Novus weapon upgrade system findings

So we're promoting RMT. Genius.

Holy crap, you mean gil will actually be worth something now? Mind blown, and here I thought being rich was just for bragging rights in this game. Oh wait, it probably still is just for bragging rights. And gil sellers are actually a problem in this game? What in the world are people using the gil they bought from RMT for anyways? Seriously.

Just curious though, how many of you actually know for sure how much its gonna take to upgrade the weapons before whining? Though I'm sure many of you would still whine regardless of whether it did take a lot or not, relative to the fact that it should be the 2nd best weapon in the game. Yes, yes, I know, it sucks that they may be making you actually work for your gil; silly SE, why didn't they just take out the entire concept of currency to begin with?

You're not forced to farm FATE's at all. It's purely optional how you approach the weapon:
- Daily quest/Roulette for map
- Buy map with 800 Myth
- Farm FATE's

Personally I think this is much better than pure the myth grind for Animus, if you were to do only the daily quests that's 75 days. If you supplement it with Myth purchased maps and FATE's, it's going to be much quicker. Considering it took me upwards of 60 days to complete my Animus books, this seems pretty reasonable. When you compare it to both Atma and Animus phases (a 10 level rise too) it's WAY less work in total. If you choose to only approach it by grinding FATE's or grinding Myth, then that's YOUR problem, not the development teams.

With at least one guaranteed alexandrite a day from doing roulettes, you'll have all the alexandrite you need in 75 days or less. It's just a matter of materia.

I saw those materia prices skyrocket and joined in on it before it busts again.

I have animus Sheild for my PLD. Sadly, can start the upgrade quest for it, until the weapon is animus.

REALLY wish this is an oversight; but I don't think it is because it's not the weapon. *sigh*

Yeah you have to have both done. Makes sense, don't see why PLD should get special treatment over other jobs.

If i decide to finish my novus and restart the quest , did i keep my novus during crafting the second time ? héhé ^^

I'm currently working on my 8th meld and still using t1 materia. My guess would be that you will use 11 of each tier materia to = 44 and some combination to = 31 which = the 75 alex

^ How's the Alex drop rate from FATEs?

mainly been brayfloxing, so im not really sure

Has anyone found out if tiers higher than 1 give you an increase of more than 1 yet?

but you would need to average 1 alex every 2 to 2 1/2 hrs to be on par w bray spamming

question is which grind is more entertaining? bray or fates? if all fates work no matter sync'd or not, a high level fate zone like around beastmen strongholds or mor dhona might be a pretty good choice. but i guess it comes down to either getting your alex for sure or risk to not get anything after 4hrs at all

fates i can durp around in and watch TV. Bf i have to focus but it's still boring. I might try fate grinding this weekend. I can take it casually, do some low pressure spirit bonding, and get seals too. If i can get one every 2 hours or so, it might be more appealing than bf spam.

I did 100 fates in bentbranch today and didn't get any Alex. How has your luck been? Pretty sure I'm going to stick with bray :/

Also, keep in mind that we have the Hunts coming up in 2.3 that we can get Alexandrite from; and, it's also possible that there will be other ways that haven't been announced yet.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they got stuck on unspoiled nodes, with a prerequisite of some crazy Gathering stat.

Wold be cool honestly but I doubt it.

sigh.... I'm not huge fan of melding, to be precise... I loathe RNG being the base of it all. I for one, are one from many crafters who have blown so many, and it is pure RNG hell.

I can't think the horror of wasting hundreds of materia and possibly millions of gils, and leaving higher tier for last stretch might be way more painful. No matter how big are your materia saving, it might be mostly wasted for this. ^^;

I saved so much money for personal housing...seems Im gonna blow it all on Materia >.<

Done 1h30-2h fate grinding, 0 alexandrite, clearly better to kill ourselves on brayflox ...

You can bash your head against a wall doing Brayflox and FATEs, or you could just do Daily Roulette: Expert for a guarunteed map and alexandrite every day.

Burning out before the hunts and other alexandrite options in 2.3 is your choice.

my answer: none, just do whatever activity you want to do since everything PvE50 but 2nd coil and trash farming gives mytho or alex.
spaming one single activity is never the more entertaining even if it's by far the fastest .
for same "grind needed" reward i'd rather do 2H of varietd activitie than 1h of spam 1, and if you do other activities you might get side reward
also stop farming fates with your ilvl90+ gear buy white gear and meld it!

With 'just' doing daily maps (before 2.3) it would take 2.5 months to complete the scroll which imo isn't as bad as people are making out.

If you do DR's daily and a few bray runs here and there you could complete it in 1.5months or less without burning out.

@spellbinder : I would not mind to that do if we don't need 75 alexandrite
1 per day = 75 days. It's more than two months!
if you are lucky or farming myth as hell, you can have for example 50 alexandrite by brayflox + 25 from daily quest : it's still 40 000 myth to do, so 800 bray runs

two month for a stage of relic is perfectly fine when next stage come more than two month after.

2.3 will bring another upgrade to the Zodiac, if they keep their schedule... And since it's been 2 months in 2.2, I think 2.3 is here in a month or so.

If you want to get it fast, you pretty much have to do daily quest every day, farm Myth like you know nothing else, and do Fate grinds whenever you can't find players for Myth farm

I would have thought that the next continuation of Zodiac would be 2.4. Any source that there are further upgrades planned before the next turns of Coil?

I think they will stop at 110 until Coil 3 (so probably 2.4 as you mentioned), I think Yoshi said that relic should not be better than current allagan weapon.

Judging by the recent Lodestone topic posts, I'd say we're getting 2.3 in a few weeks barring delays.
