^ This describes probably about 25% of my Titan HMs when I get it for Trial DR. lol. Haven't had that kind of fun in Sephi HM yet though.
[EDIT] Speak of the devil, it just occured.. heh

I think every healer should watch this, because its 100% true :).
I posted a run on here like a year ago or so, in which I was blamed by everyone else for us wiping consistently in Qarn HM. I would spam Divine Seal > Cure II and the tank would still die. There was nothing more I could do and yet everyone blamed me. I was so frustrates, but didn't quit do to stubbornness and possibly supidity. You were smart to quit, you shouldn't have to put up with that.
And DarkmoonVael is right, every healer should watch that video! *cough*signature*cough*
I ran Sunken Temple of Quarn as a WHM and got this tank that was a lv 37 GLA. I was wondering why he didn't get PLA and so I checked out the search info. Turns out he was a lv50 GLA and no level in PLA :/ No tank stance in Quarn is a nightmare, but I was like,
"Hey, maybe he's a secret pro, I'll give this a chance."
Nope. The tank kept losing aggro, especially on those bees despite me marking them up. Apparently, the DPS were also bad and never killed the flippin' bees first so the bees went after me... And I'm pretty sure everyone knows happened next >_> Never thought I'd be so scared of bees in my life.
Paladin still doesn't have tank stance at Qarn anyway (it's level 40), that shouldn't been the issue. But if they were still GLD that means they don't have Sword Oath either, so they end up doing less damage. The auto-attack potency increase the oath gives does help in aggro, and well, destroying the bees. Basically the tank was just terrible if they are actually losing aggro to bad DPS. Was probably more on gear, and/not using Halone combo. But Sword Oath actually does help a bit.
Ohh sorry about that, I only know about DRK skills and not PLA xD Didn't know Tank Stance was lv40. But yeah, I expected the tank to at least know how to pick up better aggro since he was a lv50 but I guess not. I did give tips to the tank and DPS but they barely do what I say.
Do my roulette tonight and get paired with a WAR, SMN, DRG and im the SCH. The whole run, the DRG would keep pulling the mobs and would randomly open the chests when there is still trash mobs. They would also never move from AOEs and kept almost dying because he still had lvl 56-58 gear. I kept telling to please avoid them and all he said was: "im watching netflix with the wife, not paying attention just here for tomes"
And you didn't kill him ?
I would have revoke my fairy, watch him die, step on his body, spit on his face and wait with a smile.
And if he ever complaining about no heal
I would have answer :
"I'm watching you die with my Evil self, not paying attention just here for tomes"
3 choice then
He focus and it end fast and well
He doesn't and get kick
He become stupid and quit
People tend to forgot that the healer is king and got their life in their hand... ready to protect or crush it
He does sound like a jerk, but trust me, there are many ways to die to echidna. Refusal to dodge is one (those vuln stacks can hurt, or if marked person runs from group). Tanks also have several ways to make it hard. This week, somehow me on drg and friend on nin tanked snakes.. No clue wtf was up with tanks. I barely survived and friend died.
Running SCH on Midas floor four, I was doing my usual buffs, shields, throwing lustrate on tanks and indomitability on the party til I was out of stacks, I've burned through at least half my mp or more...and the AST sees me in CS after I've thrown another succor on the party and yells "I can't heal this by myself!"
...I was healing my ass off and dps is part of my rotation. It takes a few seconds to switch to CS and throw some dots on???
The party kept struggling, tank swaps weren't happening, dps were taking a ton of damage. Eventually it was a vote abandon.
In frustration I switched to WHM. (I consider SCH my primary healing job and have the 230 relic, but the 220 cane for WHM). I get a WHM as co healer. We both hop in and out of CS and the run is smooth as silk.
This is not the first time this has happened to me on SCH. -_-
Scholar is great because you're supposed to dps all the time AND heal. NOw, I have a lot of fun with it and people DO know most of my job comes from me shielding and making things easier for the cohealer but- hey, we don't have benediction or ED, they don't see hp going up and dow drastically, we're deginitely doing nothing.
Still, it's my favorite class to play, just ignore weird coheals or people complaining
Ha this sounds fun. So I am farming esos naturally dailies contributes greatly. Anyway I did a lvling roulette and I knew things where gonna go poorly when the gladiator (low lvl) didn't flash once. So being a nice person I said " flash once or twice in between rotations it'll help a ton to keep hate off me I naturally can't take as many hits as you" he wasn't listening but kept on going and offering the same advice. The 1-3rd bosses where horrible to heal would be to draw a target on my back didn't really bitch or anything we were getting though even though it was painful. On the last boss 2 wipes thr group at this point was yelling at the tank to do his job which wasn't dps. After we finished the run the tank says "lo seinto no habas englas"
Well the horror story is of the healer i got when tanking ex roulette.
