This right here. It would have taken them half the time to just explain that melee also do padlock. There's no excuse for those comments. I hope you reported him, Evangela.
I reported him before I post here.
Actually, I know that melee can attack the padlock. It's just that we don't need everyone to do that. We had two BLMs in the team so I chose to focus on the two little adds and then move to the boss, didn't realize that the other DPSs forgot about the padlock and the guy in there was killed.
These crossclass skills...

Yes, he was a jerk and hopefully got punished. But the chance of people forgetting the padlock (or just not wanting to touch it for varying reasons) is why you should always go help anyway. Never assume someone in DF will do mechanics - you'll only be disappointed.
If you are worried about your DPS, I would recommend checking the ninja thread in the DPS forums for recommended rotation, and trying SSS in the hinterlands to see if you're meeting the SE recommended levels for the content you do.
I met the second nice mentor I'd ever met since the system rolled out last night in Expert Roulette. Lost City HM: I'm BRD, friend is WHM, tank is a DRK, and mentor is a MNK.
This tank was what I like to call one of "those dark Knights"; i.e., never turned on Darkside except maybe once. It always irks me to see DRKs not use Darkside because they lose access to their best abilities and most potent combo. Anyways, we kill the first group of the bettle and catipillar things after the first wall. He proceeds to pull gremlins and then all the way down to the second wall. Well he gets squished. Hard. Mostly because facetanking and he failed to aggro all of them so the ones that he didn't flocked to my friend the minute she healed him. We wipe. Tank is like "Lol guess that was too much for you" and the mentor responded with a comment about how the tank failed to use cooldowns, which was true.
Anyways, we restart and go slower. Things are going well (minus the still no Darkside). We get to the pulls with the mana pots, and the mentor tries to give him some advice because both he and I are pulling hate from the tank (idk how I was--I'm a freaking BRD, and yes, I was attacking the targets he was attacking). The tank was complaining about us pulling from him, so the mentor and I were tell him things that would help--like using Darkside, and I mentioned doing a Blood Price-Unleash spam because that's what I do when I pull and I rarely lose hate after that. Mentor also said dropping Grit after gaining enough aggro increases damage output for drks, therefore more aggro while still helping with the overall DPS. Tank mentions something about MP management (ugh) and both monk and I tell him he can use Blood Weapon while not in Grit, and also a non-DA Carve and Spit to recover MP (along with the Syphon Strike combo). We reach the final boss, tank takes our advice, didn't lose hate, and we cleared it perfectly! However he ran out of the dungeon so fast I'd barely opened the last coffer so I guess he didn't appreciate our advice that much, but... :/ We weren't being mean about it. Just trying to help him be a better DRK and use all the utilities the job has to offer. And the MNK even sacrificed his GL stacks to help out too! ;-;
I just don't like drks that won't use Darkside. Especially if they say it's because of the MP management since the job gives you tools to use to keep up MP. Yeah it takes getting used to and I hate it when I sync down below 35 because Blood Price is my best friend but. ;-;
But it was a good run. And kudos to you, MNK mentor! :D
The thing to keep in mind for this is where you are in the dungeon. If you are cleaning up the last pull (or mobs are almost dead from a giant pull) before a boss encounter, it's better to sit on Enochian. This allows you to be ready for the boss enounter instead of either forcing the group to wait (granted it's a short amount of time) or going into the battle without a fresh use of Enochian. You would be surprised how many times I've seen BLM not have Enochian available for their opener because they didn't plan ahead. In fact, I'm guilty of this with convert as sometimes groups move faster than the average ones I get in DF.
True, I never use Enochian for the last trash pack before the boss unless I know it'll take more than a minute to kill it, so I have it available for the boss itself. About Convert, I used to mess up with its cooldown a lot :D Now I use it at the first pack of a dungeon or the first pack after a boss unless I know we'll reach the next boss in less than three minutes (which happens a lot when running content with my BLM friend. Double Flare ftw).
Same, but I've found that with some party comps, it's a waste to use it on the first pack as they are about to die by the time you want to double flare. In an average run, you can still use it on the second pull as well to have it for the boss, but when you just melt the mobs, you sometimes end up getting to the boss with it on cooldown and the tank already pulled (cooldown is just short enough too that by the time you get to it in your opener it still has 3-5 seconds left T.T).
