Wow, that wasn't fun. I play with the computer plugged directly with an ethernet cable because wifi can have issues at the worst times, but the setup doesn't allow for a wired mouse (too many wires already), so wireless it is. So on first boss fight in level 50 roulette, it dies out of nowhere. I look like the stereoptyical spacey healer just standing, moving a bit, barely any heals or dps. After that fight I replaced battery, and that helped well enough to finish the run (didn't wipe on that boss either!), but the mouse still wasn't really working right. Then my pet got killed by a slasher mob, so I had to juggle the mouse fix with healing and recasting Eos. Swapped the wireless USB plug-in to a different port after the run, works fine now. Still a very fast run though, and another player got a swift first time completion. Nothing like a tech blowout to cripple a group event :p

Ohhhh... the computer is overheating. That's why all the issues. Even with a cooling board. Yikes. Time to check the fan.

(Cooling down now, but off to the shop tomorrow anyway just to be sure.)

Well, I am now someone else's Tale from Duty Finder. Got to the Aetherochemical Research Facility once I finally got back to main quest stuff from HW. Watched a vid guide cause I've seen lots of horror stories about ARF in this thread. All was well until the last boss, when I couldn't quite figure out/see the safetey void sphere right away, so rip. Then I was trying to heal me, heal the group, and take a tethered orb off of a teammate now and again at the end so they could dps and tank in peace. But I guess the game figured it could wait half a second on my last heal request (not actual server from usual lag all games get sometimes just that weird delay this game sometimes has) and hit an orb just below the health needed. Fortunately a limit break from a dps saved the day. Oh well, at least I have better insight for next time. Sorry to the group and thanks for not kicking or being mean.

Had a pretty cool run of Expert today. xD Qued as BRD and got Amdapor Hard. The tank immediately left before I even loaded in. I'm guessing because the DPS was me (BRD) and a MCH. Had SCH as a healer. The SCH didn't want to wait, so they went ahead and pulled, I followed. We went through the whole dungeon without a tank and had no wipe. It was pretty fun, we seemed to have pretty good DPS as everything died at a good pace. I actually ended tanking all 3 bosses as BRD. That was fun. xD I got both of their comms and I gave mine to the SCH. :)

Thanks to the amazing SCH, I didn't die. So Thank you both of you for the good run instead of abandoning it! :P

35 minute expert roulette on WHM with Drk, Brd and Blm party members all seemed to be reasonably geared but both dps combined did less damage then me which should never happen.

well at least the Bard played foe's requim.

No decent player is doing Alex NM anymore this late in the patch, I think x.x

As it always is, that led to everyone but the other newbies + Mentor healer and me leaving...
We made it through the next boss with a light party and then friends of the Mentor healer joined and we finished the final boss without any hassle.

It makes me so mad when Mentors behave like this...>.>

I did A8N last night with my boyfriend (we were both tanks). We were having some very significant DPS issues as all 4 DPS and one of the healers kept dying consistently. One of the BRDs wasn't using WM, DRG wasn't using Heavy Thrust or Blood of the Dragon, and the BLM refused to be Elsa about their Ley Lines. I stopped doing my enmity combo all together to help push DPS (spamming that beautiful Royal Authority and.. whatever the heck my DoT is called) as even with melee LB3 we only cleared as the enrage went off.

The healer who didn't die had a total meltdown of swearing and telling everyone they sucked. I felt bad for them 'cause I'm pretty sure they were refusing to healer LB3 'cause they knew we needed it just to clear before enrage.

I hope you reported him/her for abuse of Mentor privileges, and maybe for Harassment as well. I don't know if SQEX actually does it or not, but it is stated in the 3.2 patch notes that mentor privileges can be revoked in certain circumstances.

For us controller users we have to press select 3-4 times to bring the cursor to our status bar, press right X amount of times to point the cursor at the regen effect, then press confirm to remove it. Still doable but not nearly "1 click" anymore.

Just pointing this out so that people can be a little more mindful of people with alternate control setups.

This happens to me Everytime I get a random mentor. They either think they better than anyone else or just plain rude!

Both tanks died to tethered bombs. Healers reviving everyone like crazy and the boss has double buffs from absorbing 2 hearts.

Yeah, clicking off unwanted buffs is a pain on the controller. I had a particularly annoying regen-happy WHM once who completely refused to communicate on this and so I ended up pausing in the middle of the dungeon to write a short macro that would make it easier for me to turn off the statuses.