Zoned in to the Antitower to get a whm who's first line was "PLD tank so no healing".......sigh. First three pulls with good cooldowns my health dipped to sub 20% all the time, needing to clemency. No regen's used at all. No healing done, some dps (by some i mean the occcasional aero 3 and holy, but by no stretch of imagination the style of dps you would expect from a whm who claims to enjoy dpsing on it). After first boss they start using assylum during pulls, but in the most obnoxious way ever. I have as my dps a machinist and a ninja. Machinist is using bishop turret and ninja is using doton in big pulls. Both these ground aoes places as near on top of each other as possible. Assylum goes.......for a walk i suppose. Always placed away from these two ground aoes, even though i am tanking mobs right on top of them. I get a snarky "getting in the bubble helps" from the whm, to which the reply is "placing it better helps". Whm continues with "i place it where you should be after dodging aoes"........sigh. After explaining thta they need to look out for where the bishop turret is, as thats where mobs will be tanked upon, i get "i dont care, whm is a lore farming class for me".........this is after nearly an entire run where this whm has hardly used any regen ability at all, never used tetra, placed assylum in stupid placed, never used presence of mind, used divine seal twice, used assize twice iirc, used cure III as a single target heal.
But you are probably thinking "this isnt too much if a horror story"
Well
This whm
Who couldnt use skills to save their lives
Who liked telling people how to play their job (incorrectly)
Who started getting snarky with everyone in the dungeon
Had a shiney above thier head
A shiney crown.......
A shiney crown that is meant to say "i know what i am doing and will gladly help other out to learn thier class"
The CROWN OF SHAME
NB/ i got all the dps comms \o/ (and the ninja got mine).
For me the "I don't care, whm is a lore farming class for me" was the kiss of death...
If I ever meet a heal like that in dungeon (either useless whm, automatique sch or sect-less AST) it would be instant kick
The worst is that having the crown is kind of really easy to do in the end...
And most of the crowned people are so bad... that it's amazing -,-
Mentors are hilariously bad, and by the looks of it the newbies they teach actually believe on their bs because i've never seen so many healers, mentors and non mentors alike that spam their 1st tier heal continuously.
Taking 100 dmg from a 2 mob pull? cure spam! Use hallowed ground? CURE II SPAM! (yes this happened, it was a mentor too).
I would add that...
As a healer if you end up spamming your healing spell THEN you have to realise that something is highly wrong
Either you have a gear problem (never happends) or the tank is squishy or not popping cd (very high probability)
Or he stand in aoe
Most of the time a pull big or not in dungeon is :
Wait for stone skin to break
Wait for the tank to reach 70% Hp
Cure II and regen
Finish the pack
-> redo the heal if regen end or if the tank is near 50%
On massive pull same start but you pop
Divine seal + medica II + regen + asylum
And then free DPS time (with some holy when the tank is mid to low life to let the 4000 regeneration tick)
I queued into Dzamael Darkhold yesterday through DR. Our tank ran into mobs (no Tomahawk) and only targetted the original mob, leaving everything else to wallop on me after the first cure.
I checked his stats and he also had a 54 PLD, so I'm thinking..."wut?" How can someone who has 2 tank classes in the 40s and 50s not know the most basics of tanking?
I gave it a shot though....for 5 minutes. He pulled 3 packs of mobs into the room right before the first boss. And he did not stand in the purple. Wipe proceeded.
I didn't feel like explaining to this person the basics of doing his job and spending an hour crawling through this dungeon, so I ate the penalty.
But really! How can someone see mobs smacking on their healer and not be bothered by it?
Antitower roulette. Me as whm, PLD, Nin and blm.
First pull, I notice the tank's hp is dropping like he is hitting all aoes. Fine enough, I'll restrain on dps... We keep going.. we reach the big pulls with the spriggan that comes right after the first boss, I manage to fit in some dps and after a couple of seconds, I'm horrified to discover the PLD is below the 2k bar, quickly switch off CS, drop a tetra and stay in healing mode, watching carefully how he uses his cooldown. Answer being, he doesn't use any. That starts to make sense.. So I let him know it would be great if he could use a few... to which he replies with "la baguette", probably the only french word he knows.
