I completely agree with everything you say about the search function of the wards being exactly what an auction house would do. I don't think they need to scrap it or rebuild it or anything. I'm just saying we don't need rooms full of storage npcs.

And the biggest flaw from a gameplay standpoint is the capacity. If people can't easily get the retainer on the wards many of them won't bother. Molly's comment about linking all of the wards is one way they can alleviate that problem(and from an ease of use standpoint it should be done regardless.)

But that still allows for a bunch of really pointless rooms packed to bursting with creepy lifeless mannequins who serve no purpose beyond convoluting the process required to buy and sell items from other players.

If someone wants to argue that they enjoy the experience of actually going to the wards and searching through the retainers, bully for them. Though unless they are just really weird... they are probably lying.

I see where you're coming from but I'm not sure why you're getting so worked up about back-end issues... Are you overseeing any of the server clusters? I don't think so. lol

Who cares what they do on the back-end as long as it's efficient, bug-free, and functional.

Alhanelem hit the nail on the head. We almost have an ideal system now, why start over? In my eyes there are three changes that are needed. By the way we are getting ALL OF THEM.

1. the wards in all cities need to be linked. - check
2. we need to be able to search specifically for HQ or NQ items. - check
3. we need to be able to search specifically for melded or non-melded items. - check

the only thing you guys are asking for is a board you can go to to search for and buy items. Guess what? we have that already, it's called the Mercantile House. Once they link the wards we'll have every feature that's been asked for in an AH.

If it were efficient, bug free and functional then I would completely agree.

From a a buying standpoint the system is great. I don't think that end needs any changing at all. (except for the linking of towns, and the improvements to search function.)

From a selling standpoint it's not what I would call efficient and it certainly isn't without it's issues.

Say what you will, I don't think anyone is going to be able to convince me that we need a bunch of instances full of retainers to maintain the market wards functionality.

Well if the wards are linked and I can just call my retainer at a bell, load him up on goods and send him to a ward or whatever I will be happy.

If you read my post or played the game you'd understand that despite the fact that the FFXI bazaar works that way, it still has the "store stuff in it for 999999999 gil" problem. Yes, they do get used more for their intended purpose, but this problem can not be eliminated.

I'd like to add one thing to that list:
Be able to call retainer or otherwise list items from the same interface used to access the search menu, such that we can put items up for sale more quickly.

I haven't used the new Market Wards from 2.0 so I can't exactly say whether or not they're efficient/functional... I don't see how you can though.

The wards are changing in 2.0. Wait till Beta (since they won't be in Alpha) then come back and tell us the issues you see with the system.

Bazaars were great back when the market wards were damn near unusable, but now that they're fixed~ish there's not much point in keeping them around.

Conceptually i get it; I assume they felt that it would bring the community together. Unfortunately i found it to be a absolute mess. What I would like them to do is just take a few ques from GW2 and implement a similar AH.

I would like them to take as little as possible from <insert game here> and come up with their own ideas. Feel free to play <insert game here> if you like what <insert game here> did better.

My guess is to keep players from staying logged in for 24 hours a day trying to sell stuff off of their character and reduce server traffic and reduce lag. Not a terrible idea, a minor inconvenience though.