Personally, I do watch guides before I enter content for the first time (unless it's on patch day, duh xD). I hate bothering others with having to explain EVERYTHING to me, especially in more complicated fights. I just wanna cause the other players the least amount of trouble possible. But I don't expect that from everyone else as well. The whole point of the Mentor role is to help those who are new. Be it through explaining if they haven't seen a guide or through patience when they fail to do something perfectly on the first try (despite reading a guide btw; it's not like one is suddenly doing perfect in his first encounter just because he saw a guide first :rolleyes:).
So it bothers me when Mentors have this "I just want to have the crown to look like a champion, not any of the actual WORK involved"-mentality.

I agree with this to an extent, but if you walk into an EX fight without having consulted a guide at all, you're being nothing but a burden to the other players. You can't even argue "but story!" as EX fights are optional versions of the MSQ fights we've already seen.

This just really annoyed me. Red = Archer (possible BRD, not sure) & blue = Tank. Ran into last boss in Brayflox and intentionally locked the BLM out who was watching a cutscene. After being locked out numerous times myself on the MSQ I hate to let it happen to other people, so i'm afraid I did purposefully lock myself out. But seriously, it was an extra 10 seconds? If that? Just wait! >.<
Also, no idea what they meant by "gear", I was casting stoneskin on everyone then topping up protect, which I like to do before the last boss...

I haven't posted my own story on here in a while, but I do read what those post here from time to time. And to see how things are from how they were from 2.0 when I started, it's really sad to see some of these people's attitudes, especially some of these mentors (I know it's not all of them, just the bad apples).

Granted Castrum and Prae were always the place you would see stuff like this, but for me it was rare to see all this behavior in leveling dungeons. Maybe it was because I was a tank a large majority of my time with FFXIV, but how did it end up like this..

It's quite a shame. Don't give up hope you DFer's. There are good folks out there still xD

In today's expert roulette, I outdpsed an i225+ bard (with relic weapon and all that stuff) on my i209 white mage...

in both my level 60 roulette and expert roulette I got tanks that did not use a single cooldown, I was a WHM
I understand if you're well geared and blahblah that you can pull off using less cooldowns, but not using any? wtf D:
they didn't die or anything, it's just that I had to pull out a lot of heals just to keep them alive and it's really frustrating when they're in ilevel 230 gear
Funny thing was in ex roulette that the WAR started tanking in deliverance at one point, yet, NO COOLDOWNS.
If you're going to tank in dps stance, at least have the mind to use Bloodbath or Foresight or something D:
oh and this particular tank was 1.) a mentor and 2.) pointed mobs etc. towards party, so we either had to move to the other side or eat damage. Not big of a deal, just annoying

On the other hand, I had a very nice run in Shiva EX. 75% were new, first timer, the MT tank fortunately wasnt (OT was). So some explanations were taking place. Our group was just fanstastic. We met enrage timer, but we were surviving, we started over 3x and we beat Shiva with 2mn remaining on the timer. That group was fantastic. Deaths were positional death from people that are not totally familiar with a run and not anything else. People knew their staff listened, asked questions and we progressed. I have rarely had to use 2x healer LB (1x at 3 bars) and 1x at (2 bars) in same run but those two lb made the trick. My co- healer was amazing and the dps were fantastic, the BRD were giving mana when needed not even being asked, DPS was just good, moves were good and 3/4 had no knowledge

Sometimes I wonder if healers do not forget that we dont need to have the 3 bars up to save the day, using it to give back health to players will be (sometimes) a better choice then bringing back to life the dead ..as there will be NO weakness penalty and that is far far far better, from now on I will try to use that LB more visely. We beat Shiva not with LB but with will....that was just one of the best and most memorable fight I had in a very long time.

We were all standing there wondering how we made it. It was one pack of enraged players beating Shiva to her death just because none of us could believe that we would be failing at 2mn(wish I had taken a picture)

A while ago I was going through the MSQ to unlock the HW classes (late comer, eh) and I queued for Keeper of the Lake, only to be dumped into a group with 4 'sprouts'. Of course no one knew the tactics for the bosses, and we went about it learning the encounters on the fly. We died, screwed up a lot etc. but it was tons of fun going in as complete newbies and getting it done (eventually).