Once again I got a dreaded extreme trial for mentor roulette. Half of these have been fails so far. Two Garuda wins vs an Odin and Ramuh fail.
Last night was Ultima's Bane. As usual the majority of the party was barely geared. There was one other mentor, a 60 DRG. The party was actually doing well for the most part, but we had repeated wipes because, well, mechanics and barely geared. The other tank was doing really well, and when we were at 20% echo they used Hallowed to eat most of the orbs in the final phase of the fight. The other mentor cautioned everyone not to lose focus. The party pulled through with a victory! It was a great moment, and felt good after trying to get a party through Ramuh that ended up abandoning. This party stayed positive and focused. Nice to be able to share the good stories.
After a long time I had to kick someone from our roulette and I didn't even feel bad about it. It was expert in Lost City, I was on AST with bf on DRK, had a BRD and a DRG.We all say our hellos except the BRD and start. Actually the DRG was very nice to play with, very cheerful and skilled too. The BRD was silent and um... on every pull went afk... then returned for the next and went afk again. We waited for him since he was even out of the minimap and the DRG asked him if everything was ok but no response but he finally catches up. We enter first boss and yep, BRD engages it but then just auto attacks so all my cards from then on went to either the DRG or the tank >_> He comes with us when we're done but doesn't lot on the treasure but at least he's there with us.
Nah he wasn't really XD first pull after boss same story, he engages one, but when that monster dies he doesn't follow and just stands there afk. I pop another chest and this is what he does for the rest of the run: he would lot on all the items hanging in the chest except the last one, so I was positive we had a leecher with us and he didn't want to get kicked therefore holding the pool.
And this is when I start getting annoyed. The DRG asked him if he was ok, no answer, no hello, nothing, we don't go all out as if this was savage mind you, but at least we make it so it's a pleasant run for everybody and pull our weight. This guy... it just infuriated me that he actually wanted a cheeky carry like that.
So right after the last set of pots died and the cs triggered for the last boss, I said in party I needed a quick afk of 2 min. DRG said sure no problem. In reality I wanted to wait out the treasure since the BRD didn't lot on it again and kick him. Yes it's a very bitchy thing for me to do, on the last boss. But also it's a very cheeky thing to be acting like this for the BRD. If he really needed afk I would have no problem. After all, we all have either a baby or puppy on our lap, or anything else from the weird odd real life. Just some words, anything, and I will wait. But don't go like a zombie primadonna strategically using the treasure to your advantage and force us to carry you to your tomes. If you can't pay enough attention to the duty you are facing or are too busy doing something else, please have the decency to not play others like fools.
So, I'm not home on weekdays for... uh, until further notice, so after I got my Hyperconductive Deneb on Monday I pretty much vanished off the face of the earth until today. I'm not in the mood for roulettes due to the Deneb still being fresh, so I get the moths off my Paladin and take it for a whirl since I'm not that far off of 55. Now, first thing I do, is forget Shield Oath until the first boss in Sohm Al. I was wondering why the hell the BLM and SMN were pulling aggro like that... orz... Not one of my brightest moments there, it really wasn't (I switched it on once I realised). IF THOSE THREE FROM THAT RUN SEE THAT, I AM AN IDIOT BEAN PLEASE FORGIVE ME
Now then, I'm a mentor myself. I usually don't walk around with the crown because of how most mentors are - I actually got that thing because I wanted to help, but I ended up so utterly terrified of how mentors treat people that I just, yeah, hid it. My friend doesn't, and we've both been mentors since day one.
Sohm Al, this time with my friend. A SMN and a NIN, and we get the new person message for the NIN. It goes slowly, the SMN loses MP like crazy, and the NIN doesn't have Huton. At some point my friend speaks up, but neither people react. Seeing that I'm German and actually queue with the D tagged due to my client being in English, I get curious and open the party list after the first boss.
Yup, both are D's, and D only. Now then, my interpreting training pops up, so I start parrotting my friend in German - and both actually react! NIN has no idea what friend and I are talking about,so we tell him how to use Huton. Which he starts doing from then on!