I take a second look at his gear, to discover - even more horrified - that he is using ALL strength accessories. I hadn't really paid attention before that, but then I realized he had 17k hp, just like anybody else in the party, or close to that. Had I been healing a monk as tank, it would have made no difference.
Honestly, after seeing a gladiator in Hyur Gear in Toto-Rak, I'm now kind of scared to set foot in the levelling Roulette as a healer.
Went into levelling roulette on AST, got brayflox with an obvious three party pre-made comprised of DRK, MNK, DRG. Everything seemed fine, DRG seemed to not know how to use their class but meh, that doesnt matter much. Spend quite a bit of time dps'ing where i can in pulls, first boss full cleric stance most fight, second boss not so much as they decided to not kill the dragon add or tank it so damage was going everywhere. Section after is where it got interesting. The big open area up to the third boss, they decided to pull 3-4 PACKS of mobs, and no one was doing aoe at all. Tank wasnt holding hate so everyone was dropping, things were not dying fast at all, and i went OOM healing everyone through this pull. After i asked why the big pull since no one was doing aoe. The response i got was "you seem to be bored since you are not doing enough dps so we gave you something to do" (or something along those lines). I didnt response, just waited for them to pull again to see if they would do another stupid pull. They did. My response was menu>duty finder>leave duty. I hope they had fun.......
NB/ these were also not new players, these were people with multiple level 60's.
Leveling Roulette for my WHM. Got Sunken Temple of Qarn. From the first pull I noticed something was up. Sprout tank was single targetting just one mob in a pack and just let the rest wail on me.
I asked were they aware of Flash and told them how to use it. No response. Checked his language settings, English was indeed selected. Second pull. Same story. I asked again...no response. Third pull no response. Mobs continue to chew on me. One of the dps chimes in ( both we're also sprouts) with "this isn't the first time he's done this". It seems this wasn't their first attempt at the dungeon and they were unlucky enough to get paired with the same tank again. We did the whole dungeon with me tanking and healing. I didn't want to abandon the poor DPS xD
*sigh* you can't help those that don't want to be helped.
Large pulls where the healer may not be expecting it? I know I've missed the icon for Hallowed Ground on occasion and I am so used to the expected damage output I don't stop healing, focusing my attention on where I am standing so I stay out of bad things.
And if a mentor never learned the Hallowed Ground Icon (Paladin isn't the only tank after all), it's entirely possible they didn't know what it did.
I'm not sure if this would qualify for a healing horror story...more of a...healing crazy experience? This happened yesterday evening.
I queue as PLD and pop into Cutter's Cry for my leveling roulette. I say hello and am greeted by silence from everybody. So...it's going to be a normal evening.
We complete the first group and one dps drops. We then complete the whole first room and the healer drops. So now it's just myself (tank) and a random-dps-I-don't-remember. Doesn't really matter what they were, they drop as well...just as MCH joins in.
I explain that I don't know what the heck is going on, nobody had said anything and just dropped randomly. He was the first person to talk to me! Another MCH joins in so now we're PLD, MCH, MCH. We wait for about 5 minutes without a healer joining and decide to just carefully trio up until the first boss.
The fights would pretty much go...I charge in, die 30 seconds later (in hindsight, I should've swapped my Cure in
(continued in next post)
((I think it's my 4th cross-class skill)), but I didn't...), and then the MCHs would kite things around and pew pew until they died. It was...amusing.
So we get to the first boss and a healer still hasn't joined. I tell them I'm going to drop and requeue as healer myself since we weren't having any luck. I do so and manage to meet back up with my 2 MCH buddies, hurray!
So basically we trio the entire dungeon up until the 2nd set of trash mobs before the last boss. Amazingly, there were no other deaths after I swapped to WHM. I'd basically barrel in, fling 1 mob away with Fluid Aura, Repose that mob and the 2 MCH would wail on the remaining mobs while I spammed cures like my life depended on it (AND IT DID!) I was tanking 90% of the time, my health dipping into double digits quite frequently.
A tank joined in right at the end and we cleared the dungeon 10 minutes later. One of the craziest experiences I've ever had in leveling roulette!
I saw enrage in the first phase of Thornmarch HM. Instant wipe.
