Why further enhancements to market wards?

sorry but that is a bit wrong, most of the complains about not having an auction house was because at the time, MW did not have a search feature at all, now that it has been tweaked and adjusted, a lot of the "no AH" complains are gone.

I quit myself untill the MW search was added, and I will be playing again full time when 1.19 comes out

You are correct. The MW system is heads above and beyond better with the tweaks that they have done. However, no matter what else they do to them, they can never, and will never be as simple as just walking up to a window and buying and selling to your hearts content without having to move an inch. There will no longer be a need to fuss with retainers and what not.

The thing is, market wards have zero advantages over an AH. They do nothing of value that an AH does not do better. Nothing.
They don't list a price history. They require you to run around to buy or sell anything. They essentially tax random items because it's quite unlikely everything you want to sell will be in the same category. They force you to sit through a loading screen and wait for a bunch of NPCs to load for each item you want to buy. They are enough of a bother to use that they are detrimental to the economy, the availability of equipment, and the enjoyment of the game.

They are inferior in every possible way.

that is the thing, the devs want to retainers to be a big focus, again it is some people just saying "I dont like it so it should be tossed out" crap.

The point i was trying to make, is that, those of us who have continued to play this game since it came out are, for lack of better words, fan boys/girls, which I have no problem with saying that I am. As a fan boy, my opinion is biased in favor of FFXIV. I love the company, and for many of us, it can do no wrong. That is why you have so many people on many threads that I have read in the past defending SE and its desicions and what not. I made this thread trying to put myself out of it and try to have in mind, those that are not used to the system and what would help them be instantly comfortable if they started playing this game.

There's more to it than finding items.
It's way more of a chore than it needs to be to sell anything(which can be said of buying things as well) and the only information you have to go on when pricing items is the price of items that are currently up for sale, assuming there are any.
In other words, items are being priced based on the price of what hasn't sold, rather than the price of what has.

It really is as bad as people make them sound. It's a wholly inconvenient and dysfunctional system and there's no reason why it should be kept in place of an AH.

1. Two is not better than being able to list every item in a different category without extra tax on any of them.
2. On what is likely a different race, possibly a different gender and clan, and most certainly not with the same character look or gear setup. Who's going to care how an item looks on a different race with different items instead of on their character?
3. The primary method of exchanging currency and items should not double as your storage, and using it as such inconveniences everyone else when they go to mark an item that six people have up and find they're all set to 999,999,999.

Even assuming those were anything close to advantageous, they wouldn't even begin to make up for the shortcomings of the system.

I love how you say "we" as if you are speaking for the community..
New players wont like the wards. They will have to warm up to it and let it seep in your veins like venom until you actually are content with the lame MW.

What I'm saying is that there's functional. And then there's a world-class market system. SE had a world-class market system when they made FFXI's AH. Everyone who's anyone in the MMO business copied it. But no one in their right mind would ever mimic FFXIV's Market Wards for their MMO.

I think it's pointless to waste time building on a bad system. They should be working on something that actually would be the envy of the MMO world, just like we know they're capable of.

My guess would be because a proper AH would take so much time to implement. And they can't leave the Market Wards in the state that it is.

I'm usually rather angry because I can't FIND +3 items (either 20 people trying to sell the NQ) and obviously no one's selling a +3 of that for an NQ price. People that don't use the advertisement of 'if it's a +2 item end your price in a 2'. Then there's people that try to 'trick' you by adding a '3' at the end of their prices. You run up to the retainer and HOPE it actually is a +3. Time wasted.

I'll be happy the day the MW properly advertises the quality of the product I'm looking for.

A price history would be nice too... but I'd rather be able to find/sell HQ items easily

Ok personally I had my problems with FFXI AH. I can't count how many times I gave up trying to buy something just because some jackass decided to ask for way more then the Price History was showing. It was stupid to have to blindly bid on something. Not to mention I remember quite a few times I would buy something, then check the Price History only to find I bought something from Unidhofhf. Alot of people on here are saying how great XI's AH was. Do you remember when RMT dominated it? I sure do. And I also recall reading on here how RMT aren't that bad. Not true, I see them EVERYWHERE lol. And I bet money if we went to XI's AH on here they would again dominate it. Even more so because they DO do crafting on here, considering crafting on here plays a bigger role then it was on XI.

I'm not trying to bash XI or start any fights, I loved XI when I played it. But I want to play XIV, and the MW is what we have on here. Honestly the biggest thing they could do to help it is to just link all 3 cities MW's. So everyone isn't all crammed into Uldah's. I mean yeah there are other little tweaks that need to be done too, but that will be a big help especially when ps3 comes out so there's more room for more retainers. All I'm trying to say is don't be so quick to glorify XI's AH, remember the negatives of it, and don't be so quick to throw this system out. It is possible to fix it without tossing it.

Oh, side note I hated standing at AH. If there were alot of people standing there I had to go to the wall and go into first-person just so I wouldn't lag >.< But on the plus side my character looked like she was very interested in the Bullitin Board lol.

I've been following this game since it was code named Rapture; I've been playing the game since closed beta. I haven't taken any breaks due to not liking things or thinking it is unplayable so stopping until a new patch is released. Am I a fangirl? Probably, I have always liked the games that SE has produced, even played FFXI for 6 years.

Is my opinion bias in favor of FFXIV? I always hope for the best from them, but if they don't get stuff fixed then I'm not going stick around. SE can DEFIANTLY do wrong, that is a fact that they have clearly proven. Am I going to defend SE and their decisions? Not all of them, no… I don't always agree with their decisions and just because I am a fan of them doesn't mean I'm going to think everything they do is candy and roses.

The one reason I stay with this game (other than the good group of friends I have made) is the fact that in the start it was trying to be something different. It wasn't trying to be like every other game. Who cares if a Market Ward isn’t “a system that ( according to industry standards ) noon wants" as you say.

For as many people that there are who want games to be clones of other games so it’s easy to understand and "comfortable" to play, there are just as many people who want and CRAVE something different because they are sick of being able to pick up a game and have full understanding on how to play it in 5 minutes because it's just like EVERY other game that exists. Where is the challenge in that?

I just don't necessarily agree with your logic and it sounds like you're assuming a lot, but that is my opinion.
