In the producers live letter they indicated they are adding more ways to gain tomes including solo methods. I'm really glad this game has tokens, it lets me have really great ilvl 90 armor without having to deal with all the elitest %@#%@'s like most of the people in this thread.

You're right, because you oh so need that high level armor when you have no intention of doing anything more with it than solo play which will require far less than it. It's not elitist to question why some people feel like they need the best of the best gear so much when they only do the easiest of content that requires gear far below it or even just play the game for "20 minutes" a day when they won't even be doing dungeon runs.

Why is the best gear needed for someone that doesn't do any sort of multiplayer content and literally just logs on for the social aspect of the game and to play dress up? That is what people are against for some of the people whining that they need the best gear in the game when they don't even intend to do the content where said gear comes from or that would need the gear to progress.

This kind of attitude is why I believe we need ilevel sync in dungeons. That way, people who have no intention of doing the content that requires high level gear don't feel they NEED or deserve to have it handed to them.

I just want it so deflate the ego's of elitest who think they're better than everyone. Guess what you aren't myth is pretty much equal to allagan so the hell with you all.

Hopefully theres an end run around hardcore content for us casuals for the rest of the life of this game.

I also run the content where said gear comes from or equivalent ilvl gear, it's also required for the end boss of said raid. You sound like you do nothing more than wp/ak/primal farms for guildies, none of which requires even close to the best of the best gear. If you have no intention of dealing with "elitists" or doing the endgame raid then why do you need the best gear when everything sub coil can and is done with ilvl 50-70 gear?

AF1 is Artifact Armor, which is the armor one gets from completing the job story line. Relic Armor is the job specific armor bought with mythology tomestones. "AF2" is some job specific armor that has yet to be released.

You have to be derping pretty hard to think that it's an "unknown source" where af2 will come from. It's clear as day where they got the badge/point/tomestone system from considering said game has had it for years and has influenced every single mmo with tiered progression since it started with it's badges. Af2 will be the new myth gear for 2.2, so lets put this into perspective. When af2 comes out in 2.2 and it is myth gear, does that make it "relic armor" like you say af1 is? Or does that mean that possibly the current myth gear is actually af1 and the new myth gear is labeled af2 to tell people "hey this is tiered progression through badges, we'll probably make all "af" gear through myth so it doesn't make people question the name of it."

To kill monsters that require limited gear in the first place slightly faster like everyone else? Because ak and wp are so hard in the first place that they require the best gear to farm them? Or do you mean random mobs out in the world? Wouldn't it be better to just ignore and pay them no mind? That is what those types of people feed off of anyway, attention...be it positive or negative.

Also I don't know what you mean by saying "hardcore content for us casuals"...my boyfriend plays 2 hours a night IF that...because of school and stuff and he has his DRG and PLD decked out in allagan. He has everything 50, done all the class quests, has all HQ melded crafting gear. If 2 hours or less isn't casual idk what is. >.> There is no hardcore content in this game atm. Hardcore means you spend a TON of time raiding....we don't have anything even remotely close to that yet. We have 5 turns that can be beaten in a couple hours or so once a week...then we are locked out.

The problem here is the Tome system is bad design. It's an excuse for a lack of content, and as you can see from threads like this it's biting them in the rear.

They're just confusing/angering their playerbase with the tome system/relic quest where you can obtain ilvl90 weapons/gear before ilvl70/ilvl80 content. Tome farming is lazy design, much like Fates.

Also, the duty finder should include all the dungeons. A significant portion of players do not have the luxury to schedule appointments (raid times) for a video game, nor the time to spend hours shouting for pugs.

I finished 2 of my Relics doing everything with PUG except Titan in 2 1/2h each. That does not include farming Philo. Farming Mythology is not really "part of the effort"...if it wasn't capped you could burn through 30WP if wanted...all doable in a day easily. If I would add the Philo needed into the process of buying the Oil for the Relic I'm still at 4h tops...

A dedicated FC doing Relic Runs could finish the whole process(w/o the Phil farm part) in shortly over an hour...

To prove a point...here are my achievement dates for Relics I got...

13.09.2013: Curtana
17.09.2013: Omnilex
22.09.2013: Artemis Bow (took a break from doing Relics after this one)
07.11.2013: Stardust Rod
10.11.2013: Thyrus
16.11.2013: Bravura
19.11.2013: Veil of Wiyu

All the Relics from 7.11.2013 to 19.11.2013 were all finished within 1-2 days...I was just too lazy to farm the Philo for the Oil right away. Thyrus and Veil of Wiyu were actually finished within 3h of starting the questline.
All these Relics include farming a Full set of DL for that job before even starting the Relic questchain...cause I don't like to be carried and rather carry my own weight. Also first Relic would have been done way earlier, but I was playing SCH on our FC Titan firstkills and farmed DL for SCH first, while having the PLD Relic quest activated cause it's my actual Main. so I delayed the whole Relic, cause I got full DL first before even tanking Titan myself.