...that being said, it wasn't the fault of DF. My friend and I were trying to duo it on alts (him PLD 59, me WHM 51, neither of us to HW in the story, so I have i110 gear and he's in i120 mostly). I just didn't know it was possible to be too low on DPS there.. we went from hopeful to horrified when the first moogle was still up at the third spawn, to panicked as we dodged flares, to utter disbelief when the king came out and murdered us.
At least it made us laugh!
It's either not enough DPS or too much DPS
Since king mog enrage is trigger by time or damage if mogs are not killed before damaging him
More than one time I had a garuda triggering the enrage with the MT by staying on the boss XD
Yep, it was only two of us in there, unsynced. The king eventually comes out even if you don't kill all of the moogles.
If anyone has a 50+ DPS on Jenova and wants to try to three man it sometime, I bet I could talk my friend into it. ;D
Working my way through my Daily Roulettes on my AST, get to the Levelling Roulette and end up in The Aery.
Everything is going smoothly, keeping the tank alive(who was doing pretty well), Throwing my cards out all the time, Throwing out DoT's/Malefic II's during small packs/bosses and Gravity during bigger trash packs, refreshing any missing stoneskins as the last mobs die and cast Noct Benefic Shield on tank between pulls.
Then during the last few trash packs the BLM decides starts saying "lol...just no" after every trash pack.
We get to the last set of trash(the one with the waves of dragons) and when the last wave come (the ones that die in like 2-3 hits) I gravity them as they group on us ........
Only to be met with a wall of caps lock text saying that I should just heal and debuff ( I have no idea what he meant there, cards maybe) and that my damage is literally 0 and that AST is his main.
I tell him that if the tank is doing that good and not dying that i'm not just going to stand there and do nothing. And he just says that "debuffs would be better but w/e" (again what the hell did that mean?)
I just..... I don't even know what to make of that.
lol.... debuffs.... >_> It means he doesn't know wtf he's talking about, for any and all of it.
From the sounds of it, you were doing fine. No dead tank, helping DPS, refreshing shields, stance and sect dancing.... sounds all good, to me >.> And assuming you were doing cards, too /shrug
Was spamming Niddhogg sometime over the weekend, for the hell of it, and got a run that... well...
I'm used to parties vote abandoning over low DPS in the adds phase. It was about 50/50 pass/abandon in the times I'd spammed it...
but this run kinda took the cake for 'interesting'.
At first, I thought it would be a nice group - a good number of new people, about 3 or 4 non-new (the tanks, a dps and myself, I think). A tank explained to group what to do, then it was pulled. Once we got to the adds phase, I numbered Shadow Dragon/Middle add as '1' to focus........ then saw it immediately switch to a tank's add.
Now, from experience, every time I'd been in a group where they want tanks adds to be killed first,
a.) The person vehemently DEMANDS the tanks adds are killed first and generally turns aggressively toxic or pissy, real quick. I have -no- idea why these two things seem to correlate. o_o And I've seen it happen multiple times >_>a
b.) Rarely does it go well, thanks to the untouched, roaming shadow dragon that no one is paying attention to.
We can't meet the DPS check, several times, and the newer people are having problems dodging the blue/black AoEs. I understand that - it's hard to see, at first, but I've trained myself to listen for the "CHANK!" sound, rather than wait to see it. Tried telling the group this, but I'm not sure it was heard - or they just weren't hearing/unsure what I was talking about.
A few wipes later, the same tank goes completely toxic, the co-healer and a DPS are baited and fighting back and I'm just, "Guuyyyyyssss chiiillll. Frustration leads to anger and anger leads to mistakes - fighting is not going to help you or anyone else".... >.>; Something along those lines.
Luckily, that seemed to quiet the party for then and we gave it another go.... but the damage was already done - people are busy dying because they're typing and still angry with each other, the toxicity from the tank had already eaten away at everyone's will and patience and it's just a massacre.
And that tank just stood around at the start, doing nothing, sulking.
It ended up just being me, alive, so I just /sit in a cauterize.
Kicked the sulking tank.
Went over some tactics about the adds, hoping to redirect attention off that tank - stating that I'd been taught to do middle first, and why I think that's the best solution (DPS loss off the tanks dragons when everyone is either scattering and killing rotation to avoid the roaming dragon, or not seeing him patter up behind them and get the debuff... if he's attacked first, their attention is focused on him and his windups........ if the dps listen about not standing in front of him). etc.
(btw, if there's some tactic to killing the tanks dragons first, over the Shadow Dragon/middle add, I'm genuinely curious as to the reasoning, so I know for the future.... or if that tactic is just bunk)
New tank arrives - good to go.
