Why 2.0 maps will be instantly opened now?

Who in discussion still has 2.0 areas unexplored? If you have already explored the original areas, then it does not apply to you.

This is just---strange and rather stupid. Like others I agree, exploring the maps and uncovering them was a fun aspect of the game; I'm not exactly understanding the thought process / reasoning behind this 'adjustment'. SE, are you ok? D:

Bit of an odd change. The comments about them streamlining gameplay with an eye toward the next expansion seems like a possible reason for doing this. Still doesn't make much sense though. It's not like it's any challenge to map the old zones. It's a 'five minute and done' task per zone.

Actually it does. We can still make new characters to re-explore everything.

The folly in this logic is that the reason we have done it already is because of how simple it was. We, at one point or another, in the 2.X MSQ visit every area in the 2.X maps. So by doing the MSQ alone we end up unlocking it.

Thus why this is such an Odd decision. And one I think there's more too than just "Quality of Life".

All the new players that came recently or will come in the future? Fact is this change is butchering their experience (even if they may not know it or care).

You mean to tell me that you all used maps while exploring Eorzea the first time through? Weird.

I ran around and looked at things.

Coerthas West is the best area for that -- lots of things to look at, lots of places to fall down go boom, lots of extremely misleading information if you tried to follow a Map in the first place.

This change rates a "meh" ... as does any mention of "the good old days" (usually prefaced by "I've been playing a Final Fantasy MMO for 10 years").

As it is, I don't remember any area I needed to go where the map suddenly didn't provide me with a direction despite the lack of details.

Exploration doesn't matter to a majority of players anyway.
They'd rather be AFK in Idyllshire only needing to move their butts when it's time to go visit Alexander for raiding there's people in this thread complaining now that it's too much of a hassle to fly your chocobo to a undiscovered area when it literally takes 2 minutes.

Wow are they also going to let them get the Aether currents to? lol
