Is 1.18 the final straw?

You guys make a lot of excuses for S-E... people's unwavering support continues to amaze me.

No. Them saying "There will be a mount system" and nothing else does not mean it is "on the horizon" or even "actively being worked on". That's like if NASA said, "There will be a manned spaceflight to Alpha Centauri" and you would claim they're already building the ship.

A decision for whether or not it will be implemented might be, I assume. If it is on the letter that counts to me as on the horizon.

wow, it amazes me still how many people are whining about "this patch is the last straw" BS. I have some advice for you:

If you hate the game THAT much, then QUIT!!!! No one is forcing you to play this game, and unless you're the Angry Video Game Nerd, you probably have NO reason to continue playing. Quit being so damn fearful of what others will think or say, and do what you must.

As for myself, I intend to stay on, having a level of patience that surpasses Bhudda.

Has it ever occurred to you (and all the other people who make the exact same knee-jerk statements) that we WANT a reason to continue playing, and the reason we're complaining and threatening to abandon the game is because we do not have "patience that surpasses Bhudda (sic)"?

I like this game, as I like all games in the Final Fantasy series. I want to continue playing it, but I do not have the time or the patience to slog through the 90% of lazy design, clunky programming, and tedious gameplay just to get 10% (or less) of moderate goodness, which will likely be in the form of cutscenes.

You have a decent enough reason to continue playing. I was referring to the idiots who post threads in the form of "DUR! THE NEXT PATCH WILL FIX EVERYTHING BECAUSE I SAID SO OR ELSE I RAGEQUIT!!! DUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRR!!!!!" Don't even try to deny it, that's essentially what most of the whiners are posting, and yet when they are disappointed by the fact that the most recent patch hasn't added content, or fixed everything according to THIER vision of what FFXIV should be, they simply whine some more instead of carrying out their threat, such people are hypocrites not even worth listening to.

So I will say this again...

If you truly hate this game that much, then quit, if you want to continue, then stfu and do so, if you can't stand the game at present, come back in 6 months when the game has improved. Just stop throwing tantrums like a spoiled 5-year old because things aren't progressing as quickly or in the direction you want. It's not helping speed things up, and it just makes you look like a complete douche.

P.S. if AVGN played this game, I think we'd see a foul-mouthed Miqo'te with a name like S**t Eater, followed by a mixed review, as the game has both good qualities, and really bad ones.

Compared how much of the last year you've spent kneeling down selecting standard synthesis, any sort of outside world would be enjoyable.

You are not frustrated because you do not value time. Also, you do not value things that require thought. Unfortunately for those employed by Square-Enix, there are not many people like you. Square Enix needs to make money, and FFXIV just ain't gonna cut it with the way things are goin'.

I supposed I'm just too sophisticated to be into that kinda stuff.

As for being frustrated, I'm not frustrated because i'm not having fun in FFXIV - I don't even play it. I'm frustrated because SE tricked me into spending 80 bucks on the collectors edition of a game that was supposed to be the best MMO of all time, and instead they handed me a bucket of [expletive deleted] with a Final Fantasy sticker on it - and 10 months later, the only major addition to the "game" is a weak market ward (which ought to be scrapped altogether) search engine.

This game is as good as dead if it is not mindblowingly amazing at 1.18. Most people I know who played, even some of which were white knights defending the game with every one of the dumbest excuses in the book, have quit playing and many of which do not even care to hear its name anymore or any news of what's coming.

There will be the unfortunate bunch that will stick around ranting about how people just have to be patient and saying "it'll get better it'll get better" but those are the same people who have been saying it since closed beta which was earlier last year.

Although there have been some minor and fairly enjoyable improvements since beta, there has been absolutely nothing which has even hinted in the slightest about this game being placed back on the charts. Prepare to sing your elegies for if 1.18 bombs.

oh you didn't just play the "evil developer tricked me with promising words about THEIR game into spending money" card.

I really hope 1.18 does what it's supposed to do WELL. I lead a small LS of close RL friends and I'm starting to get embarrassed telling them "log on Thursday at 9, we're gonna do battleleves... again..." I rarely log on when it's not a LS night anymore...
I know 1.18 is not the miracle patch, and there isn't going to be ONE miracle patch... but if 1.18 is heralding the big sweeping changes that'll fix FFXIV and gear it towards a new direction, and it fails to impress the vast majority... I dunno... we'll see.

I find it funny how games made by 1-5 people such as Minecraft or Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Castle Crashers (with a handful more) generally have far more depth and entertainment value than most of the games lately that "look" like masterpieces by these multimillion dollar companies with over 200 staff members developing them. Kinda says a lot about the state of the commercial game industry.

too sophisticated? I mean what's sophistication, this whole game has kinda treated us like a scum petty theif prostitutes or something. There's pressing standard, and there's pressing 1, gaming in general isn't very sophisticated, unless you're playing a puzzle game or something that takes brain power truely (even gaming strategy doesn't take real brain power). Most mechanics of games are dull and repetitive. This game just didn't have the lore and shine to back up its repetitive ploys.

Dear SE... take extra time... take even longer than you originally anticipated and make sure everything is right before you implement it....

I consider 1.18 to be when the game actually starts flourishing, from what I've read in the patch notes. If you're someone that considers it the final straw then you're going to be sorely disappointed.

If you don't enjoy the game... Take a break. Come back in a few months time. It's not like you're paying a monthly sub at the minute. :)

The game is not bad at all.
I played/tested WoW for a month and it's not even close to being as fun like FFXIV.
It's fun now and it only gets better every single month.

I have to honestly agree with him... Atm I have more fun on FFXIV then WoW, just like I had more fun on XI then WoW. It all comes down to what you like Solo based game or a Group based game. For me and many others the forced solo game play and over simplification of WoW negates all the stuff that is there.

All it takes is for SE to give us one really good feature. Something that is well thought out and actually fun to do, then I'm sure people will come back even if the game isn't even half-finished. They just need to show us some kind of confirmation that they still know how to make a great MMO.
