I don't want to be rude but
Sound a lot like me XD and don't see the problem because there is nearly no healing requirement in bismark NM
You keep a medica II for the raid and regen on tank if they are cycling CD correctly you throw a tetra if it get too low
And that's all x3

Plus as healer
You stay in the center to reach both tank for healing and dps both mobs with assize

And most of the time
Full DPS to quicken phase

Hindsight is 20/20 on the Bismarck NM trial, considering it's level sync. For all we know they had to deal with two tanks that were gimp-geared and didn't know how to use cooldowns because we all seen that junk. Can be a pretty hefty amount of damage to deal with as tank if you don't use any cooldowns. While I always take the snakes in WAR Deliverance (because you know duty finder DPS can be) I just start to pop vengeance, raw, and thrill and hit as many buttons as I can until its dead. Enough to not cause a healer to croak.

Only one healer is needed... If you didn't start in Cleric stance, like a normal healer, he probably assumed you wanted to heal the fight so he could DPS.
You don't even have to heal the first set of birds do you? But the other guy is correct, you should be able to heal both from the center.

It's their duty to watch out to any struggles during the fight and help the other healer if needed, not just keep CS on and forget about their surroundings. A normal healer might start with CS on, but a smart one will wait the first seconds to measure the tanks skills and their co-healer capabilities, especially in DF content.

Right, I just read it like a NBD as no one died. While yeah, he probably should have said something, but if no one was dying I would have done it the same way.
Maybe I misunderstood, but the way I read it was just the normal way the fight goes =/

You always have to act accordingly to your cohealer abilities...
But i will always let him try at first because some healer are in panic when some lose one hp and some do not care until the person to 20%
So I will judge at the beginning

And if there is a death i will heal a bit more
But in NM fight
A single healer is enough

If you're dpsing as a healer, nobody better be dying or you're failing at your role. You shouldn't be waiting until someone needs a raise to turn off cleric stance and help the other healer. So 'no one was dying' is a terrible measure.

How else would you measure? They had extra DPS for the whole fight, no one died. Sounds optimal...
No one said he didn't take off cleric stance, it was even acknowledged he medica'd. I think you are reading too far into this and looking for the DPSing healer to be bad, when it sounds like he was playing fine and how the fight goes with experienced groups.

I am a total noob and manage to get myself killed and thus my party wiped around 3 times when we were doing Titan story mode. I'm not new to MMOs at all but for some reason I really have a tough time staying out of the fire in FFXIV.

The first time I got tunnel vision and completley ignored his big line telegraph that knocks you off the island thing you fight on.

The second time I ran into the red telegraph on the edge of the island because I thought it meant if we stayed there we would take no damage.

The thrid time I used a hi-ether and got caught in his big obvious line telegraph AGAIN.

You'll get the hang of it, healing at first, can be tough, but a blast when you can do it well and style whilst doing it, goodluck!

Agreed. There is always one of those tanks out there that gets disturbed by healer DPS because their HP gets too low for their comfort. Yet, there are skills like AST ED which work so much better when their HP is lower. Or maybe the White Mage is actually using Benediction as an offensive cooldown instead of sitting on it forever. The way it really should be used in low-ball content.

The better sentence would be: No one is dead, things are dead faster, what is there to complain about?

I just ran a dungeon with an FC tank. Or at least I tried to. I had been planning to leave when I hit 60 anyway since they have no organization, no recruiting standards and don't use voice chat. It's basically like playing with a PUG. This was the straw that broke the camel's back and made me leave immediately. The tank thought he could pull the whole dungeon. He waited until he was between 10% to 25% health with over a dozen mobs on him to stop running. He does that and wipes us several times with both me and one of the DPS commenting on his inability to adapt. He blames me with something like "It's a LoS issue. Keep up. I've done this with other healers." No, no you haven't. Even a massively overgeared healer cannot save a tank who dies in half the cast time of their heal as soon as the tank stops. Not to mention I was within LoS every time he stopped. I tried to respond, but he pulled again while I was typing and wiped the group yet again because he wasn't paying attention.

I left the group and tried to defend myself in FC chat. Several people defended him with various irrelevant stuff like "That's just how he tanks." Yeah I know he tanks horribly. That's what I'm saying. Thanks for contributing absolutely nothing to a conversation you're not part of. Anyway, I'm made out to be the bad guy and told to shut up. If they want to be bad and blame other people instead of learning they can do that without me so I left. The only reason I joined in the first place was to make people stop spamming me with invites until I found my real FC.

Amazing there were no healer horror stories since august 1st ! Parties are strong these days.

Not really a horror story, more like "OMG SOMEONE HELP" one. Day two of patch, 6 new people and my usual SCH co-healer/friend only DPSing A9. My MP was at 900-ish everytime Shroud went off CD. We did it, tho.

