That would have driven me to insanity, how on earth did you cope with that for the whole run? :o
Do you know Roger van der Weide's Dissidia Final Fantasy parody? This DRK reminds me a lot of his version of Kefka (this part to be more precise).
Mentor roulette : Odin.
I was the healer.
Just a general thing rather than calling out individual runs. I'm only just over six weeks into the game, but why do some tanks (even at high level) run off from start before getting Protect, or drop to 50-60% health within a few seconds of taking damage from 2-3 mobs, or sprint off around a corner and pull 20 mobs while the rest of us try to catch up?
I am playing WHM and SCH and I don't mind being in full heal mode if necessary for the whole run, and if I can I also don't mind getting in as much DPS as possible, but I am curious is there some reason why this kind of thing seems to happen every 6-8 runs? I mean, there are some *awesome* tanks I've run across in DF, and great DPS, etc. And yes, when I tried a few dungeons in leveling for Summoner there were some less than stellar healers, but I'm not sure why I drop or nearly drop these tanks even when chain healing them with everything I have. An occasional "woops" is one thing, but sometimes, it's like this the whole way.
(And yes, I have screw ups too and fail when I should have been able to save someone, so this isn't about how I'm saddled with players who aren't up to my standard, I'm just really baffled how this happens.)
...An entire party lied to me about two months ago then during a Cutter's Cry run then.
"Hey, you can help the Black Mage by singing Foe for them."
"Isn't it a level 45 skill?"
"Yeah, it's a level 45 skill."
God dammit, and I believed it ever since. Even though I sub-main Bard and never bothered to check for myself after the run.
ADSAGA-BLAH *hurls monitor out the window*
i'm guessing they're not using cooldowns in those first few seconds while they are positioning the mobs maybe? Just guessing.
There's nothing worse though than a tank that insists on attempting half the dungeon in like 2 pulls while not popping a single cooldown. Then we get the "heals plz" in chat >_>
I had a DRK today in Ex Roulette that did not use Grit. My Garuda was pulling mobs off him.
Did...did they take Merri's guide on how to DRK seriously?
Link for those who haven't seen it:

Yesterday I, on a baby CNJ alt, got a fresh out of the box DRK (their only other job was 55 WHM) with no hands, wearing super low level INT jewelry, who wanted to pull the entire dungeon. It was one of the most miserable Sastasha runs ever.
Leveling roulette: Stone Vigil NM.
Me on WHM, FC mates on DRK/BRD, and other DPS was a DRG.
Other DPS asks to use LB on trio of ice sprites.
I ask them "Why waste the LB on trash?" especially since we were close to the second boss.
Told "Because you aren't using Holy and we have no AOE."
BRD friend been using Quick Nock entire dungeon.
Oh, and Holy is a level 45 skill. Level synced down to 43.
Darn me and not using my Holy that I "haven't learned yet"! I'm such a scrub. :p
Please send help. I watched that and I died laughing.
The drk I had failed the hidden 5% dps increase from wearing black armor though-- their glamours were of the "chainmail bikini" kind, all dyed pure white. Does that mean they had a 5% damage decrease? Hmm...
I had a Paladin forget to put on his Sword Oath at the beginning of Ampador Keep HM, and proceeded to pull everything.
I think I nearly had a heart attack healing it.
Had an interesting trials roulette run. Got Mog HM and thought, "woo, nice and easy!" No new player msg came up and everyone looked ready to go. We kill 1st mog, no one put up marker, so I was a little worried, but hopeful that everyone just simply knew what they needed to do... As the other mogs pop up, I notice I'm the only one hitting the BLM... wut ._.
The rest of the group is killing other Mogs and the BLM almost pulls off a flare BEFORE the king comes ._. So now I'm a tad worried about this group... We get through killing the mogs and I do my usual manderville dance in the middle of all the mogs and call to take the mog tanks. Other tank acknowledges and says he'll pull king south. I pull tank mogs north. Then a very odd thing occurred.....