For this game so far I'd have to agree that the tome design is inplace due to nothing more than lack of content. However as a whole the tome design(aka badge/justice/valor/whatever Rift/Tera/SWTOR/whatever else have) is there to hold sub retention, nothing gets people to stay subbed longer and running old content more than gated gear behind a weekly lockout currency system. Everything that has a dungeon currency that is used for vertical progression gear in the last 7 years has taken said system from WoW. Now to say WoW has a lack of content would be laughable at best and yet it's had the system for years, it's the same place ff14 took it from also, however in 14s case there is a lack of content.

I spend 1h a week doing Coil Turn 1-4...I barely have anything else to do in the game besides T5 attempts til we get it down...and over the course of the last 6 weeks we barely got a total of 5h of attempts on T5...that's what most people don't seem to get. If we actually had the time in our Coil group to seriously get some T5 practice, Twintania would have been down for weeks...but oh big surprise...we have a life that we all put in front of the game...so we don't have Twintania down yet...

Hardcore people don't neccesarrily play 10h a day...they are so good at the game, they finish content and things in a matter of an hour, where other people take 3h a day for one week to finish...

I'm sick of the bullshit of "hardcore= no life". I have a job, I have a girlfriend...I have a family that i regularly meet up with over the weekend, I meet friends on tuesdays/fridays every single week but I still get shit done in the game...cause I play efficient, cause I don't wanna waste my time while playing...it was the same back in XI. I had one of the best equipped DRKs on the server...same with my other Lvl75 Jobs(I had 5 of them over the course of 2 years). People from my nation were jealous(there weren't many on the server so basically all knew each other), cause I had acheived so much more than them, so they started blaming it on me playing 24/7...I told them to /played and tell me what it says...out of everybody of them...I had the least total playtime...but achieved ten times more...

PS: People who want the highest itemlvl gear w/o doing any sort of endgame raid are just playing the wrong genre...you don't get the whole system of "progressing"...

If you think having equal gear will make players think you're equal to them in ability you just proved all those elitists right.

Gear can't hide your lack of ability champ no matter how equal it is to allagan. All square is doing by making allagan weapons higher in ilevel is making it official.

Also apparently casual means being socially crippled and unable to absorb any sort of constructive criticism and hardcore is spending 2 hours a week raiding with friendly people who help each other progress. In the amount of time it takes for a DPS to queue for AK and get it done a "hardcore" person has 1-4 down. Sounds to me like the guys who are really busy and have a job should consider the "hardcore" alternative.

Please don't make Allagan gear stronger. It looks awful.

if all you want to do is stand around and dressed up good looking gear then having some gear buffed a little stat wise for the hardcores wouldn't affect you now would it?

You might want to take that advise and read my post carefully. I never said that "AF2" would or would not be bought by some future tomestone (or even mythology tomestones), just that AF2 is a designation for some job specific armor yet to be released. I never said it was some unknown source, or any source for that matter. Just job-specific gear yet to be released. Nothing more, nothing less.

But the thing is that they don't just want that, they want that plus whatever the "hardcore" players can get. Then they will turn around and accuse people of telling them how they should enjoy the game, when they want to eliminate any reward in clearing challenging content.

They accuse people of being elitists for telling them how to play, then tell SE how to design every feature according to how they play without showing a hint of cogitative dissonance.

I just skimmed through some pages of the several threads on 2.1 so forgive me if this was already thought of...

Maybe you have to acquire the Myth AF still to upgrade to the new AF2. Maybe from item drops in new dungeon? Or item drops from Extreme Primals or possibly Crystal Tower.

Also that Bard they showed in Crystal Tower with that bow. It looked very similar to the Relic, but seems like it has Allagan graphic features. Maybe they may make it to where you must acquire the Allagan l95 weapon of that relic possibly. Then bring back to the same NPC that made your +1 Relic and make the +2, making getting Relics not a waste of time?

I mean Relics are like supposed to be the best weapon in some games and they may possibly still make it the strongest in the patch? I don't know. I just stating my suggestion is all if it has not been mentioned already.

