The Ninja Superthread

Interesting. I know all damage in the game has a +/- 5% variance to it. It's possible our "true" LB1 damage was smack in the middle (8.4k) and we were just getting the low end every time without TA and the high end with it, which incidentally replicates a 10% damage increase precisely. To be fair, the sample size was only 3 LBs with each (so 6 total) so it's possible knowing how busted RNG is for my group. Mainly wanted to get others doing testing as well.

What's the ideal DPS I should be aiming for? Last night I ended up with 457, then when i left combat to end the parse, I had 448. Here's my lodestone to give you an idea about what gear i'm using:

I can't really tell you if it's bad or not, but i have mostly crafted left side (with HA cleavers) and i get around 485-520 depending on my mudra lag. It varies for me lol. ith dex party buff.

Tried again, and got 454 with a party buff. Either the party buff is minor, or I screwed something up somewhere.

How bad is your mudra lag? What opener/rotation are you using?

Mudra lag was near non existant given it was 6 am-ish at my time. What I did was:

Huton(pre pull) > SE > GS> DE> Mug> Mutilate> Jugilate> SE> SF> SE> Suiton> GS> Trick attack> AE> KS> Raiton > Then work off of whatever is about to fall off first from there on. I can provide a video if necessary.

Replace xpot with Jug or Mug if you'd rather not use pots while training.

Also, make sure you have a venom active. For whatever reason, they like to fall off now every time you enter or leave an instance.

Are you having a WAR help you keep the buff up? I noticed when parsing with one on a dummy, I had a hard time aligning things because of myself waiting 15sec to begin. Have you tried seeing what you do with no WAR and you doing Dancing Edge? Even with mudra lag at it's worse, it does not drop your DPS that dramatically.

@Best-MNK-NA: Thank you for your help a couple of weeks ago. I've gotten two new pieces of gear (Dreadwyrm Sash of Scouting, and Ironworks Brais of Scouting) since, and settled on using your opener (although I do Trick Attack and Kassatsu in either side of Shadow Fang). I've also started using DEX pots. I ended my T11 clear last night with about 415 DPS. While it still feels rather lacking, I feel like it's probably because of Mudra lag. A couple of nights ago, I magically had zero lag, and I was hitting some upwards of 430 DPS on T11. I'm hoping to see the numbers go higher once I am more familiar with the tethers phase of the fight however.

Without my two new gear, on my T10 clear I managed to get to 402 DPS. Still feels low but hopefully it'll push up for next week with the new gear.

Ok, have a somewhat noobish question...

I'm just now really getting started on leveling Rogue/Ninja and only have it at 24. I know it's still a ways off, but I'm wondering what kind of Soldiery gear is best. There's always that chance that Poetics will be uncapped by the time I'm ready to start gearing, but I'm just curious about Soldiery first. I've never been big into running Coil, so that's my only other option. To be more specific, I know the body pieces are Gloam for NIN, but the accessories are what I'm confused about. I know logically, it would seem right to continue getting Gloam accessories, but the Auroral set seems better suited for NIN. Especially with the boost in DEX. Any thoughts/tips for me? SMN is my main, so switching to a melee DPS has been quite a change and any advice would be most appreciated!

Edit: I should also apologize if this is an old question that's already been answered elsewhere. I tried searching for info, but didn't really turn up anything. Thanks again in advance!

As for T12, I honestly couldn't help there...for whatever reason, I've put off Coil for too long and am just now getting through it for the first time. Just cleared T6 yesterday, so that's progress, I suppose. Plus, it doesn't help that I play on PS4. So if I'm ever curious about my DPS, I usually end up asking if it's decent or not.

In my opinion, that's quite good. It also depends how you deal with red fire and whether you got targeted for blue pool most of the time, do you need to chase after bennu? or glue to boss. Like my team, the melee deal with the red fire ourself, so have to run around when get targeted
I was always doing around 440-480ish(whole fight not just the final encounter) when I was using Augmented dagger in T12, with fountain duty(which i don't think affect our dps if the tank pulled boss near it), and also doing a LB3 during start of final phase (we don't use caster LB for 4 bennus), and another LB1 when it's up.

My gear stat was similar to yours before, around 560 crit, 340det, 420ss. This reset I got my dreadwyrm dagger and need to change around my equips for the accuracy :D

What I do was just note down how much i did everytime, and aim to increase it on next reset, albeit maybe only a slight increase lol. I was parsing around 580-600 on the dummy in a 4min30sec duration. From there I can estimate whether I'm doing good in a real fight. Those numbers are with my old gears. This week I had 3 upgrades, finally the RNGesus decided to love me this week :D, so hope can do better next run.

