Us! Time for a heroic sacrifice :3
Even in the second coming of a literal apocalypse? If anything, I think it'd be forced drama if nobody of note perished - especially when we're set to start a new story arc as of 6.1.
Furthermore, if only minor characters keep being killed off then that just makes it more difficult for new faces to get involved in the story. Let's not forget that other than Ryne, none of the characters that accompanied us throughout Norvrandt were native to the place. Let's assume 7.0 takes us to explore the rest of Hingashi. Imagine how boring it'd be if we're stuck travelling with the exact same set of characters once again?
It's been over a decade now where we've travelled with the Scions. It's time for something new and fresh, I think. Killing a couple of them and having most of the rest quietly retire would help make room in what has become a very bloated cast.
If it serves the story in a meaningful way then I'll be "fine" with almost any character death. I'm not into the idea of killing off characters just because I dislike them.
There isn't really anyone that I 'want' to die specifically. But if they really want to sell this as the End Times and Zenos and Fandaniel as real credible threats, They should do 'something' that really hits the WOL where it counts. This doesn't have to be a character death, but it should be something more than sending a character to the infirmary for a bit. Or a supposedly devastating attack on a base that the good guys...don't even have to retreat from afterwards.
I'd prefer not to fridge Alisae just for the sake of Alph's development. If a scion dies it should be as the culmination of their own arc, not to feed the development of a different character.
I don't particularly like that term, since I think that it negates the fact that people can and do lose loved ones and develop as individuals as a consequence of that happening. One can safely assume the same thing would be true of fictional characters, too.
Not all character death is fridging. I'm not against any of the Scions dying. I'm against the idea of killing an established character off solely for the sake of motivating another. Especially since Alph isn't exactly lacking in development anyway. The post I was replying to just doesn't like Alisae and wants her gone and suggesting having her killed not as a fitting end to her own story, but just to shovel yet more onto Alpoh.
I don't think they need to die for that to happen. If anything I'd rather see them get more creative with it. Somebody having to say in some other realm or state to prevent x or y, or somebody going off to pursue a different path, or something. Idk. If anyone does die I'd want it to be something that serves a narrative purpose other than just getting characters out of the way.
I won't be surprised if any of the main Scions do die. I just also won't be happy about it.
Dieing for the sake of dieing is rather stupid. But I hope Zeno's dies and melts to nothing.
A major character dying does serves a narrative purpose, though.
If a plague spreads across Eorzea next week and Y'shtola catches it and dies, then it not only shows that the plague is a threat but establishes a sense of danger and urgency that doesn't come with, say, temporarily promoting Riol into a position of prominence only to have him be the one to perish.
If fireballs are falling from the sky and one of them strikes G'raha head on and leaves him as nothing more than a mass of charred bones and burnt flesh then it hits differently to just having a group of random, generic NPC's die in the background.
Many JRPG's - including other Final Fantasy games - have not avoided having major character deaths that advanced the story in a way that made sense. I can't help but think that some people dismiss the idea of any death whatsoever as a way to shield their favourite characters from any and all consequences.
I agree if it furthers the story, but mostly people here are saying they want major characters to die because they don't like them so I added my death wish that it be Zeno's the fatas$.i do agree if the death of a major character wether it be villain or good guy if it has a major impact on the telling of the story then that is what it is. To me the story is more important and how we move on from the end of this arc in it. If we get plunged into another plot right away will it be too much? Or will we get a time period of rebuilding and rebirth to have our characters live a normal life for a short period before the next arc in the story begins? It will be interesting how that is handled.