The entire team aside from the other tank came with me... They decided to kill the tank mogs first /(.-.)\
At this point, I'm just sitting there like, wut. WUT?!! WHY?!?!?! I start typing out "please go after other mogs before tank mogs"
I'm not kidding you, they killed one of the tank mogs before I could send. Then the other tank mog went down fairly quickly too... Jaw. Dropped. I'm sitting there like, uh, guess I'm a DPS now. I immediately head for the BLM mog (because, you know, the order...)
The group proceeds to kill every other mog. The last 2 killed were the WHM and BLM. I don't know what was happening, but it was one of the fastest runs of Mog HM I've ever been in ._.
I honestly don't know what to think anymore.
Nothing even close to awful but was in Dzemael trying to get the last exp needed to hit 50 on DRK which is the first tank that I'll be getting to that level and I notice the desire from a party member that they dont want to be here and a request to do a large room pull was made.
I state that I have not done a big pull or speed run before but I put the effort forward and it all goes fine and we tear through even though Im outside of my comfort zone.
All is well till we knock out the second boss and one of the DPS sits around in the boss area while we wait for a good bit. So after a while of waiting I decide to do a small pull of 2 monsters by the crystal as we wait since speed was highly focused on.
Im instantly criticized and told how tanks need to wait for people more by the two who were there.
While that is true, I was just trying to keep everyone happy by getting us out quicker and leaping out of what Im confident with for the first time.
The run gone perfectly fine after and had no other issues but its like I know they did not know how much I was outside my tanking comfort zone but I think people need to relax a bit when someone is just trying their best to get things to move along the best they can and not instantly criticize someone for one overstep.
50 roulette, I was on warrior, a friend of mine was on bard, we got a scholar and a summoner and ended up in Lost City. I never tanked that dungeon before, so I warned everyone and announced that I'll do small pulls. At the first pack, the scholar told me to pull everything and the bard pointed out that I just said why I won't do that. Then she said "brb gonna help my brother, will be back in 8 hours, I'm sooo sorry", went afk and never returned. We went on nonetheless without kicking her because we all had enough time to waste the scholar's, the summoner healed me until the scholar got kicked automatically for being afk, this was after the first boss. An AST joined and we cleared the rest of the dungeon with almost no problems except that I heavily derped at the last pack before the final boss.
But seriously, why do you even try to run a duty in DF if you're not ready to deal with certain playstyles? ;_;
You know that moment when you've been training and think you're ready for something harder? Well I had one of those moments just now. I'm normally a monk. I only do DPS in every mmo I've played. For some stupid ass reason I think to level up a healer. I choose the AST and get protect and CT from CNJ then I go and do dungeons in the story order. I watched a few guides and each dungeon was going ok... then I get to Brayflox's Longstop today and all of that shit went to hell. The tank and everyone was taking more damage then I was able to heal. It's not their fault I suck. It was a nightmare, I couldn't get into the game to keep them healed. The tank was pissed and insults were thrown, I didn't say anything but " you're correct" Cause I was failing hard. Things get a little bit better in the run until the last boss. Lots of wipes and stupid mistakes made by me. We finally clear it and now I feel like trying out the AST was the worst choice I could've ever made. I'm not mad at the crap that was thrown my way, I should've been better but I wasn't. So I think I'm just sticking to punching people in the face. I've never been yelled at for sucking at that.
Lame SCH, but seriously, no harm in doing a big pull even if you have not tanked it before. The worst that happens is you all die and immediately respawn with basically 0 penalty.
On that same note though, I imagine you would have been pretty upset if they had pulled for you - in which case you would not be dealing with their playstyle. I could be wrong on that, but most tanks find this frustrating.Quote:

It's perfectly understandable and reasonable to be frustrated by clashing playstyles - that's life.
Me and my two friends had a Bard like that in lost city earlier, he didn't say hi or anything and didn't speak for several minutes. Then randomly asks "Big pulls please." which is what my friend on his warrior was doing.
