You seem to have disdain for the game you are currently playing(?) or at least talking in the forums of. Might I recommend you pick up a copy of... <insert name of any other MMO you may refer to.>

Damn ppl. "Give us Jumping now !" you re like kids ! ffs... I dont care about jump here and there, I hope they will keep jumping as lower priority so better things can come out first.
if you actually play the game then stop acting like you're a dev in disguise and defend everything of the game no matter how bad it is
If you're not creaming yourself in joy for something to be added doesn't mean you're defending things. Opposing opinions doesn't mean defense which people fail to realize.
Rather than try to troll someone, if you actually knew me you'd know I'm one of many people who want the game to change, but jumping isn't one thing I see will make this game better because it quite frankly won't, hence why I agree with Yoshida it's not an important introduction.
There's 100x more things that can make this game better, and jumping isn't one of them. A client side interface for one would kill damn well 50% of the game's problems.
....My Knees Dont Work....I Cant Seem To Get Off The Ground....Does Eorzea Have 100x's Gravity And If So Can I Call Vegeta For Help?
FFXI(V) Nerd: How ya feel the planet Eorzea have 100 times gravity, you can't jump!!
Vegeta: Let's see... , *kick to the face
I figured out how to post in this thread~! I just have to say key things.
I'm a developer. I don't like the things you like. I'm an authority on MMO's and most other games in general. This game should be like <all other games of it's kind within a broad spectrum of undefined genre>. And by all other games, I mean all within my personal experience or of my personal library. I will not declare these games, but instead I will just talk like I've played all games in the universe. When I compare these games I will speak of them as ones that matter and do not matter without stating any actual games to "legitimize" my opinion. Non factual argument of my personal beliefs about how this and that should work, therefore meaning that it should be done cause it WILL work. Inserting no sound logic on something that is a side tangent of current conversation. Winning. No understanding of Square's order of priorities for the development of this game (From both sides, doesn't apply to only me). Gaining "peon-support" from non influential posters due to moderately witty joke made as a retort due to lack of argumental data.
Edit: Oh yeah~ And I just want to say...That foot ball should use round balls. I mean like, circular balls. All the other sports use it? Why do they have to use that mirrored tear drop oval ball thing. This is 2011 sports and all. It should step up to being a next gen sport. It just won't make it as a sport if it doesn't provide all the things that the other sport's clientell demand of its entertainment.
Edit: Isn't like the only mmo Yoshi-P played was DAOC. Shouldn't you reference the good and bad of that game to anticipate his opinions on MMO's. This way you can guess at what he'd like to make of (14).
I'm a poster on the Final Fantasy XIV forums. Also, I'm a hypocrite. I love to complain about every MMO that doesn't take place in the Final Fantasy universe, especially World of Warcraft. For every suggestion I don't like, I'm going to reference World of Warcraft as to why it's a bad idea, even if World of Warcraft wasn't the originator of that feature. When I like ideas that are in World of Warcraft, I'm going to suggest them anyway, even though I just used World of Warcraft as to the reason why all ideas I don't like are bad. I don't care, I'm obviously smart, so you should listen to me, even though none of my arguments make any sense. Square-Enix, please listen to me, we don't need any ideas that I don't suggest, even if you are already working on them. Otherwise this game will burn in the fiery pits of hell along with every World of Warcraft player.
Oh, and then im going to type up this nonsensical post I just quoted.
All over fucking jump, good god.
I would like a jump feature so I agree with this topic..
try to be different did killed this game
SE trying to fix it
then these XI guys want to keep it die
I've been reading this thread while I was away for the weekend, from my laptop. I couldn't post because I didn't have my token, but I've got a question that I've been dying to ask throughout the weekend based on this thread:
How exactly does jump fix the game?
How do you guys even begin to justify that Jump should be high priority?
Does it bring content?
Does it fix the battle?
Does it fix the classes issue?
They didn't say they're not doing jumps, they said it's not high priority for obvious reason. I'm not exactly against jump but I just find it incredibly silly for people to be all so up in arms for it when there's much more important issues to fix.
Jump isn't going to make or break the game at all. It's just a luxury feature that other MMORPG have, not a necessity.
So again, answer this. Why should SE focus on Jump when there's much more important issues to be worked on first?
Here's the shocker AND kicker: If FFXIV DID have jump to begin with, people will still be bitching and complaining how much this game sucks because jumping will not fix the game.
I personally don't really care about what priority jumping is at, the point I am personally trying to make with my posts is it's almost hysterical how some people are so adamant against jumping, saying it's not needed and will "slow down development". After that, they proceed to say how amazing things would be like glowing weapons and a circus!
There are a large number of things we "don't need" but no single item is being targeted as heavily on the English forums as the jump feature. Jumping. FFS.
At this point, I would like jump. Why? Personally, I think the "advanced collision detection" looks a little ridiculous. It looks like you are taking an elevator up the side of the wall. "doop! going up!" You just slide right up and down it. If they added jump, they could add things later like cliffs that you need to jump across, floating platforms you need to hop across (as seen in previous FFs, only manual jumping), heck, I would prefer auto-jump once you reach a ledge or platform over leaving it as it is.
What does it add? Interesting animations and more flavor to character movement (we all know that a lot of animations are dull as is), opens options for the future of the game, interesting terrain mechanics.
Hey guys, they are planning on testing out how it would work, how do you know it would be something you would dislike when they haven't given any details?
Why don't people just wait and see how it turns out? Maybe they will implement it in a way that many people here can enjoy. What ever happened to "I don't care what the reviews say, I'm going to try this game out for myself to see how it goes"? Where is that logic at in this situation?
I agree with the OP: I hope the developers add the ability to jump in FFXIV.
I know people have been avoiding them? Why? Because they KNOW this is actually logical and correct, but refuse to admit it and stick to their argument: "GIMME JUMPS ASAP"
It's really ridiculous and actually hilarious if you think about it.
People think that it's just easy to add jump. It's not. The zones, every single one of them have to be redesigned to allow for jumping. Not only does this include collision detecting, etc, but redesigning maps to ensure that players can't get to area where they shouldn't be going to, IE: boundaries, etc.
This also having to redesign the city so that it would be compatible for jumping, assuming we have free form jumping. You are GOING to see players wanting to hang around on rooftops. They have to be designed for it. I don't mind jumping, but like I said, my main issue is how much work it is required have to add jumps.
Don't get me wrong, I like jumping for exploration, or finding high places to jump to for the fun of it. Hell, I enjoyed flying and swimming in Perfect World International and would just love to see it in FFXIV, but I don't think it's going to make or break the game. Again, Luxury feature, not a necessity.
While I like that you are now able to traverse small ledges, I agree that the current system doesn't look right. You move laterally at the same speed regardless of whether you are moving vertically or not. In essence, vertical movement doesn't exist. It's not accounted for at all. Your character just pops up and down instantaneously. I don't know if that's something they can fix or not, as current areas seem to have been designed to create the illusion of elevation change without there actually being any. However, I hope that in the future newly created areas give a better sense of vertical movement.
I game my reasoning, not sure if you saw or not. :)

However they are planning to implement jump, it can't be that complex, it looks like they will be examining it quite soon.
The only MMO I think that did Jumping right. was DDO.
It was a skill. If you had no skill in it you couldn't jump at all. Or very far, very high, or very often. People who sacrificed the skills for Jump could though, get into places others could not. IIRC they even had Dungeons where you had to have a designated Jumper who could scale specifically long jump distances.
I know I had my Sorc set up for it because I used Jump as a dump skill when I maxed all my other skills that I needed up. So I could get ontop of rooftops in the hubs and smile down at people. I even had GM's called on me because people thought I was hacking instead of being ingenuitive with my platformed jumping. The GM's would come see me on the roof then ask me how I got there. I'd jump down and show them the exact pathing I used. If it went out of bounds they'd tell me they would report it. But none of those paths ever got fixed I don't think. Of course this was all like Month 1.
That all being said. I can see horrible outcomes coming from jumping being in XIV. Simply because of the design of the game so far.
Man I wish my Monster Besitary or Goblin footprint posts got this kind of traction.
I'm personally in agreement with this really. The 'sliding' up and down the hill (Granted the sliding up the hill wouldn't be fixed easily) annoys me a bit, especially the falling. There's no falling at all you just, well, like you put it, you just plopped down. Not even a landing animation.Quote:

I have the same attitude as well, I'm just waiting, right now I don't really care about jump until they fixed the more urgent issues first.
And Evangela:
I would really really really love it if you even try to answer this question:
Why should SE put more priority in jumps ahead of the more important issues that need to be fixed first?
Why should SE put jump in higher priority than Content? Or market Wards? or Battle fixes?
Jumping is not necessary because I have played another game without jump and it worked.
Also other games have jump but the graphics are bad, so it probably wouldnt work in FFXIV because the graphics are so good.
Please stop implementing features
features make this game bad
the graphics are too good to have too many feautres
just look at Star Wars:TOR or TERA, they have features but it makes the games bad graphics
TRUTH. In every game I've seen that has it, people are springing all over the place like frogs. I feel embarrassed for them whenever I see it. I can't stand to look at it very long. It's even worse when it's in combat. Biggest immersion breaker ever. If FFXIV had free jumping I'd probably have to quit. I don't think I'd be able to role-play anymore.
Being sick at home all the time I need an escape and I like to think of XIV as a place not a game. People springing all over the place kind of kills that for me.