Doing The Vault to level my White Mage. Tank was wearing pre-50 Aetherial gear. even saw a level 15 belt, level 37 pants etc. Died instantly to the first pack of mobs. He/she had a class at 60 already, and we were pleading with him to change to other gear. I checked and English was selected as his only language. Gotta have been a troll. I mean I can't fathom anything else.
That isn't even the best part. The Bard in the party was saying he was unfortunate to get him in another abandoned run before this and he had the cheek to blame the healer for pre-casting Regen before a pull and blamed said healer for the deaths.

Hehehe nice to know there's a tank worse than me out there. Leveling WAR I was so scared to death of tanking the vault I leveled WAR solely on FATES and beast tribe quests. I did take PLD and DRK through the vault though and it wasn't so bad on them. lol

I have another one from today... WOD: Tank (our group was the main tank group) decided to... well I'm not really sure what he was thinking. Never standing still boss shooting attacks all over the place... Eye boss was total chaos kept shooting half the raid with the eye laser and the floor mechanic was... @.@ Half our group died and he pulled the 2nd trash area group with half our group locked out including the other healer. It wasn't a totally big deal and we got through it fine... then he killed an entire group with White Breath at a bad time on the 5 headed dragon, and Cerebus was a total mess too. At least the cloud was pretty hard to mess up =p

Did the 50 roulette with my irl friends yesterday, 2 of us were summoner and the other was healing on Scholar.

We ended up in Hullbreaker Isle, oh this should be fun as it has slightly gimmicky bosses. Anyway first set of mobs the warrior decides to pull from the bottom of the hill all the way to the top of the hill and a bit further on, my healer friend is like okay I can handle this if he keeps the aggro. However the tank clearly couldn't handle it, he didn't keep aggro on half of the mobs and our healer friend died from being overwhelmed.

So the three of us politely tell him off him for pulling way too much if he can't even keep aggro of them all.

So we asked him to pull a bit less so he responds with "Np, gonna go afk now. Good luck finding another tank, Not my fault the healer is butthurt."

So we had to wait 5 minutes to boot him which we did.

We decide to press on as two smn and sch, so we both summoned our titan-egi and the run went really smooth (we still had it searching for another tank but another never joined). The last boss took some trial and error with the final tentacle as it would not stay still long enough for it to be attacked, the AI was really derping out at the lack of a 4th person.

We reported him right away and within minutes the GM's resonded saying they were looking into his behaviour.

Kinda...was his fault :P I always laugh when a tank decides to sulk in lower level dungeons if there's a Summoner in the party he's not necessary at all.

Actually, I think the AI derps out if a pet has aggro on it. I did a run a little bit ago and it was aggroed on Eos and would just not cooperate for the longest time for someone else to get aggro.

aahhh I love runs like those! I've been wanting to queue in random extremes, but afraid of what I'll encounter with all the horror stories out there

Nothing feels better than beating enraged ex primals with new people, hell, even with people who know the fight very well!
Until now I've rarely used healer LB, but I have seen people save groups from wiping with it. Guess a lot of people don't understand healers can do a lot with an LB xD

Did leveling roulette when it reset(got Brayflox normal), healer bailed after first boss. We tried getting a healer via friends/FC by joining in progress but never was put into ours. So I as a SMN was asked "Try healing?". I gave the go ahead and we ended up trioing the dungeon as no healer joined. Let me tell you healing Aiatar was nerve wrecking with only Physick.

So its my first time tanking Stone Vigil, and I make sure to let the party know that.

Very quickly into the run we lose one of our DPS, well he gets insta replaced by a monk so no big deal.

Over the course of the run we wipe a few times, each time due to me pulling more then I expected, things wandering over, or things spawning and joining the fray. Our LB gets reset a few times cause spike lag into DC combo, but I keep getting back in. The bosses go fine, up till the last boss.

2nd flyby phase of the boss, throwing down all the ice sheats and strafing. The healer gets hit by a strafe, forced into ice sheats, and when trying to get out of the ice field gets hit by a 2nd strafe. Healer is fine, healer is healing through it.

The boss lands on top of us sending the healer back into the ice sheats and instantly does its ice breath before I can rotate it away from the healer. Healer goes down.

I try to tank for as long as possible and go down. I figure its a wipe so I release for the next attempt as does the healer.

Bard goes down, releases.

On the way back to the boss room I notice that the LB bar emptied and was recharging. I asked who used the LB and I was told the monk had it.

Me and the healer get to the lockout wall in time to see that the monk somehow managed to get the boss down to 1% HP. We were cheering him on watching as the sliver of the bar get to where there is no bar at all, and just before it was about to update to go to 0% the dragon gets the last hit it needs on the monk.