Everything goes fine and then we get to the first boss, the bard kept intentionally placing himself so that when Neuro Squama happened he'd be facing the tank forcing him to move and he kept doing this every time the ability was happening. Then as soon as the 1st boss died he legged it into the next room and started pulling everything for no particular reason, we ended up kicking him cause at this point he was trolling and not responding to us at all.
But... but... scareeeeeed D: (yes, I'm quite the cowardly type of tank, laugh if you so wish.)
Being frustrated is one thing, what you do about it is another one. This scholar could have stuck with the party and complained about me in FC chat or wherever, or could have eaten the penalty - that's at least what I would do if I heal and the tank doesn't pull at the pace I wish, or if I tank and people pull before me. Refusing to play with the party AND refusing to eat the penalty, and just going afk is just being a dick. But yeah, that's also life, it's just... blergh.
LOL fair enough. I am just starting up playing WoW again (after not playing for years) and I admit, being new to a game/role is intimidating. I have been just doing DPS and not heal/tank specs for that reason.
That said, if you tell everyone you are new and want to take it slow, and the healer says do a big pull - well you can always do a big pull and if you die just say, yeah I am sorry, I am too new to tanking here to do that. Then revert back to your desired pace. The healer is probably experienced healing there and knows that the incoming damage in the two new expert dungeons are laughably low (they are) and that (s)he would have no problems keeping you alive through it.
To give you more info on the PoV of a healer in the new dungeons, as a SCH, I literally can let Eos/Selene solo heal the entire thing. I have done exactly that in several runs and no one ever dipped below 50% HP. Eos/Selene does about 30% of my healing potential, and my healing potential is less than WHM/AST - which means a WHM/AST needs to focus healing for at most ~20% of the time. This changes a little bit when tanks do big pulls. In these scenarios, I do have to cast 3-4 adlo's and 1-2 lustrates (overall, for the entire run). That is likely why the SCH figured they may as well afk, as their pet literally can solo it (it's about the same difficulty as Haukke Manor normal)
Undoubtedly, as I said, lame SCH =PQuote:

So last night, about 3 am, me and a tank friend are doing my leveling roulette. Why is it always those 3 am runs that are just so... interesting? It was me (LNC), my friend (PLD), an awesome NIN, and a WHM. Toto Rak.
First sign of trouble: no protect at the start. Okay no big, maybe he doesn't have it. I check to see what kind of healer (I don't always pay attention to that), and sure enough WHM. He has it. And given the rest of his performance in there, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have cast it at all if it hadn't been obvious the group was not going to budge till we had it.
Next issue: As we go through trash, I start noticing I'm having to chase mobs down, they keep getting knocked away from me. Wait a minute. Is he using.. nah. But yes, Fluid Aura. Every. Single. Pull. None of us said anything, though there was much gritting of teeth and biting of tongues.
But wait, there's more! And worse even. This healer never once took off Cleric Stance. Despite being reminded of it very nicely several times. It. Never. Came. Off. And even worse than that? No Esuna. Not Once.
We get through it, get to the final boss, I check to make sure everyone knows the fight. More as a test of whether the WHM was paying attention to chat at all, or maybe didn't speak English. Nope, he answered. Clearly, he's one of those healers. You know, the I queued as healer, but I just wanna kill stuff. What do you mean do my job? I started this character off as WHM, and this just kills me, seeing players like this.
Anyway, this fight was pure chaos. And I was not without a derp moment or two, I was focusing so hard on killing adds, freeing people from flesh pods and trying to avoid the poison puddles, I don't think I hit the tail once. Once the tail is down, I notice everyone's health plummeting, and switch to the boss, dance around the poison and pop every cooldown I have (Raging Strikes, Internal Release, and Life Surge).
Now here's the funny part. A couple rotations later, boss goes down and I look up. Wait a minute, where did everyone go? I check the map. Sure enough, they're all running back from the start. Everyone died except me. The Lancer. LOL. The last one standing, with an almost full health bar. The run kinda sucked, but that awesome feeling of tanking as a non tank class with no one to back you up, and surviving it? Totally made up for it. I wait for everyone, we roll on loot, NIN and I comm each other, and off we go. Away from that sad, sad excuse for a healer.
