Thanks for correcting me.
We sometimes went to the Wolves Den with my old FC and did some friendly duels, trying to find out whos the best PvPer in our bunch. This never happened again with the new System. For me there is no polishing the new System... the only thing i would want is the old System back. That said: there is one funny thing about the new System: Returning/new people, joining PvP for the first time in Months and yelling in the Chat: "OMG MY SKILLBARS ARE BROKEN! WHAT HAPPENED?"
I am almost to the point of finding a new game entirely. The story is great and that is the only thing that keeps me returning. ARR I tried the raiding thing but then decided it wasn't worth it and realized it was the same gear elevator that WoW went through. So in 3.0 I played the elevator game a bit but never cared about raiding and just did my weekly tomes to stay relevant with current content. Then I discovered PvP and fell in love with it. Then 4.0 came along and destroyed the mode and it keeps getting worse. But the only thing keeping me holding on is there isn't a game out there that is really any different. I guess I could fire up my ESO account to see what it is all about.
The further and further class limitations are really hindering me and while some games have an "illusion of choice", FFXIV has none. In WoW you could at least tailor your spec for your activity.
It was the same on my server, there used to always be a bunch of people dueling each others or warming up for their Feast match in the arena and I was able to learn and improve a lot with them and they even invited me in their PVP LS.
Going in the Wolves Den now and seeing none of them around (not even in the LS) pains me a lot...
the only -good- change they did to pvp was merging combo skills into the same button
would be nice to have that in the whole game- as an option to save a few button spots, since very, very rarely will you want to interupt combos anyway.
everything else is terrible PVP wise though...
The pvp is already dying just look at the que times, this is death sentence if they not change something immediately.
I only got to PvP in stormblood and seeing you guys talk about the old PvP makes me want to play that so badly :(. There are so few skills on nowadays PvP, it's weird
This new map and rules really makes me miss the old style now.
I feel the same way. I wish 8v8 was still a thing. >.> ...
I dont miss some old pvp aspects, but I find new pvp to have gotten boring very quickly. There just aren't enough buttons to press as caveman as that sounds. Also I liked a lot of the pvp only abilities.
I disagree with this, because this is exactly how I feel the new 4v4 is. 8V8 was just a fast paced cluster of people diving in, hitting eachother until something dies, getting boxes if they randomly hit them, and having no true team-factor or tactic-based strategy. To me, this is what the new 4v4 is. It's literally just hit eachother with your 8 buttons until something dies. There's no way to communicate tactics, no real team effort, and as a solo player there's rarely anything you can do to 'carry' a game despite how skilled you are. With the addition of people raising on the spot they died in, there is no more retreat and, as such, it becomes merely 5 minutes of consistant fighting with no respite or way to think.
Alongside this, light medals punish the team who wins insanely. Get 3 kills very close to the beginning because you're team is simply better/more co-ordinated? Well, tough. Now the enemy team has 4 minutes of vuln down and you have 4 minutes of vuln up. Even as an amazing healer you will simply just run out of MP. It's gotten to the point where it's more valuable to lose the majority of your medals at the beginning and then just steal them at the end.
Yeah, I have lost so many games that was "won" cause my tank that was carrying almost all the medals died with 20 seconds left. But I kinda disagree with one thing, for me, if you're good you can help a lot in winning the game, not carry it alone, but your chances of winning is higher then the average player.
SE should add an "Unlocked" PVP mode, where we can play all the maps/modes with our full job abilities, like it was back in 3.0.
Op was talking about PvP when we had all of our abilities, not just 8v8 in the new mode. And I agreed with him/her.
About your other points... Okay, I don't disagree really but... I still miss 8v8 as a (less competitive, less personal) PvP mode... I'm sorry 4v4 got gimped, but at least it didn't just get straight up deleted -.-
I miss the ninja'd kill and base stealing :(
Did someone say: Ninja'd kill? :D

I agree with this and get into big fights with my friend on how "balance IS NOT necessarily a good thing...." when we pvp'ed on wow. He was always a yuppy conformist so what do you expect ;P
I never played enough WoW during long enough sections to really test this, but it always seemed that Blizzard would just rotate classes in and out to be just slightly more OP than the others as a flavor of the month to keep it interesting and just used "balance" as an excuse for changing abilities.....if it were true, I don't think that's a bad tactic for any game.
My wife and I used to enjoy pvp and did the roulette almost everyday along with a few more rounds. It was really fun. I thought the changes sounded good at first and was really looking forward to it. But honestly, I just don’t like it at all. All of the skills that made in fun and gave it depth are gone, and it’s just boring and uninteresting. I feel the trimming down of skills for PvE was enough for PvP too. Ive got everything on 2 cross hotbars, with some extras on my 3rd with plenty of room for a few of the PvP skills. Hopefully they’ll revisit this in the next expansion and get it right. Until then, it’s just to painful to play PvP, the rewards don’t even make me want to tough it out.
The old times were the best.
Can't beat the matches with the old people, that was fun.
It needs to comeback.
Yeah and i think i remember you from Chaos, i got to know almost all PvP players as i grinded all GC's ranks to max. It was fun because when you played with them and then swapped GC's and they became your opponents you knew their playstyle so some epic shizzle happened due that :D
All i do now is story and then go hiatus until new story patch comes, PvP was my main content after everything else was done but now that all fun is gone from it i see no point to even login. Been having a blast in BDO since last december and with recent updates PvP is becoming more tactical that it used to in there. Oh and i saw some familiar faces in there in form of JoeNeverFails, i honestly didn't knew he was in there and that made me wonder if there is others as well D:
I still try to look up HW p-servers now and then but no luck with that yet because this is what i truly miss https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfXKloYyi8c&t (not only WAR but muh PLD and NiN as well).
Late night 24man seal rock before Feast got added #neverforget <3
I Wonder why they changed it. It seems that no one likes the new PvP. I mean, you have only like 8 skills, it's just sad.
If you thought the bard you had in feast was bad, imagine a bard who doesn't have wanderer's up, can't use half his burst, and his normal skills do less damage than the summoner's egi. He does this to get rid of casting times for his attacks.
If you think that healer you had sucked, imagine them getting stunlocked and killed in seconds, and the game ending in a minute because they quickly wiped everyone else, and just needed one more kill to win.
A lot of the old kit didn't really work well with pvp for most people. The skilled players like it, but it was incredibly easy for most people to be ineffective because it was harder overall to do damage and to use burst. I mean, many classes had four buttons devoted to dps up buffs alone, and that's not counting attacks that did percentage up or reduced resistance that were stand alone.
I'm not the biggest fan of PvP. Honestly only really got into it, to get all the Garo sets. But I definitely had a better time, when I had full access to my abilities. Right now it's way too dumbed down and I always need to readjust to the hotbar, when I go from PvE into PvP.
Did you like instalosing Feast because you got matched with an unranked healer who got murdered and your skill meant nothing? Because that happened. Oh, and healers were pretty rare, so until said healer quit playing, you often lost multiple matches. And queues tanked because of that.
Since season 4, you need to non-stop queue Feast at first 3 weeks to get rank high enough or queue slow down/dies starting 4th week.
This including do not do anything with your FC or friends and just solo queue Feast mode.
This season is worst because of Eureka and basically murdered Feast queue too, it is not fully because of the 4.0 pvp system.