Maybe it's just me, but when I did Sophia NM for the first time with other first timers, obviously expecting wipes, the third demiurge getting completely and utterly ignored by the tanks. They didn't even try while I was getting smacked. Right after I helped a friend, the exact same thing happened!!! Everyone is just ignoring that Roegadyn, smh.
I get we're new but a tanks duty is to....tank. And if something is running rampant, the first thing I'd do is to get hate and not let it run amok.

I was in a dungeon with my old character. Well, I got caught up in a communication error and dropped. My whole party went on to fight the boss.
I got back on, and they were all dead and angry that I didn't heal them.
Excuse me. My connection dropped. I wasn't there.
You all ran off ahead and died. like ??? who's bright idea was this?

Anyway, I kept going through this. My connection lagged a bit, but otherwise it was alright. The tank kept pulling, the dps started running in circles (not using any spells/moves, and standing in the aoe.) And I had to dps AND heal. Long story short, I hated it. I just wanted my seals and exp... Horrible time lol..

I realize now. I was the babysitter.

Not really one specific story but something quite embarrassing I used to do in my early WHM days. Before I ever really paid attention to tanks and their abilities I use to spam Holy while DRKS had Blood Price up. I'm so sorry all you poor souls trying to get mp </3 I was so dumb back then :eek:

I tried to do Burden of the Son for the 4th time so I can get my ilvl 230 weapon. The first 3 times went without a hitch. The last time I got 2 squishy tanks who don't use cooldowns. They're dropping to about 10% health every few seconds. None of the other tanks I did this with took anywhere near that much damage. The tanks were dying constantly so the DPS was getting aggro. Then the tanks would complain that the DPS weren't doing mechanics while half of them were dead and the other half were running for their lives from aggro. I start a vote to abandon, which passes. Requeue and get almost exactly the same group with the same two tanks. First pull the paladin went down almost immediately so I purposely ran into my tethered orb and left. Came here to whine about it while I wait to be able to queue again.

It happens to everyone sometimes. I'm normally a good healer, but for some reason I'm embarrassingly bad at Ravana EX. I can never remember which order stuff happens in and it gets me killed way more than I should be.

Trying to do Soul of the Creator.

I'm out of mana from healing so much? "Healer you suck! Why aren't you healing?!"

I'm dead and the other healer isn't raising me? "I can't solo heal this! Why aren't you helping?!" Because you didn't raise me, genius.

I'm trying to juggle several things at once and didn't notice you telling me to LB in /p? Everything must be my fault and I'm "useless" even though I'm consistently the last person alive aside from the tanks.

Then they threaten to report me. For what rule? No clue. Apparently not being omniscient is reportable. Someone else suggested kicking me for dying to mechanics, despite the DPS getting hit by them way more than me. Why me? No idea. Herd mentality?

So I left and now I'm back here again while I wait on another 30 minute duty finder penalty. And people wonder why I'm a misanthrope? /facepalm

Usually I main Warrior, but decided I'd play some Scholar to 60 and had this run today.

Queued Lv 50 Roulette, got Pharos Sirius with a Paladin and his friends. First pull he took everything to the Zombies, popped no cooldowns, got debuffed with Defense down, I removed it while spamming heals, and he kept getting it two more times during the fight. We all ended up wiping, and he blamed it on failed Hallowed Ground..

So as we respawn, he charges to the mobs ahead with no buffs, while I'm toggling between keeping him topped off and rebuffing the party... then pulls it all again, though this time we make it through to the boss. At the boss, eh more or less ignores adds, we finish and he starts pulling while having 6x debuff on, pulls all adds up to the top of the stairwell, getting down into a few k health, so I work to top him off, and steal his aggro and get zerged before he can get it back.

After we respawn, I ask if he would remove me from the group... he refuses and resorts to bashing. I tell him to quit acting like a jack-a and letting himself and the group die. Obviously was a downward spiral from there..

It's been a while since I've posted here. This isn't a story where I was the healer but I felt bad for the healer and I also had to deal with it

So anyway I did leveling roulette last night as MCH and I got into Sohm (third day in the last four) and right away I wasn't looking forward to it, not only was I already a bit bored of it by this point but both the MNK and SCH were new to it (level 53, ilvl ~120). The WAR was a mentor, so I was hoping for a smooth run. Not the case.

The first pull took a very long time. As the tank pulled a lot. With just me AoEing and the SCH not even being able to throw down some damage (damage to tank was to much for them not to constantly be healing) we took a bit too clear them. I knew this was going to be a long one.