This exact thing happened to me about two weeks ago, except I was a whm watching the disaster (and keeping the poor melee alive as they were thrown around like rag dolls). Is this some horrible new trend? I never thought I'd miss the days of light farming when perfect, 2 minute garuda runs were the norm.
I'm guilty of being mean today....
I queue up to Midas 5 as SCH with my friend PLD, group was 2 SMN 2, BLM, AST, WAR. All have about 210ish except the AST with full 230. Some of the DPS were new, I kinda expect people to know what to do, but if they say they don't I will help em out. So we pull, my friend gets both fausts, AST throws up a card on the group & I start going ham. AST proceeds to...do nothing. I leave cleric a few times to shield & heal MT up. First faust goes down with second at around half health, then hummelfausr indicator pops. Idk I kinda thought people knew that meant proximity bc it's used in other content, but they do not apparently. So two dps go down, I use intom & start succor, then the second faust explodes killing off tank & the other two dps. AST rezzes one dps, I get another with swiftcast, then start on raising the OT. I think, hey the AST can cover me & heal MT while I rez right? Nope. Ast does nothing. MT dies, Hummle proceeds to kill us all one by one.
I say to my friend, let's try again I believe in us lol. I am on PS4 so I can't parse, my friend however told me all the DPS were doing level 50 dps & if I could see it I'd cry. Anyway the damn near same thing happens, we wipe. This repeats again, then again, again, again & one more time. A few of the actual wipes were because I could not for the life of me keep the MT up alone, I spammed adlo+phsy & lustrate til I was out but my friend never made it past 3 stacks which ended with a 14K crit because this AST did NOTHING. We still had about a minute til vote abandon according to one of the dps, I finally break, my friend tells me not to say anything bc it wont matter, but at this point I did not care. I chose my words semi carefully bc I didn't want to be mean but I wanted to type it fast before we tried again so I said something like(not word for word but very close to what I said): "Healer please stop doing nothing & DPS you all need to work on your jobs(I inferred based on the fact all 4 of them couldn't kill both Fausts 5 times in a row, an ilvl200 dps check ), I don't think we can clear this with this group(this felt mean & I feel guilty)."
The dps says something like "yeah i wanna vote abandon so I can work on my job." I did not respond bc part of me thought he was patronizing me. My friend informs me they're vote kicking me (my first :<) which I expect will go through so I say "byeeeee" & two others said it back to me & 20 seconds later, I was kicked. Friend left right after & they had to abandon....I assume <.<
Anyway....I don't understand why kicking me would fix the problem. Especially considering I was the only healing some 90% of the time...I am not sure wth the AST was doing, they threw out a helios or two total & drew cards but that was it. Instead of using thought process, "we lost this dps check 5 times in a row, maybe they're right," they just kick me like that will solve all the problems because I said one thing. I MUST be harrassing them. What is up with this mentality?
[QUOTE=RLofOBFL;3709511]QUOTE]
Happens more then you know. If you dare say something you run the risk to be kicked, even if what you said makes perfect sense and was appropriate. Simply said, it shouldnt matter if you got kicked, the important thing is you SAID what you had to say and you can perfectly live with that is all that matters, in my opinion that is
Not a duty finder thing, but funny enough to mention yet probably doesn't deserve its own thread.
You all know the S-rank Bonnacon, right? Today in Sarg, it spawned right outside of Aleport. What was added there recently? The Mentor building.
So the person tanking it decides it'd be hilarious to go pull it inside the building during the last 50% of its HP. Cue hilarious chaos from all the ranged throwing everything through the doorway and all the melee wildly swinging away in that tiny crowded space. Everyone could hear the Prey sound effect but nobody could tell who had it. And the hysteria...
Reminds me of my first vault run where tank would blame healer for letting us wipe, when tank was an asshat anyway. And healer was vote kicked. So, I go guns blazing at this guy, replying sarcastically and even though I wasn't swearing or anything, all I said was "Don't blame healer for your mistake, play better by knowing what you did wrong" and eventually new healer joins, and I'm vote kicked. Odd encounter, but I found it funny as hell. He was so determined on blaming the healer too. People these days...

Titan hard mode. As usual. XD
Woke up early, decided to hop on and do some morning roulettes. First problem. I thought I had clicked trial roulette. To my surprise, i was in the aery. But I say oh well and proceed. It's me as tank (PLD), AST, NIN and a BRD. BRD is new to the map. I decide to pull the 1st two mobs together. Things were.... uh, slow. I nearly died and had to pop my hallowed ground. From that point, i decided to pull smaller. Things seem to be fine, then we get to 1st boss and I stop for a sec (seeing if the BRD was going to ask for explanation) and I watch as the NIN continues running forward. And he pulled. So, I pull the boss off him and we proceed to kill it. I decided to just let this one go. As we proceed to the next pull, I'm waiting (because the others are lagging behind us) and watch as the NIN pulls yet again. At this point, I decided to speak up and asked him not to pull unless he wanted to tank them. His response was just "huton ;-;"
Now, I have a NIN as well and I do understand, it's nice to keep huton up instead of reproc'ing it all the time. But on the aery... come on... you gotta know you're going to have to reproc on a few areas. You have to run around empty spaces half the time cause it's so frickin big. But apparently he wasn't having it. We hit the caves and I'm purposefully trying to skip the sleeping dragons. Apparently that was not wanted :P The NIN kept hitting the dragon and pulling him for me. Now, I'm fine if you want to get the xp from kills.... but the issue here was... I had already pulled 2 mobs and now I have this big dragon throwing AoE's down every 5 seconds.... was quite annoying and I had to pop HG again. We get through, I don't say anything yet again.
2nd boss goes down, not much issue, but during, the other DPS was killing the gas bomb. NIN yells at him not to touch it and the BRD simply asks why. No one responds, (i thought maybe the NIN would...) and so the BRD asks again. While he was typing, the boss threw a gas ball on him and he died. We kill boss and then I explain why we don't kill the adds right away. And low and behold, to my surprise, i look up and the NIN pulled the next mob.
I just type "nope". Then he types in "sorry, I didn't mean to" (yea right...) and then proceeds to run down the stairs to meet us with his new friends. I pull off and take and once again, ask him to stop pulling for me. As we continue, the BRD says "brb, parenting things". Perfectly fine, I can wait, but the group decides we'll just kill the next few mobs, shouldn't be an issue. We get to the 3 dragons (which can do some decent dmg off the bat). Judging by how some of the pulls went before, I decide it's best to wait until we have all 4 here. The NIN begins to get angry with me because I decided to wait and his huton fell off (and the BRD was on their way btw). I ignore him and pull when the BRD was close enough. Then we finally get to the last boss... guess who decided to pull when the other player was still at the bottom of the stairs and watching the cutscene? I'll give you 3 guesses.
The healer was standing inside of the purple, I decided to stand right outside of it and the NIN decided to pull Niddhog back to the gate. The BRD came out of the cutscene and was sprinting to get there in time (and I truly thought he wasn't going to make it). Literally, as it closes off, the BRD makes it and the NIN steps out.... *facepalm*.
I say sorry to the healer and BRD because I truly didn't think the BRD was going to make it in time. The other two say it's fine as niddhog proceeds to murder them while the NIN and I watch in horror. So while the other 2 are running back (which you know takes like, 10 minutes), he proceeds to tell me what a horrible tank I am and that I should "turn in my tanking card". Yeeeeaaaaaaahhh. I just tell him once again, not to pull for me, especially when they full party isn't even there for the boss fight.