Actually had me at first too when they scrolled in and showed the look. Then people on the twitch stream started asking the same questions and were quickly shut down by others saying that some of the devs have their own custom armors/weapons.

Considering ak speedruns were still in full swing till about a month after release it's really not hard to believe that an entire 8man group could be geared in enough darklight to give titan or even coil some serious attempts after just 2-3 weeks. Turns 1-4 if the group is skilled enough require nothing more than darklight and then relic weapon is honestly too strong for the first turn or 2 so it carries it's weight through the easy stuff.

Vastly underestimating what lengths some will go through to get into endgame, just because it took you or many other people a month plus to level doesn't mean everyone is going to go at that same rate.

If it takes 2 weeks to finish the end game content people will complain, if it takes 2 months people will complain. No matter what happens in2.1 a lot of complaining will happen, seems to be the ARR culture.

I want tokens for coil. A healer token, a tank token, a physical dps token and a magic DPS token. The way SE set up the gear drops favors melee dps. They can equip TWO sets of accessories and they have two separate sets that drop for them, whereas casters share a set. A single dragoon is as likely to have his gear drop as both of the healers and has no competition. It isn't RNG that is gearing the melee out, it is poor design. If you make allagan ilvl95 you will make melee too strong. Fix this and THEN make allagan ilvl95

The stories of only getting 1 healer drop in many months... is bad RNG... but it is compounded by the poor loot table design. That Turn 1 chest has been gearing out melee for no reason for months in addition to the split sets.... There are 3 physical DPS sets for 3 classes and 3 sets for Tanks (WAR/PAL), Healers (WHM/SCH) and Casters (BLM/SMN)... of course you are going to see uneven loot. Especially when the mechanics of most of the fights in coil almost require 2 tanks and 2 healers... that's half your group and they have to split gear between the two of them...

This must be fixed in future instances. A token based system would be a solid solution. At the very least Dragoon and Monk accessories should be shared. The person who designed this should be reassigned.

Whoever sees alagan being ilvl95 as a buff to hardcore over casual is looking at it wrong. It is a buff to melee and that is all. In combination with the other melee buffs anticipated in 2.1 it will make all other DPS obsolete.

Sorry, but raid gear should always be the better gear, period. Between Allagan and AF+1, my choice here was simply looks, which AF+1 won. Been passing gear in Turn 1-4 to help my fellow team mates who sometimes go DRG. While I decided to purchase the gear, I am still against the idea of being able to buy gear that is on the same level of the best gear in raids. There has to be a driving force in accomplishing content in this game, and simply buying your gear through low item level dungeons is the most boring and lackluster thing you can do. People throw the argument of choices, but this isn't a matter of choice, it is giving proper reward for accomplishing content. This is not a horizontal game, or at least I don't think so. There should be one gear set to rule them all during a period of time. While I put my foot in my mouth while wearing AF+1, that is how I feel about the current situation. I want to see the best gear on players who went through the hardships of the raid or extreme primal battle to obtain it. The work should match the reward. Spamming an easy dungeon numerous times a week for ilvl90 gear is not a good balance.

Allagan for DRG looks like something I'd get at level 34 or something; COMPLETELY unremarkable when compared to Wyrm for me. I have little to no desire to run Coil any time soon,other than to get the accs.

Exactly why you shouldn't care if it's buffed or not, you don't even care about doing the progression content for the challenge or enjoyment, you just want to dress your pixels?

Elitists get so much hate for "ruining the game". But at least they play it lol...

Well we got 2 sword and one scepter drops so far, I think the underlying problem here is twofold:

1. SE's item design is horribad, especially in the primary/secondary stat allcation department. For certain jobs like Scholar atm the min/max has to be a combination of Penta meld HQ vanya/Astral with minimal iLvL90 gears/drops. A blm with HQ food/full Astral Piety meld will able to do 7 Fire Is in a rotation, thus surpassing the DPS of Hero/Allagan accessories in a stationary longer fight. Most melees has adopted penta-meld Gryphonskin accessories to buff up accuracy Vit and other secondary stats.

Certain item (Healer feet/monk feet/drg belt) have identical iLvL90 stats... discouraging build variety quite severely. IMHO it should be iLvL90 > iLvL70, yet in practice that isn't the case.

2. Some Allagan weapons (whm sch smn) are so BiS that they blew Relic +1 away by miles. Yet to get Allagan weapons those aforementioned jobs has to +1 their relic like everyone else. At the same time certain jobs (blm drg mnk) has an allagan weapon that has terrible secondary stats, thus discouraging their enthusiasm in the Twintania fight.