We try the middle add kill, this time... we got closer, but the amount of DPS just wasn't enough. We did, however, get them down to the point where we thought we had it... killed the last dragon before Nidd's pushback, but it must not have been soon enough. Insta-wipe.
Morale is dead. It had be dying since the first tank's negativity.
Everyone just gave up, in one way or another... because in the next pull, it was just me and the MT still alive, after some one hit kills from Cauterize.... in the first phase.
Tried to raise the co-healer - they were having none of it. They were done.
Tried to raise a bard for mp.
Gots mah mp! \o/ /thanks!
Bard dies OTL
Try again...
dps dies.
At this point it's just me and the MT duo-ing it, for a good..... 5-10 mins?
Hey, maybe in a year or two, we can get LB3 up for me to slam?
Part of me is all, "Nooooo don't give up! The MT isn't giving up, so neither should you! \o/"
The other part of me is thinking, "They're hating your gaddamn guts, right now, for drawing this out |||OTL"
Nobody really said anything, but I hope they used this to study the routine/rotation that Nidd does x.x;
Several rounds of the hole AoEs/cauterize/wings/tail/roars later, I decide to try to catch the MT in my aspected (diurnal) helios on top of the aspected benefic so I can get some DPS in without being overly worried.
Moved in a little closer and started to cast when----baked kitty.
Nidd fire breathed/cleaved the tank just as I moved up under his chest (not quite under his neck, but not quite under his stomach) and one-shotted me. z_z
I have the shittiest timing, ever.
Tank proceeded to try to hold on, with living dead, etc, but I'm pretty sure you can guess how that ended, regardless.
Vote abandoned immediately after.
TL;DR - Even if the party isn't up to the challenge try, try and try - learn, learn and learn. Being an ass won't make the party better and will do nothing for anyone :/
I can't even. I love "Astro mains" like these. Had one while I was leveling up who told me arrow only affects melee's and how he's right because he "MAAAAINNNNSSSS" astro.
Just laugh it off, seriously. Anyone who fails to read tooltips properly of their supposed main job, isn't really maining that job but is just a walking joke.
The tank was correct. The normal strategy is to kill the tank adds first in the order of Brobinyak -> Falak -> Dragon. In-fact you must do it that way in extreme, otherwise the tanks will die due to disease and stacks, which also prevents a tank swap. Although this strat works just as good in normal mode, even if it's just a simpler DPS check without the tank burden. You'll have more DPS if you free up a tank's add so they can drop tank stances and go ham on the other. One healer can just simply DPS both adds, then both healers can simply DPS the dragon when that is left. So if anything you are just making duty finder dps check harder (which we all know isn't always up-to-snuff) by killing the dragon first whereas the other two have to be tanked.
Dragon acts the same way as Stone Vigil HM version, they have no aggro table and the furthest range can bait their hit (usually a healer). There is no problem letting it run loose, their attacks are all telegraphed by their hands and just requires dodging. It just requires paying attention.
As far as Nid EX is concerned, yes, you have to kill the other dragons first. In Normal, however, it's much more situational. Here's how:
Do we have a lot of BLMs, and to a lesser extent BRDs and MCHs in the group? Kill the Shadow dragon first - otherwise your DPS are left with the following choice: move and lose dps, or stand still and lose dps. BLMs especially need to be able to "turret", but BRDs and MCHs are less mobile than SMNs and Melee. If not, you can try killing the other dragons first, but see the next paragraph.
If your comp is mobile enough to be able to put up good dps while avoiding the cleave, and you wipe anyway, ask yourself if people are paying attention and getting out of the way of the Shadow Dragon's cleave. If they aren't, the Shadow Dragon should die first so that fewer debuffs go out and people can do more DPS.
And remember: This is DF we're talking about here. There's a reason "Shadow First" has become the default on Normal (not that I'm happy about it, but that's the way it is).
--Erim Nelhah
Dragon first isn't the default kill order in normal, and party comp doesn't matter. A healer can stand in the north or south part of the platform to bait the Dragon fireballs themselves. The melee cleave would happen regardless if it's all melee or what not. You only have to move over when his hands move, that hardly much of a dps loss. No one has to run around like a chicken just because the add does roam free.
The bigger gain is there is two freed tanks in DPS, and two healers are able to contribute DPS as there no healing required for that one.
There is no fireball in normal, only cleave, and in DF i'm pretty sure most people not gonna dodge. A few dps with dmg down debuff would lead to a wipe easy :)
