Very much this.
The people who are part of the resident group that consistently badmouth the game certainly took that to mean she was saying it was the worst expansion ever AND WAS BAD, not that it was "good, but not as good as some others".
So clearly the OP and the people posting from that perspective seem to have taken it that way. Why should people opposed to that position have taken it differently?
That's going to depend on what sort of gaming background the new player is coming from.
I'll chat with new players on occasion. Unless they're coming from a WoW or some sort of competitive game that is end game focused, they don't want to talk about end game. They want to talk what they've already experience and if there's something they might have missed that they should know about.[/QUOTE]
In fairness, she did rant a little bit, but not excessively so. Personally, I probably wouldn't have been able to contain myself even half as well as she did. She was definitely holding back just a little to keep it relatively civil. As someone who is also frustrated with the current state of the game, I completely understand.
This isn't even about being endgame focused. If you have played this game for 6+ years with any regularity you have most likely already exhausted the backlog of old content you actually want to do.
Sure, when you've just started you have a lot of content to do because duh, the game had 10 years of content updates.
But everyone eventually becomes an "endgame player" because they will have done everything else already.
When one of those new players then asks me what they have to look forward to when they've done the old content that interests them and I have to tell them "well, pretty much the same stuff you've already been doing, but just less of it." that's not exactly motivating.
I mean, right now it works. All of us unsatisfied veterans could quit tomorrow and we would just be replaced by sprouts who still have 10 years worth of content to do. But this will eventually reach a point of total saturation, a point where every potential new player has already tried the game, and what then?
Not to mention that the experience of playing old content becomes worse the older it gets due to all the job and system changes. I can't even bring myself to do synced content below 70 anymore because the gameplay experience is just lackluster. You just end up pressing your 5 buttons randomly because the new stuff gets tacked on close to level cap and your main job mechanic often doesn't even exist at lower levels anymore.
Something I don't seem to see anyone bring up is back in Heavensward, she was the same new player as the ones that are joining now. The reason why Heavensward isn't the worst for content was for her is she joined during Heavensward, not before.
Similarly, because there is no long-lasting content is Endwalker due to incredibly lack-luster rewards, nobody wants to do them. This is doubled by the relic grind being near non-existent.
She absolutely does not have to tone done her opinion because people refuse to see the bigger point she is making. It doesn't matter if she put it politely enough as if she was coddling a child, people would still find reasons to be upset toward her for one reason or another.
If this was Heavensward instead of Endwalker, y'all would probably be here complaining that there isn't anybody running current content. You will always see the massive backlog of content new players have before they catch up used as a crutch. No shit they're still here and enjoying the game, they're just now going through it.
Exactly. It's not just about endgame as in raiding but what is there for me to do in general as a player once I'm at max level? And I think it's rather myopic to think that players don't ask such questions ahead of time to see if the game is worth pouring their effort and sub money into. Not all do, obviously, but being the type of game it is, it's part of researching how the product shapes up by the point you get past the levelling experience.
If you ever want to find bullies and people with questionable attitudes, just say something negative about FF14. As evidenced by the 88 pages in this thread.
We aren’t catching up. It’s not a race.
This is so funny, people really proved zeplas point, that if anyone dares to complain anything about the game they are called idiots or simps or whatever, i'm laughing so hard when people who say are not part of the problem are literally being part of the problem in the very same comment lmao
How the GCBTW see it as a threat when she expresses her body language about the game:
