I'm guessing it's in their low priority list so they keep it at the back and are slowly working on it, as mentioned.
And apparently, implementing gear into the game takes several months. Still, the amount of time it's been is pretty ridiculous.
When they were asked if it were possible to make Edda's outfit into a glamour option they said it would take 'some time' as it would need to be developed from the ground up to fit the various female models. A few months later it ended up being sold on the Mog Statiion. The Gold Saucer outfit, however, has gone years without implementation.
If nothing else, throwing in a pair of bunny ears to be used by male characters should not be that difficult or time consuming.
SIGH, I know...
I mean, the Carbuncle ears are pretty similar to bunny ears, only kinda annoyingly gaudy and glowy...shockingly, I've even seen a few male characters on my datacenter wearing them, and the strain of acknowledging that male animals also have ears hasn't crashed the game yet...
Well, the difference is that the Edda outfit already exists (and probably fitted to every race already, considering that they do it for other NPC outfits), meanwhile they decided to make a new version of the Gold Saucer outfit for males instead of copy-pasting the female version, so that will take more time.
But it's still unfair because obviously they put much more priority on the Edda outfit vs the male Gold Saucer outfit which has been a problem for years now.
I feel like I am the only one in the world who likes Alphinaud's outfit. I would welcome it.
I actually dig the style of Alphinaud's new garbs. Would be interesting to see how it looks on someone with an actual shoulder-span
There may also be a cultural component at play, which is why I don't think it'll happen until there's more input on the male bunny outfit from more JP players rather than them thinking it's just another "#balmung" thing.
Then there's also the whole thing about making gear styles that more than just a niche group of players would want. It's why as much as I want dyeable Bardam's Mettle sets for combat jobs and won't ever shut up about it, I know that the odds are fairly dim because it's not really an outfit lots of people would want (despite how much easier it would be than a complete remake of a male bunny suit).
From PAX East Live Q&A 2016.Quote:
I was wondering if there are an plans to do away with gender-locking on gear.
We understand what you mean – especially a lot of gear from the Gold Saucer is gender-locked. To take all of the things that are gender-locked currently and make them available for male and female characters would take a lot of time and resources, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t want to. We’d like to do it a little bit at a time, and so we want feedback from you guys. Tell us what gear you want us to start with, and we’ll prioritize starting from th- [shouts from all over: “BUNNY GEAR!”; Yoshida laughs.] We get that a lot! You really want that bunny gear for everybody? <cheers> Please look forward to it! <cheers intensify> Also, when you start giving feedback, let’s keep it in one forum. It’s tough for Matt. One thread, not a hundred threads. It’ll be a lot easier to tell the team what you want.
Okay, so he said it would happen. He still never promised when it would happen, nor is there any promise of how far off the male bunny outfit would look compared to its existing female counterpart because of that whole culture thing I mentioned in the second paragraph (hence why I brought up the thing about input from JP players, not players at PAX East).
In the time since the outfit was asked for they introduced countless of new outfit for some asian regions. All of them were created by SE themselves. There is imo no reason why we would not have the male version already if they truly worked on this all the time..
I guess the fact that, all the male developers at SE are uncomfortable with designing the male bunny outfit, is probably a major factor in why its taking this long for them to create this outfit. This is sad.
It's not even slightly a Balmung thing; there are several long-running JP posts on the topic and it's raised in response to things over on that side of the forums just as much as it is here (though with less cyclical debate attached). Those threads have had Japanese comments from Japanese devs. They know people are unhappy. They've known for years. We've had player offers to design and even physically implement the suit; I am not exaggerating when I say I could do it within an afternoon just chopping up existing assets.
When my friend linked me Yoshida's latest tone-deaf comment after we said goodbye to our static this week, I was amazed to read it in spite of the years of disappointment to date. Absolutely farcical treatment from a game once lauded for being equal opportunity and progressive. I'm convinced. Male characters will never be treated properly in FFXIV the way things now are. Respect to all of you who keep on trying to be heard.
(Lack of response to any counterpoints will be due to my account finally expiring tonight rather than lack of interest in ranting about the way this game has dropped the ball so badly on this issue since late ARR. I love this game. I hate that it's become this way.)
