Parsing dummy with mirage so that we can smack whatever we want ;)
As someone who not-so-regularly practices on training dummies just to get used to/improve skills (Side Note: THIS is why Minuet quickly became a minor issue to me), I highly welcome the opportunity to not only see what I'm doing DPS-wise, but how well I might be doing it. I'm not concerned with other people's parses. No, really. I only care about if I'M doing my best, and if not, how I can do better. And as I see it, if I can get the job done NOT knowing how well I'm performing, imagine what I could do if I did know?
That devs would have to hold back a useful tool for the community out of concerns of misuse and player maturity should really be a moment where people check themselves. Are you part of the solution (that is, taking the time to use it and improve from it, or help others), or part of the problem (refusing to use it, using it to boost your own ego or down others, demonizing the use of the information you can gain from it)?
Are people really making the issue that "their DPS isn't good enough" and I'm afraid the game will get too toxic
I think what people REALLY need to understand is that, you're not going to get bitched out for doing decent DPS, no one is asking you to parse at 1300, and the top min max possible. There are literally many people in this game who hit VERY low, the average acceptable DPS for 3.0 assuming you're properly geared, Is about 750 - 1200.
Give or take another 50 - 100 on bursts, certain fights, etc.
If you have someone who is parsing at 500 or below, Which is what you should have been hitting at the end of 2.55. That's an issue, we're level 60 now with new skill and gear that is alot more powerful.
When you have someone in T9 w/ 20% echo hit only 100 or someone in Ravana Ex only hit 400. That's a huge issue, because if they don't care about how they play, they shouldn't even be allowed near these fights wasting 7 other people's time. That's simply unfair.
I think you are confusing parsers with addons in general. A parser just shows your damage output. If SE put in an official in-game parser, they could limit whatever information it shows. However, imo, information shouldn't be limited. Beyond that, parsers don't automate skills and the only way they help you time things is by showing how your numbers change as you change your timing/rotation.
We already have timers..
Expecting everyone to download third party programs just to be on-par with other players? Do you not see an issue with that?
Yes, it shows you exactly how much damage you can do and how to macro and push your skills to their limits. It lets you also see incoming and outgoing damage done to you and how much you have healed. It helps you do a lot of things, it shows you when you got hit by that big bosses aoe and how long in the fight it took.