Less than a percent of health left, the monk almost did it.

So we had to do the boss over again, we did it better this time with better placement on the ice sheats so that no one had to take strafes and we took the boss down with no trouble this time.

Just had one of the worst Mentor Roulettes of my life.

Got Sastasha. We got the new player bonus and the MRD seemed uncertain about leading, so I assumed it was him. The THM kept running ahead and pulling extra things, usually leading to me needing to drop Cleric and help Eos out. It was only really a problem before the first boss with all the clams because the MRD, ACN, and myself would be attacking one thing and the THM was off by himself almost dying. Until, you know, I went over to heal him and I got aggro on literally everything. So I asked the THM nicely to stop pulling things.

The two of them are together, I guess, because after the first boss the two of them decided to pull everything in that area with all the side rooms. Usually 3+ groups at a time. At one point they left the ACN and myself with three things beating on us, so we stopped chasing the MRD and THM and decided to kill the mobs we had on us. Sure enough, the THM and MRD come running at us with another 9 enemies and low HP. So Eos, the ACN, and myself, are all spamming heals until the LB fills and the THM uses it.

And this goes on. For the rest of the dungeon. The tank pulls, THM pulls more, and the ACN, Eos, and I end up spamming heals, LB fills, THM uses it, rinse and repeat.

Both the THM and the MRD got the exploring achievement, but guessing by how well the THM knew the map and his troll-like name, I assume he was an alt. But I think the tank might have been legitimately new.

When the dungeon ends, I commend the ACN and thank him for being pleasant company and gtfo as fast as I can. One of the worst experiences I've ever had in a Mentor Roulette.

Today I got into a 1/3 Antitower as a MNK for my Ex roulette, and the first messages I see from the BLM and WHM was telling the PLD they need to flash more. Tank said sorry and moved on, but apparently they did not take the advice to heart as they flashed around 1-2 times per pull. They got angry at me pulling aggro on the second boss (even through target switches), as I ended up tanking it for the last 30%. I checked their gear and it wasn't that great, so I think to myself I'll dial back a bit.

Well the next pull, everything was beating on everyone, to which I just decide to go back to my AoE rotation. I tell the tank that they need to flash more over the next few pulls before the last boss, especially given they're with 2 DPS that can AoE very well, and a WHM that does make use of holy (hell, the WHM was pulling healing aggro when they weren't Holying, even with Saints popped). Their response was, "I don't like flashing a lot, it's too much mana." My face: (*_*). The rest of us were befuddled, and I told them that there's no reason you shouldn't flash, because what else are you even using mana for in and Ex dungeon. We get to the last boss, the BLM announced they will LB pull, and the tank locked themselves out on purpose, said they were leaving, and left. We died, but we facepalmed hard at the PLD.

Unfortunately I never got to see the end of the run, as I told the group I would requeue as a tank, but it filled before I made the change. In the end, I ended up running another Antitower with success.

I appreciate the sympathy. ^.^ DF is really hit or miss and I don't think that'll ever change. Just gotta grin and bear it!

I did have a really good run a couple days ago. I got Levi EX for my Mentor Roulette (one of the healers had left/been vote kicked as it was only 5min into the run) and both the tanks were greenies. I was kind of worried, since Levi is a pretty miserable fight. But one of out DPS was on point with hitting the converter, the tanks tanked flawlessly, 3 DPS died and the other healer, but I saced myself to get him up and the 4 of them managed to get the last 10%. No pony for them, though. Unfortunately. :c

Healers that don't care about their enmity seem to be getting progressively worse lately.

Usually it is manageable but had this one A8 run...most know what I mean; Brute Justice lands for the last phase and getting hate here can be annoying.

Boyfriend and I queue as double tank. Party is kinda....well lets just say one of the adds exploded but eh we worked passed that. So we tank with no issues until Brute Justice shows up. Just before he shows up the AST uses Collective Unconscious on everyone that is standing waiting.....well this sucks don't it?

So now all 8 members of the party have about a 1500-1600 HP per tick heal over time on them when Brute joins the fray. So I am sure you all know what happens here. AST and some other party members take Rocket Punch to the face and die. I wasn't MTing, but boyfriend used Provoke and flash and tried to build a halone combo to try to get hate but he couldn't get it.

So we wipe and I tell the healer not to use such a powerful heal when Brute is coming; one cast of a Medica II or Aspected Helios (in Diurnal) isn't fun but its manageable in most fights (usually). Collective Unconscious though is the strongest HoT in the game, besides Regen, but you hit all 8 members with it simultaneously; its insane enmity.

