the normal content is too easy

I don't know that early quitters are due to normal content being too easy. I was ready to tap out multiple times during ARR because the entire experience is boring AF and probably the single worst MMO leveling experience I've ever had as a 16 year MMO veteran, which had nothing to do with the dungeons and everything to do with the MSQ being tedious, jobs being bare bones, and the "gameplay" amounting to teleporting around clicking through endless dialog with hardly any combat between besides the occasional dungeon/trial.

I think it's a combination of dull gameplay and lack of challenge.

Personally, I feel they need to restructure the low level experience so that you unlock a skill at every job quest while also unlocking 1 skill at x3/x8 level intervals so that by the time you hit 50, you'll have 21 skills minimum. Job Gauges should be introduced at level 30 with the corresponding skills associated with those gauges also being included (if applicable).

Just as an example, let's look at MNK.

Level 1, has Bootshine
Level 3, we get True Strike
Level 5, we get Snap Punch
Level 8, we get introduced to Role Actions and are given Second Wind
Level 10, we get Twin Snakes to start learning to maintain our buff
Level 13, we get Fist of Earth as a low level version of Riddle of Earth
Level 15, we get Arm of the Destroyer to start to learn to AoE as soon as our 1st dungeon.

And so on and so forth. This means that every class will have 1 AoE skill by their 1st dungeons while also being given lower level versions of our complete toolkit earlier so that we aren't totally bored during level synch and it gives players a more realistic depiction of how the game plays at a much earlier level and keeps them engaged.

Make all duty roulettes apply min ilvl would probably be the easiest solution. Running through dungeons which pose no challenge is a sleepfest, I've lost count of how many times I've dozed off mid-dungeon then awake and find myself running into the wall.

Not to call you out, but I read your thread and even gave advice. A lot of your issues were from ping, and laziness of not learning a proper keybind system. There is a difference between being casual, being lazy, and being bad. The first thing I usually do for any game is figure out the controls, and rebind them to what I prefer which I assume is fairly common for most people that play video games.

There are ways for the game to play easier for you while increasing the difficulty. And that would simply be to give us an option to make combos a single button press vs 2 or 3 different button sequences. I know every one hates add ons, but dalamud apparently does have that feature and may assist you.

Sadly that is how it was on release as well. But the extreme version was some actual good content.

Consistent does not always mean good. FFXIV has a quantity over quality issue in many cases. And a lack of longevity in all cases.

I've frequently asked myself if I would have stuck around if I started today instead of nearly seven years ago. Sad to say, I can't with any certainty I would have. On the one hand, I typically love story driven games and JRPGs as a whole was my go to genre for years. I've beaten games like Lunar:SSSC, Suikoden, Xenogears, Legend of Dragoon and Final Fantasy 7 onward more times than I care to count. The problem is all of them have a sense of progression and challenge, albeit that can vary depending how you approach them. None of them demand 50 hours of my time before they pick up.

Early game FFXIV simply lacks that in almost every facet. ARR is decent in terms of storytelling but it bogged down hard with incredibly dull quests and gameplay that only begins improving once you're approaching 60-70. Even then, stuff dies so comically fast in ARR and HW nowadays that it's hard to call it engaging.

Believe of all the things said by the friends the number one complaint was quest design and padding. That one quest mister Bolder foists onto you involving the scientist you must follow drove my uncle fricken bonkers! He hath just made it to Heavensward after "tanking" Steps of Faith which he called and am quoting; "Kinda dumb." Cannot repeat here what was said about the following quests without receiving ban.

I did, the doctor told me to stop wasting his time and kicked me out after I told him I am The Warrior of Light and have the tendency of running into impassable object.

In all seriousness, though, I fell asleep while the W key was still being pressed, sometime spamming the AOE even after all the mobs are dead. My party probably thought I was botting lol.

I thought you described Endwalker at first. 2h before hitting your first mob in the expansion, very rarely you need to kill a very weak enemy, tell you "several cutscene will play in succession" when you already have been doing that for over an hour. The game is basically a visual novel at that point.

Might explain why the census shows twelve million characters but somewhere umm abouts 400 thousand end game. Sadness inducing too because they can do so much of the better. Summoner boss battle quests, Sage first and final quest, first Gunbreaker quest enter the mind. Love the game but am not to fond of quest design myself either.

Josh Strife made very very good video covering what he called "I quit moments" and wish we could see graph of when this happens in FF14 land. Can imagine there would be sharp downward plummet around post ARR then again during Rhalgr's Reach early Stormblood grind.
