dropping. The only two I'm missing are both from Dabog (one in Zadnor, one in Bosja). That's stupid.
Meanwhile, in my inventory after playing Bozja waaayyyy too much

At this point fully agreed. Either the drop rates need to be modified or there needs to be a definable end.
Personally think just adding a buy option with platinum and gold coins (respective, not both) at a rate of either 20 or 25 multiplied by rarity rank would be reasonable. This will keep farming alive for those chasing the end, but also have a foreseeable conclusion.
EDIT
Expanding on that, put the vendor at the end of Dalriada. Can be a shadowy spy selling information, also makes people go into Dal keeping the content alive because they'll have to go in to get what they want.
Spent 2 full lockouts in Bozja today and saw FAF once each. This is not okay.
I agree. I'm at 0/70 now on Note from Dalriada. I only know this because I started counting after the 50 Dalriada completion achievement.
And before that was 40 or so Dabog and a literal month of trying to pop absent friends multiple times a day for Sart...
Ive put more effort into this one mount than any other and honestly Im getting so burnt out on it, its sickening.
in order for it to show you need to put .png at the end