What bugs me is that I can't believe there weren't any other solutions. If the devs themselves don't wanna do it, they can surely outsource that one particular gear set. It'll be worth the extra investment just to quiet down the requests for it at this point.
I don't see why they're being uncomfortable about it. They've developed much more revealing outfits for men before and this bothers them?
Maybe they're just imagining the female version on the males but they can freely make a male version. Still, it's pretty pathetic.
rather than quote all the posts from 35 pages of this thread, ill just ask 1 question. What is the major issue that people are having with male outfits? In my opinion there is nothing wrong with having distinct outfits for male and female characters, and some people are acting as if there is some major injustice against male players. What am I missing...?
Were talking glamour specific gear?
Maybe I'm out to lunch but i think most of the male gear looks great. The summer tops and all that stuff, for me, break my immersion and I don't care about them. Not to say that it doesn't matter to the community at large. People are talking about quitting the game because of that... which is not evident in the first post.
Males:
a. get access to less gear period
b. get less exclusive gear (ie, thav bolero, sailor set, wedding tux, gambler sets, aymeric and cid hairstyles were all made unisex)
c. are held pretty low on the priority totem pole (The Bunny Set™, females getting back to back exclusives on cash shop, males getting recycled assets vs. females getting new models etc).
SE's solution to a & b was dumping the 2.0 scion sets into the cash shop and calling it a day
SE's solution to c continues to be the ever popular "please look forward to it :^)"
There are many, MANY fashion choices for men, both cheap and expensive. Both designer and Wal-Mart brand. Fashion choices from all eras. Males in real life can also wear female clothing and vice versa.
There is no overlord that immediately teleports to a man's house and rips his "Juicy" print sweatspants and his bunny ears off.
Real life argument is stupid.
I've never felt starved for choice in the real world. Many clothing stores offer a wide range of clothing for men and some specialise solely in such things. In FFXIV, however, I often feel like I'm cast aside and given less opportunities for daring to play a male character.
We are, what, the basic game plus 2 expansions in now? There are hundreds of items you can choose from to mix and match for yourself to get your personalized outfit together, so I can't phantom the problem that this is such a gamebreaker for you (referring to you , not the group in this forum).
Yes, there is a inequality of outfits around between the genders, and I can acknowledge this. But if you're hard pressed for creating outfits for yourself despite the already huge selection available to you at this moment, however, then I highly doubt it'll be different when SE all of the sudden whips out a dozen of new ones with more emphasis on males.
Instead, people victim blame SE for the apparent divide between gender clothes, repeatedly bash their artists for their choices and blow it up to proportion just because complaining is fun.
I understand where you are comming from, but I wouldnt call it a huge selection, when alot of items that males wear are copy-pasta. Just look at the latest crafting gear, guys get meh outfit that looks alot like what they already have and us females get a nice new dress.
As for people blaming SE for the äparent divide", they are doing it, because there is a divide. Female avatars get more detailed outfits, more options and more glamour in general, the males dont. I used to play a male avatar, but since I like to glamour my character, I have decided to roll a female avatar. Atleast this way, I know that I wont get rehashed pants #452
I just want to add, our devs make the ugliest pants I've seen.... and this goes for the vast majority of them.
.... if they are going to make a skirt... just make a skirt. Don't add pants to the skirt as well. We also have far too many "clownish" pants as well. My point is, our leg-wear is severely lacking.
If you can't call the available items you can get a 'huge selection', then nothing will change whatever SE throws in. You either need to be more creative, or seek the sources of glamour pages for inspiration.
I am fine with what we got now. And while you can hope for an improvement of the vanity gear from their side, SE owes them nothing. Drumming up the drama and fingerpoint at the artists for being inconsiderate won't make them move an inch.
And by the end of a day its still a choice between dress and jeans, jacket or sweater. xD
Some have strips, some have cat logos on them.
But yes i do agree, glamour and stuff you want your character to have on its a game itself, and there should be more options no matter what.
Also more options for face changes would be cool.
It was understandable in HW, with zones full of snow, tundras and few places of mild temperatures, which reflected on most of the gear style (more function than fashion).
They did disappoint on giving something else on Stormblood, though - Alone that there have been no new dyes to reflect Kugane's vibrant style is sad, especially since there is a whole color section of muddy browns that many don't bother and that could've been the perfect opportunity to slap something new in there.