On the second pull the tank pulled to much and skipped one of the plants. We wiped. MNK asked them not to pull so much. They did again and the three of them went down. I ran back to the start with one monster in tow, we killed it and the MNK asked then if they'd listen this time. They did and we got through it slowly, but we made it.

The first boss went well, though it's been a while since I actually had to kill the adds. I did though, since it would be a lot for the team to handle otherwise.

The run to the next boss was long, very long, and a bit confusing. Instead of taking the groups as they came
The tank would pull them all the way to the dragon near them. No one died, thankfully, but the SCH was constantly low on MP and I had to use single target attacks because the tank never stopped moving so I had to conserve TP the best I could (thank God for quick reload and invigorate).

The second boys went fine. I didn't gave time to explain anything as the tank dove the boss before the SCH was even ready. I just covered the red targeted allies and marked the green slime. MNK and SCH were quick to adapt and the SCH did his best to keep us all up. I almost died once but that's what happens when you attach on a red targeted ally by yourself then get hit by a blue. The tank made no attempt to reduce damage taken by the reds.

Took a long time to get to the final boss. During the three dragons before it the tank only focused the Ergo and let the wounded run around.

I was able to explain the last boss quickly, and the MNK and SCH actually did really well. They both were Targeted all the times but did it will. Especially the MNK, she took next to no damage from the boss and it was her first time ever.

It went smoothly enough, the SCH ran out of mp but we did it and I got both Comms.

I felt really bad for the SCH, having to deal with a tank that didn't care. And with all of the aoes and massive pulls I was happy we were able to get through it though I know there were a few *heart attack* moments for the SCH.

I got a fun one for you. This must be like the ultimate horror story for me.

One lovely night, I got invited to a T9 clear/farm with my FC buddies and leader as my SCH. My cohealer was an AST not from our FC.

Okay, cool. SCH/AST, really good combo, right? We're gonna farm this easy, right?

Until the AST says in party chat that she only wants play AST for the new Nocturnal Sect buff. Oh boy. This was back when AST buff was still the hot thing.

I explained to the AST to stay in Diurnal Sect because Aspected Benefic in Nocturnal was going to compete with my Galvanize. I don't have a WHM to go into so she could play as to her heart's content, and I don't think having two ASTs would be better than the superior SCH/AST. Plus I didn't feel like learning how to main heal as my own AST at that time.

So we go in after bickering back and forth, wiping as normal as a clear party can get, y'know how T9 is with unsync (Just in case you haven't, it's still a finicky fight.), mostly with the meteor phase. It was fine. Or so I thought.

the AST goes into Nocturnal Sect, after I pleaded her not to. I reacted horribly and with pure frustration I typed with one line, "I will destroy you." Boy, she did not take it well. I didn't name call her, I didn't bully her. Just one line.

Of course, I wouldn't really do that. How can I? But still, wtf. I did get some flack from my buddies via Discord. Yeah, I have a temper. It could have been better. But what happened was insulting to me and I was not happy being denied of my healing kit. I have dealt with way too many ASTs in Nocturnal Sect with me being a SCH as their cohealer, even before the buff happened. I guess my patience with them wore off.

Her excuse? To help me DPS. Can anyone buy that? Anybody at all?

People were dying to mechanics, healing was amazing. People in the party confirmed this. There was nothing wrong with us doing our job. It was expected to wipe because someone was learning the fight for the first time. So, I understood that.

Anyway, the newbie finally got that "Ah-ha" moment and we successfully get it down. We were able to clear it 2-3 more times after, then we called it quits.

I am very quick to forgive and forget about the ordeal. I even accepted the friend request from the AST, hoping she'd understand.

I went afk for a few minutes to grab a drink to calm down and relax. I then come back to a chat full of tells from that AST, with each tell more worried and panicky than the last. Telling me I was rude, she didn't deserve that, why don't I talk to her, etc. Remember, I said one line. Then I get my name called in Discord about the very same thing. Great. I explained that I'm getting tells, too.

It was at this point where I had to wonder why was I getting this much attention. I'm a freaking nobody. I don't do anything spectacular to earn this.

I log off soon after, with the FC leader and her friend talking to the AST and explaining what had happened. I was advised not to talk to her at all, as this would only enable her behavior. Fine. I was tired from work anyway.

Next day, three moogle mails were waiting for me. It definitely was from that AST again with the same I was rude, why don't I talk to her, etc. Told my buddies about this and they advised me to blist her. Okay. Fine, I'm cool with that.

That would have ended there until one fateful day: The AST joined the FC. ... Yaaaaay.

I promised to everyone in Discord that I kept my mouth shut unless she rolls up in there and starts stuff. Not a peep directed at her in FC chat. I can't see her in chat anyway, what could possibly go wrong?

