Blood and mana do not have to go, but their relationship and nature has to change. Looking at the other tanks, it is good to have a single primary resource and then secondary resources that ebb and flow in a different rhythm or at smaller scale with the main resource. It is good that PLD's shield gauge is just there to handle few purely defensive abilities so you don't think about them when it comes to figuring out how to spend your mana for damage. Warrior has only their Angry Points, I guess you can kinda count Nascent Chaos as its own thing. Gunbreaker only deals in cartridges and it is very much fine. So when Dark Knight has both mana and blood as DPS spenders, something has to give. There is no real synergy between the two resource pools, you amass both of them, usually at the same time and just spend it away without much nuance. And Blood Weapon is stuck there fueling both resource pools very awkwardly too.
I don't know, it just feels lame when big job resources exist for like ... 2 abilities only. And they are not even interchangeable options, there is the sparse big thing you always use and smaller thing just to use so your resource points don't overflow.

If anything, they will talk about it (if we keep on posting on forums, WHICH PLEASE DO, KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE) on the live letter after release. Possibly the patch for savages we'll get some much needed changes (think warrior when they made Shake it Off an actual ability). Personally, hoping they add some healing to the toolkit that isn't Souleater or Abyssal drain. Dark Knights are the job that need sustain the most, and the fact that all of our peers get it and not us is.... Extremely bizarre and almost leads me to believe they largely overlooked the job.
Yeah, I'm not a DRK main, but, when I was leveling it in ShB, I liked the new idea with Flood/Edge. However, I hated the Blood gauge, and I didn't really like it that much in StB either. I think if they reintroduce the idea of Darkside but make it more like what it looks like Eukrasia will be, I think that could make DRK more interesting. Like, Darkside Souleater and get the Scourge DoT. Darkside Dark Mind for increased Parry. Darkside Abyssal Drain for more HP drain? It doesn't have to cost MP like it did originally. Let Flood/Edge be the MP users. Darkside failed because it wasn't a choice between more damage or more MP. It was damage or a damage loss.
Although, I wonder if we could get Dark Corridor back to have that upgrade to Shadowbringer? Also, personally, I think I'd rather have Dark Missionary and Abyssal Drain swap places. Dark Missionary is still a lot further away than it should be, but at least it wouldn't lv 72 like it is now.
Edit: I have an idea for a Living Dead buff. So, do y'all know what Macro Cosmos is going to be like for AST? What if the Living Dead buff was more like that? It compiles damage while active but doesn't drop you below 1 HP, then it heals you for half of the damage you took?