We kill niddhog, no real issues and I just decide to say "good run everyone" even though I really wanted to just punch that NIN in the face. Then the NIN says "gj everyone" and I'm all like, oh yay, he's being nice. 2 seconds later, "except for fohl" =_=
prick.
Midas was a special place last night. So many unplanned tank swaps because except for A5 it never seemed like there were two healers in the party even though there were two green icons. -_-
So, for some reason, I'm healing terrible today, I need better gear, so run Aery, and at 1st boss, we wipe. So, I've never been tethered before, so I completely forgot, and I had tank and bard moaning at me. Wasn't in a mood to be civilised, and when bard was moaning at me about healing myself, I said I was. And I really was healing myself. We wipe and do it fine 2nd try. All is fine until Nidhogg, where everything goes to shit. Low mp, Estininen low health etc. But what confused me is that last night, I was able to do it fine with 0% condition (Can't believe I forgot to repair), first time too. Anyway, we try again, and when Nidhogg does his shit as adds spawn, one of the dps gets caught in a sable price, and I have to go over to heal 'em all as they needed it, at that time Estinien had just over 3/4 health, so I was like, that should be fine for a couple of secs, I was wrong. He was down to 1/4 not even 5 secs later.
I wasted 50-60% mp trying to heal him, but we ended up wiping. I say in chat "Sorry, I'm healing terrible today. You're better off with a better healer :c", and tank said it would take awhile (obviously). But, I left anyway, felt like crap.
Sorry to the party, really am, hope you didn't have to wait long!
"I'm a raid sch. I don't need protect cross-classed."
From a charming scholar I had yesterday in a8n. Being a "raid sch" also includes dpsing fulltime, not helping the ast mitigate/heal the tank taking perpetual ray, not helping the ast heal/mitigate anything at all actually, calling the tanks garbage for dying all the time, not helping with the regulators that keep exploding because the melee couldn't be bothered, and saying people must be trolling after each of our 5-6 wipes. We only got past Onslaughter once, to die at Brawler blowing up half the party with a buster. A vote abandon went through after that pull.
"It only reduces a tiny bit of physical damage."
I thought tuesdays were supposed to be good.
Interesting CT run yesterday.
I went WHM for all of them because I enjoy healing them. For LotA, and FC mate went as their paladin. We were alliance A. Well, one of the tanks from B (a WAR) spent the entire raid trying to take aggro from my FC mate, and for one fight (the last one I believe), they decided to pull with only 4 or 5 of the other alliance members actually at the boss room. The rest of us stood outside and watched them get squished. Same tank was in the rest of our CT and proceeded to sprint ahead of everyone to try and reach the boss first (guess they really wanted to MT). And the tank in our alliance for WoD spent 90% just autoattacking the boss. Because they wanted to watch Netflix instead. The BRD in our alliance also lb3'd Cloud of Darkness and it. was. so. great. I love BRD lb3 and use it every chance I get. :p Melee weren't happy but. Oh well.
Also, got St. Mocianne's for 60 roulette, and during my opener for the bee boss (I was on BRD), I crit so many times that I pulled aggro from the tank (DRK). Yeah that was a painful few seconds until they could take it back from me. :p but seeing my Sidewinder crit is always so satisfying. I don't think it was them...they were geared completely in lore gear (some melded, some not). I just think I got a little carried away on my BRD. :p
For 50 roulette, got Keeper of the Lake. FC mate left because he hates that dungeon, but I didn't want to have to requeue because it was late and I had to sleep soon (stupid early work shifts) so we had a very squishy BRD tank (ow it hurts) until the MCH rejoined on their tank. And the comm'd me for a job well done. :p
And for weekly VA, stole hate briefly on stingray boss (kinda scary seeing it come at me like that D: ), and maybe people were just being lazy, but I stayed 2nd or 3rd on the aggro list the entire time for our alliance. Beaten only by the BLM with my Foe's. There's no way I'm that good on my BRD (I mean, I don't think I suck, but I know I could improve my overall DPS), so others must have been either undergeared or just lazy. :p
