Maybe they intend to add something in the future like GW2 where the NMs get progressively stronger depending how many people are in the area, and players are rewarded for relative partcipation (or absolute).
So a zergable NM may just be a placeholder.
Spoiler warning for the uninitiated!
In the plotline, you tried to get the beastmen to cooperate with the other races, but they said fuck it. Later, it's revealed that those working with the order of the Twelve(IE the player) were seen as beastmen.
There's nothing in the plot that says the beast tribes aren't out for themselves and their primals, who seem hellbent on screwing everyone else over. In fact usually every piece of lore we get about them is usually either about kidnappings, beast tribes amassing more and more power, becoming more reclusive and hostile, or being outright at war(in the case of the dragons and sahagin. Besides, the Grand Companies work towards their home nation's interests, which so happen to be under threat of attack by beast tribes.
There's no lore reason that says we can't bust up some beast tribe strongholds. Quite the opposite in fact.
I interpretting the plot line as we have to team up with the beastmen in order to stand a chance against the empire. We just failed in our first attempt in a truce/treaty. Together we stand a chance. Seems counterproductive to kill their leaders.
in ffxi we killed goblins and we traded with some, same ish. probably some that ain't so nice and up to no good. people over think stuff. i'm sure it will all fit together when it's all released.
Perhaps the beast tribes have multiple leaders, with different points of view. Some of their leaders value cooperation with the city-states against the Garleans, and some value screwing the city-states and trusting in their primal. Since the "hostile" beast tribes appear to value strength above all else, perhaps it's time for some "aggressive negotations", to convince those beast tribe leaders that think the city-states don't have to the strength to stand up to the Garleans!
Nah we don't need the beastmen we have the ability to summon remember. The beastmen will remain crusty and we'll get sent off to gain our very own summon and use it to beat up that Judge Vader guy. Something really bad will happen and maybe we'll even find out why bahamut's corpse is wrapped around a crashed airship in Mor Dhona. The whole world will be saved and the empire will remain in Ala Mihgo and continue to be dicks.
New info from French forum dev post about Beastmen Strongholds.
“The number of enemies in these open-world events will vary based on number of players present. I cannot tell you how it works exactly (how the number of enemies vs number of players will be calculated).”
I’ll let Perrin post it "officially" in his French *> English thread.
if you really thought about that you would know that it only takes one letter in a language to make a completely different word and meaning, "Like" and "Live" for example have NOTHING in relation to eachother(meaning-wise) yet just one letter changed everything..so if you're really asking the question, then who knows, if you're trying to be sarcastic, then fail.
you must be a complete moron if you thinking adding content to a game isnt a way to make money. do you know ANYTHING about this industry? if a game doesnt have anything in it, its not a game, if theres glitches in a game fix them, but if theres not anything IN THE GAME then no ones goingto play it meaning they wont have money to continue fixing the glitches and bugs meaning they shut it down. you have to keep things balanced otherwise there wont be anything left of this game but memories. get off the soapbox and stop wasting space with your unhelpful comments and badgering of people you think your smarter than when your not
and how long ago was 2nd grave for a 20+ yr old? let alone the fact that when people type they type for people to see what they have to say, if they spell a word wrong or use the wrong word like your you're its simply because the message is more important then the grammer involved.
aaand..not giving them contents gonna want them to stay? New Player:"wow this games cool, what all can i do in it?" not so new guy: "oh you can kill monsters..go fishing..all these crafts and collecting, kill more monsters...go fishing...uhh yea" New Guy: "oh.... anything else?" Not so New guy: well i mean theres the storyline and stuff too, hello? New Guy:*left 5 minutes ago*"
no..but they are part cat right? cats think of themselves as gods so..that sort of explains it? lol
lol I wasn't whining I was more stating to the person I was responding to saying that "it was useless crap that they shouldn't waste their time on"... I was stating the day 1 thing just because people need to stop complaining about them "Wasting resources" when they aren't.
on a side note I am glad we have already moved on from all that arguments to the actually meat of the topic. So I think it would be awesome to let that conversation continue to lay dead! ^.^
Well, what can i say. Beastmen strongholds are from the most highly anticipated features for me in this game as was the case in XI.
I'm glad they made it open world instead of instanced, that's a plus in my book.