EDIT: Oh one more important thing, was your war able to keep up storm's eye? an excellent war is your best friend that makes you have consistent high dps. My team's war does an excellent job on it, even when he needs to tank bennu and pull it away. always refresh a new slashing debuff before he needs to focus on the coming new bennu pop. This is all due to familiarity though, in the early days, everyone's nervous and I had to apply debuff myself lol

Question: Does anyone know what opener Chloro Cradle from Lucrezia uses? Her/His dps is batsh1t cray cray. Idk when they stream or where so I cant see myself. Would love to practice that.

Probably a variation of my opener since it's much more optimal at lower pings.

He probably plays at/around 20 or less ms of ping, so that opener would be crazy good.

Ah i c. What's yours? My mudra lag is pretty sh1t but I'd still like to practice a new one that's better than the one i currently use (basically same as the opener in OP under Best MNK NA).

What is a good dps number to pull in T13 with 130 weap and 135? Think my best with a 130 weap was 449 or something líke that with running to the adds on 2nd phase and only a few hits on the pain before I stack in the middle for divebomb on the last one (mnk keeps hitting it). Honestly feel I should be doing more but not sure by how much. Any advice will be nice :)

I see. Only thing i never do is ta + kass in the same oGCD, nor jug+mug. I'll try it out and see how it goes, but yea not too different at all. Ill pray to the mudra gods of eorzea during next week coil run. I did notice on Lodestone chloro has a lot of diff pieces to go along with each turn, allowing her/him to get, for example, 558 crit 428 det and 396 SS for t10 while meeting acc cap for that turn at 632 dexterity. Very cool, but damn that gil for those rings(2 pentamelded 110 rings). xD

doing se>trick>sf will still get a buffed sf, i've tested this

i used to do se>kassatsu+ta>sf and realized SF doesn't apply for that TA. if you do se>ta+kassatsu>sf it'll apply, but it'll still work with se>ta>sf as well, without gcd clipping that 99% of people will have

Yea Se > ta > sf is what ive been doing all along. Sad to hear kass + ta wont apply to sf, cause it's the only way ive been able to try it without slight clpping my gcd. Ill try to switch some things around on hotbar to make it easiest to reach on my controller and see if it helps perform ta+kass eliminate the slight clip.

I do notice that when i do se > ta >sf > kass instead of chlro's my raiton is ready at 20 and ends at 18, but doing it chloro way i can consistently have 23 sec left when beginning raiton. This is even with my mudra lag (ps4 so no wtfast battleping etc). Maybe im mistiming or something doing my old way.

Edit: FFS i cannot get ta + kass in a single oGCD w/o clipping and, thus, missing AE on the last second of trick atk.

Edit 2: With some more practice got it to fit w/o clipping. Really have zero room for error on the timing. If u have any mudra lag on the Kassatsu'd raiton probably wont get that last AE to fit under TA, unless maybe sub in fuma. Nevertheless, the mudra rotation itself lines up significantly better for me than before in terms of how many seconds are left when doing second raiton and when refreshing huton.

Yeah, as long as the debuff appears on the mob's status effects, it should apply. It's possible the circumstances may have been different at the time it was tested, or the guy is just too wicked fast for it, but the animation/application is pretty quick for me.

For short fights (trash or adds that die really fast, etc.,) what is the most optimal way to use Mutilate and Dancing Edge? Coming from Dragoon, if a target is not going to live long enough for DoTs to tick, typically you skip them and only go for -Pierce resist. However, that's a 2nd hit attack for Dragoon whereas -Slash resist is a 3rd hit attack for Ninja. So:

-If Mutilate won't tick for a majority of its duration, is it worth the GCD? (Same applies for SF I assume?)

-Is it still worth applying -Slash resist, even though it's at the very end of a combo and takes more time than the example of Dragoon's Dis?

-A post earlier said DoT all the trash on multi-target pulls ( Mut -> SF. ) This takes a good ~6 seconds per mob, taking a decent amount away from single-target endeavors. Worth it?

Yea i just tried it again the Kass+ TA oGCD vs TA+Kass oGCD, and both are giving me same DoT dmg ticks, plus i have a little more wiggle room in Kass+TA so it never clips (versus TA+Kass where it seems if im not absolutely perfect it will clip slightly). Works for me.

Hi everyone! I come to this thread with a question concerning Mutilate. I posted this on the ffxiv subreddit, but I wanted to see some opinions here. I've heard from more than one person that Mutilate is a waste of TP, and that they are parsing even better when it is not included in their rotation.

Sorry if this question was already asked, but that seems weird to me, seeing how mutilate has pretty good potency all around.

I could see dropping Mutialte in a tp starved situation since it's your least efficient move tp wise. But outside of those dire emergencies, it's your second strongest GCD ability (3rd strongest after Trick Attack when including all abilities) in terms of potency. There's absolutely no logical reason skipping Mutilate could at all possibly be a dps increase.

The only reason to skip Mutilate outside of a TP emergency would be when facing off against adds that will surely die in less than 27 seconds. My only other guess is when both Shadow Fang and Mutilate are both about to drop Shadow Fang is usually the higher priority and will get put up first.