So this AST, instead of realizing they overhealed and Collective definitely was not needed at that point (it doesn't even really hit hard when Brute lands anyway), proceeds to start complaining that it is the tanks fault. Well, that's my boyfriend you are trying to blame and you're wrong so I stood up for him of course. I didn't even say anything rude just basically said don't use too much healing there, but here comes the defensive pass the blame to someone else game. Conversation went like this...

Me: please don't use such powerful healing when Brute lands, makes it so tank can't get hate.
AST: Tanks fault, you have provoke for a reason so use it.
Me: He did use it
BF: I did lol
Me: You don't realize the strength of Collective Unconscious. It's 1500-1600 HP tick on 8 people.
(Here he goes to assume we don't understand how Provoke works which made me laugh, but we tanked flawlessly until this and did tank swap on Perpetual so idk why he thinks we don't know how it works. Not to mention its not the problem.)
AST: Need to provoke THEN use a hate move right away after it, provoke by itself does jackshit.
Me: we know that already
Me: There is a large gap where you cannot attack anything before Brute lands; so there is nothing to attack to prepare a high enmity combo on.

He shutup after that and next time we got to that point he used Aspected Helios instead. Which is still overkill but we obtained hate just fine. I just find it so ridiculous he understands how Provoke works yet doesn't realize it was pretty much his fault because it doesn't matter if the tank provokes and flashes/unleashes/overpowers the next 1500-1600 HP tick on EIGHT people (that's a 12000-12800 heal in total every server tick which likely goes off at least twice while tank is fighting to gain hate with around 2.5 second GCD and server tick is every 3 seconds) will make the boss go immediately back to the healer because the tank trying to get hate is only a tiny bit ahead of him in enmity due to his massive over healing. My Collective on my AST can even crit for 2300 HP its crazy.

That isn't to say its completely impossible to get hate if that happens; but its still silly to blame the tank when you totally overhealed like a madman right when a boss spawns. Even if the tank barely scrapes it off you before you die it was unnecessary to make it 10 times more difficult for them to do their job just because you massively overhealed.

I assure you if I did this on my healer I would not try to blame the tank for my own unnecessary overhealing. I'd blame myself for doing something unneeded and making the tank's life a pain in the ass. I have had to apologize in the past for making this mistake, so I definitely own up to it and not try to pass the blame off on someone else.

So if you accidentally do this just own up to it and not try to blame the tank please. I don't even play tank often but I really feel sorry for them lately from what I've seen while playing DPS jobs...or co-healer while I watch the WHM I'm paired with get completely wrecked by Hummelfaust cause they swiftcasted Medica II, then casted Medica I, then used Assize all within 5 seconds right when Hummelfaust landed. Ugh, so unnecessary.

Got Vault this morning as my roulette. Im SCH, got a DRK, SMN, BLM. I protect and addlo tank. And the tank died on the first pull proceed to tell me im the worst healer. I look at his gear, everything is in STR and he has level 45 gear on him... Not even level 50. I asked him why, he said: "I dont usually tank, I just want fast que besides this is a facerolling dungeon" im like greeeeeat... Let just say we never finished the dungeon.

Yeah this is so annoying. And it's not even necessary really because no raid-wide damage goes out for a few seconds at least. I usually tank this but sometimes it makes me want to queue as a healer just so I can avoid this happening.

And if that knew how to use his skill
He would have used luminiferous Aether that cancel all enmity generation as long as it's activéso you can pump out lots of heal for limited aggro

Heal babies are fun... must they must know that sometime dpsing make you generate a lot less aggro !
So as heal let your tank take damage he like that and built his hate in peace... then heal him

Stone Vigil normal(level 41), im levelling my scholar. When we start i see a familiar face - blue carbuncle ! :D
We proceed ok, before first boss I ask if the player knew that he/she could progress to summoner or scholar. He could be new and not know i thought.
The player said " Oh yes Im a summoner already but I only get garuda at level 45" .. 0.0... i said "ok ^^" and went to kill boss.
Dungeon goes fine but when we get to last boss the player does change and puts Ifrit-egi on....

Im still new to ARC, scholar is my first but is there a reason to put carbuncle going ACN instead of ifrit being summoner? Or it really doesnt matter at early dungeons?
Anyway the dungeon was fine, nothing much to report, the player did do all mechanics well... i just found the situation "odd" and wondered if there was a reason behind this. :)