Oh, a lot went wrong.

One Eternal Bond ceremony and 2 fantasias later, I eventually talked to her at the behest of the FC leader. Did it get resolved? No? It was very one sided, as I wasn't interested in rekindling the 20-second long friendship. But I did explain why I did what I did, and I stated that I could have handled it better. So I left it at that, reblocked her, and went on my merry way with my new cat husband.

After a few weeks of trying to get my attention and failing, baiting me about the same incident that should have been gotten over a long time ago, she declared to the FC that she couldn't "tolerate" me anymore, tired of people saying she was actually in the wrong, and she's leaving. Meanwhile, my friends were just telling me all this via Discord.

The moral of the story: Healers, take heed to what your cohealers have to say. Have a bit more patience with your cohealer. And don't join in an FC with someone who has blocked you. It almost always end awkward.

That's a rather... nightmarish story for sure. Sounds like a triggered child.

Just going to say. If you said "I'm going to destroy you" to me I would have laughed. I don't see that kind of statement as a real serious one. The reaction you received is ridiculous.

See, you and I would have been great pals if we healed together. We probably wouldn't have too much a problem even if you were in Nocturnal Sect. I'd still be frustrated, but forgiving. :v

Just the other day I did A12N as SCH and got paired with an AST who asked me before the start, "You don't mind if I go Noct, do you?"

Of course my reply was "Please don't." Then he/she "forgot" to switch to Diurnal before the tank pulled.

In this case everyone lived happily ever after, but I was annoyed by the sheer stupidity. To be fair, this AST did not overwrite my shields, but on the other hand, why are you going Noct if not to use your shielding? The 10% potency buff is nice and all, but the regen effect on Diurnal Aspected heals is a great complement to a co-healer's mitigation.

I can't help but think that the reason people pull stuff like this is the same reason behind pets on sic and indiscriminate use of knockback abilities; their playstyle choices automatically trump what common sense would suggest to be best for the group.

But Cynfael. What you and VanillaWafer (great name btw) don't understand is that those AST are the main character of FFXIV! We're all just NPCs.

That's okay; AST is just making up for having been the healer we all forgot for the first part of 3.x, and some of the AST mains have become a little drunk with power :P

The 10% is to make the shields relevant. . . Just using that stance for the heal boost without the shields is not. . . .

I remember this ridiculous thread that started shortly after AST was introduced, trying to argue that there could be a good reason for an AST to use Noct with a SCH regardless of the conflict between Nocturnal Field and Galvanize effects.

It depresses me that, a year or so later, we still run into people in-game who don't get it. No, there is no such thing as a "Noct AST" or a "Diurnal AST"; if someone can't be bothered to learn and apply both sects correctly, that just makes them a dumb-AST.

Yeah, my alt is a SCH-only and I have gotten some of those "Noct-only" ASTs. I asked one in Raid Finder Sophia Ex to change to Diurnal before the pull and they flat out said no. Even overrode my Crit-Spread Adlo on the pull too, so of course we got the knock back. I decided I'm not even going to argue this point anymore.

Okay, you can do all the shielding/healing then, of course they struggled, didn't even use Synastry once either. I saw a few Disables, so they had some competency. Never mind they did zero damage, I raised them last over a DPS, cause I can solo heal just fine. I don't mind if you don't want to do damage, but if you don't want to play the job I really like correctly, then I'll just do the work myself.

I joined a nid pf as ast. checked the other healer, they were whm, so I went noct. when we actually go in, they've changed to sch and I didn't notice lol

all worked out tho, as could've been predicted, being a pf, they were terrible and died to first charge, and each one there after. being noct I could solo heal to clear even with them dead on the floor almost the entire time, as I gave up rezzing them after the third time

@technole and Cynfael - Most likely, you may never see these ASTs again. Which is all well and good. However, just imagine dealing with them on a daily basis, outside of combat, even though you have them blocked.

The entire time the AST was with the FC I'm in, she tried to get my attention. My friends kept poking me about it, jokingly saying on Discord, "Oh, your best friend said hi, Ren," Or "Ren, she keeps trying to talk to you," and etc. It doesn't really bother me, but it's a bit awkward to see her kissing up to me of all people. Once again, I don't do anything spectacular to deserve this treatment.

The fact that I promised not to utter a peep made the situation worse, because I really wanted to let her have it. But, I respect my FC too much to enable her behavior by flat out telling her she was taking this too far to get the wrong attention out of me.

I just hope my story serves as a cautionary tale of what not to do in any MMORPG. Nobody deserves that.

I don't pay $15/month to be wrapped up in drama or give people a hard time, so much that it affects their play time. I don't ask for much, just let me have my healing kit.