My instant major gripe however.. just looking at these pics as has been stated few times already
This is precisely what's been troubling me for a while now, everytime i come across these pics. I was expecting big separate zones/towns/areas as well. I am quite unhappy about what these screenshots are implying, i was really expecting something much different and new. I've pretty much gone through all the related posts and producer letters and it's very disheartening to see nothing indicating otherwise. The pics posted by the Rep don't help the case much either, i think it's evident.
..!? Only one kidding himself is you.
Please don't try to insult our intelligence trying to equate this to Davoi, Castle Zvahl, Beadeaux, Castle Oztroja, Temple of Uggalepih, Den of Rancor, Quicksand Caves or Sea Serpent Grotto.
The point is not whether it's in the same region/continent or not, it sure is likely to be, but rather the idea of having them as new separate areas/zones, with new land textures, new maps, new everything, just as a new refreshing and thrilling experience. Where's the fun if it's just the same mobs in the same zone with the same land texture? Been there, done that. When people complained in the previous patch that the settlements are a lame attempt of a stronghold, we heard, wait for 1.19, frankly it doesn't look any different now judging from those pics, except they occupy a bigger area. Joy..
It's these very things that are making me lose faith in XIV. I don't have so much of an issue waiting things out, obviously they need time to develop, we've all been patient, it's been a year already, but what i do expect as a standard for such a high caliber title is that when some new awaited content is released, it should be well worth it. not band-aids. I mean how much work was really done to slap some already existing beastmen mobs onto an already existing land with a few huts here and there? They were busy with other content? I would question priority but that is subjective, at the very least I would say they would have been much better off to have left strongholds out of this patch and have taken their sweet time to create something very unique and exciting as has been expressed instead of having to settle for half-assed strongholds, which i can't help but feel was the same issue with the job system, but that's another topic.
SE is obviously much more capable than this and can deliver far more thrilling immersive experiences, we've seen their past work.
I'm really hoping i'll be wrong about this when patch does come out, but these pics give me a very negative impression about strongholds and frankly i'm done putting my hopes up, have a good idea by now the standard and type of content being released in patches so far. I'll bet my last gil my concerns are all real and valid.
Princess, you can have my 10 mil if i'm wrong.. Hang on.. no mailbox >.> and uh.. actually..no 10 mil either.
On a serious note though, Can any Rep address these concerns? Or are these by any chance reserved for when Eorzea will be re-designed? Any info would be good at this stage.
In the aim of being somewhat beneficial, My basic constructive criticism summarized below (Judging from the info and pics provided):
- Have Strongholds as new separate and completely unique Zones/Areas
- Different Land textures
- More variety in mobs.
- More dynamic and lively AI, have them patrolling areas instead of all just standing still, have them ambush players, etc, anything to add to the thrill factor.
- Have Quests/Story tied into them
They said there would be a good variety of enemies in these areas, although I'm not sure if a lot of that would be "enemies of different classes". My guess is that these areas will become their own unique zone/area when the world redesign hits.
I would imagine it'll be predominantly camped by the same class.. which makes sense but it would be nice to mix with some other classes to make it more interesting, but i'd really like to see the beastmen come in different forms, shapes, colors, etc. have some skinny, some large, some bit puny looking, the stronger ones sharper, maybe spiky or something. Just to appreciate and distinguish the different ranks amongst the beastmen. Non of that existing now except for their different names which is lame.
As for world redesign, i would hope that would change everything around, and it is likely to since they will all be redesigned, perhaps thats why they haven't invested much effort into these strongholds only to be scrapped away? I don't know.. but if that is the case, then i'm not as bothered and i will be looking forward to redesign regardless. I think that for me will be the real potential turning point for XIV. I just hope they can give us an indication at to the time-frame to get a bit of an idea. So far, it feels like a distant project.
Got a new video from Foxclon for all 3 strongholds!
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l=1#post347040
Epic.
Also, didn't I say there would be 3 strongholds? I like when I'm right :3
The first two definitely gave the Stronghold vibe!
We'll have the to check the third one and see for ourselves. Though pictures and video did not seem to redeem it xD.
I hope they expand on them, adding additional caves/areas/NM's/events/quests in the future.
Gridania's beastmen are pussies.
The Sylph's are in Gridania zone and per story so far the Empire destroyed the Sylph's home and stronghold, thats why it's not there. or was it that it is hidden from everyone's eye? I rightly can't remember which but it's one of those 2 -.-;;;;;
