45 days might make sense for a large FC with lots of players, any of whom can keep it active. It's a horrible timeframe to use for private housing. They need to either triple/quadruple the timeframe for private houses, or else allow simply keeping your subscription active to keep your personal house active. At least the sub can be maintained from anywhere. They could even get away with combining it so that you could lose a house either by dropping your sub for 45 days
or not going to your housing plot for 6 months.
Also, for either personal
or FC housing, items held by the Resident Caretaker need to be kept there
permanently, until either the character or FC is deleted/disbanded. Requiring that we
have to get another house within 45 days of losing one is a total fail in a system that doesn't keep housing regularly available. (Actually, it would be a fail even if replacement houses
were available. So long as we aren't taking up a plot in the interim, we should be able to leave the game for a year and when we come back have our stuff still available with minimal setup to redo it in a new plot.)
Their current plan effectively says that if you ever leave the game, even briefly, you're never allowed to come back, unless you want to just start over from scratch. That kind of attitude can ruin an MMO.
We'll deal with that when SE moves private housing to a different system, as they were supposed to do in the first place.
Currently, however, private housing is there in the same wards as FC housing, so the plot reclamation system has to allow for the fact that private housing with only
one player to keep it up is in those wards.
SE's plan fails on that.
For a couple more minor points (once the game-killing duration issues are addressed):
If we have to go to our house regularly, make it a free teleport to get there. (The game world enlarged significantly when HW came out, so we're kind of due for another free porting option anyway.) Currently, if I want to reach my house, the pattern is:
1) Teleport to Limsa Lominsa Aetherite (because that's my Free Teleport location).
2) Aethernet to the Aftcastle
3) run to the lift in the Adventurer's Guild
4) take the lift to the airship terminal
5) take an airship to the Gold Saucer
6) take an airship to Ul'dah
7) take the lift to the Ruby Road Exchange
8) run to the Aetherite Plaza
9) Aethernet to Goblet Ward 8
10) Aethernet to the Southeast Aethernet shard
11) run the last block and a half to my house
Occasionally, I'll spend a few gil to replace steps 7-11 with a teleport to my house, but I have to get as far as Ul'dah before I'll do that or it's just too expensive. So when getting there is a matter of either 11 steps (8 of which have loading screens) or 7 steps and a gil cost, is it any wonder I don't go there as often as I'd like? Make it inherently a free port, or at the very least let us select it as our free destination or Return Home location, and we could just go there directly.
The other issue is with furnishings that are destroyed upon removal. It should really never have been a thing in the first place, but at the very least housing reclamation should be an exception to it. Keep
ALL our furnishings with the caretaker, and keep them there permanently until we can retrieve them.
