Granted i'm not on second coil but everything else i've been healing the heck out of with no problems, Eos on sic. I do place and heel etc. eeevery blue moon I'll control her a bit on obey but mostly I don't and I haven't been called a bad healer. If there is another sch in the group I might selene and control her to hopefully silence something but that's about it. I plan on trying it more with Eos for unavoidable aoe fights but other than that let her be FREEEE!
I wouldn't say it's entirely true to put it that way.
I can be a tank that doesn't use my cool downs. It's there but not necessary to use it. It's freedom! Would I gimp the party? yes. So would a SCH that doesn't control fairies.
If you can control even embrace to heal more frequently (if left alone fairies are a little slow), you can free up yourself to do other stuff such as putting up DOT.
I main scholar and i suggest to control Eos even if its to a low degree, if you want to be a more "Effective" scholar. Personally I have her abilities on hotbar and macro. Also Im not just talking about group settings even in solo missions it helps to take control. I use here to lure monsters out of the way if they are going to slow me down for a mission or make her gain hate by making her heal while I wait for a moment. I know lots of people say dont worry about using her in early dungeons and they are partly right but why wait for the harder battles to learn to control her when you can get the hang of it in the easier dungeons.
I use Obey on both fairies. I have read quite a few people saying to leave Selene on 'sic.' That just seems like a waste to me. She will cast Fey Light/Fey Glow off cooldown, but will often waste it. A good example is during turn 9 during the golem phases/meteor placing. When you are just standing there waiting for meteors to drop, it is a huge waste if Selene is like 'lol buff skill time!' when there is nothing to attack. You want to get used to controlling those abilities manually.
Well, that's not really the issue, because either glow/light will be up at all times anyway, given their durations and cooldown lengths... I understand your point, but it's not really ever an issue with Selene...
And this is coming from someone who has both fairies on Obey 100% of the time, but Selene being on Obey is not so much about the buffs (though, yes, I do shuffle through them manually), but about manual Embrace control and maximizing the fairy HPS via constant keybind spamming when it wouldn't otherwise Embrace. As far as Eos goes (which the topic was for), yes, you should always keep it on Obey or it will blow its important buffs on the pull and then on cooldown.