The SMNand their MP problems actually had my brain immediately work out the problem (I don't pay attention to cast bars when I'm tanking); Ruin 3. I tell the SMN what's up and they stop using it on trash packs as if it were Ruin. The rest of the dungeon goes swimmingly well, we melt through trash and this run was the first one since I hit level 54 where we don't (!) have to limit break the green blob to make it through. I popped Hallowed for absolutely nothing out of fear. With a spirited "Don't forget huton^^" (in German, mind) I kick off one of the most enjoyable Tioman fights I've had in a while.
After all that and a quick Guildhest I hit level 55, a friend comes online. She tags along for my first Aery as PLD, weget a DRG. Too bad my friend went in as SCH... 'Cause normally I'm a firm believer of "you pull it, you tank it". If you can't wait these 5 seconds until I'm there and pull, tough luck.
Also, as main DRG, what really made my heart bleed (along with my bruised hand scream in pain as I clenched the controller in fury) was the fact that this DRG jumped on something as soon as I Shield Lobbed something to get it into position... on a thing I didn't Shield Lob. Before I was in position to use Flash/Circle of Scorn. Protip: Don't Do That. Sincerely, A Dragoon Main Who's Levelling A Tank.
If you listen to the folks in the Tank section, being in Shield Oath instead of Sword Oath is a grave offense. You had the right idea in the first place, apparently. Consensus seems to be that Shield Oath is reserved for PLDs with low skill.Quote:
Now, first thing I do, is forget Shield Oath
I'm level 55, I don't really care about tank dps at this point. Maybe once I hit 60, but even then it's highly unlikely I'll tank outside of my FC - I'm hilariously insecure about my skill thanks to one guy brutally ripping into me with zero advice when I levelled DRK. It's a miracle I have DRK on 60, and a miracle I'm confident enough to tank at all at this point.
And I wasn't in Sword Oath either. I was completely and utterly Oath-less, and even being in Sword Oath would've most likely made me cry for aggro despite my cycling through targets - that BLM was lagging, but that SMN was REALLY REALLY GOOD. As opposed to me, the still slowly learning PLD without an Oath on.
And I know what a SMN with skill can do to a tank's aggro; one of my best friends is an excellent SMN, and I've taken a few tips from him and I'm tearing aggro like crazy in Ex Roul.
Nah I do the same thing, nothing more satisfying than making sure they truly wasted time by not letting them complete the roulette at the last second. Being a DPS (and even a tank for the last boss in Expert lost city) easily replaced or not needed if you have a melee.
Had a really awful day yesterday. My 21-year-old cat managed to misswallow some of her water to the point where I needed to dangle her in the air and smack her chest to get it out of her lungs and then give her some CPR. Both of which I had never actually done before, but only read about in books a very long time ago. I live in the middle of nowhere, so the nearest vet is 3 hours away. She's doing great now, thankfully, but it was a very long, stressful, and expensive day.
So after a long rest and lots of snuggles, I went ingame in the early AM to try to get some bonus Lore before the bonuses reset. I forgot to take off my Mentor crown (I wasn't really in the mood to be a teacher, as you could imagine) and I queued for trial roultette. It was Mog HM, we didn't get any new player bonus and the tank pulled immediately after my Stoneskin II went out. We one-shot the fight without issues even without anyone marking the moogles.
When the King died one of the DPS piped up, "I don't know why you bother to wear that crown, Selli. You didn't explain anything or even say hi. People like you are the reason why everyone hates Mentors and I hope someone knocks you off your little high horse and shows you some humility one day." As much as I wanted to tell this guy to go f*ck himself with a cactus, I was much too drained to put up with it. So I simply typed up a "sorry" and left.
I'm just posting this story here as a reminder that there are people on the other side of the screen. You don't know the other person or what they might be dealing with, so try to put your kind foot forward, guys, even if you're having a bad day too. <3
I just had an Antitower run, I was a NIN with a DRG, SCH, and DRK. The first part went smoothly, downed the first boss in five minutes. So the tank pulls as much as he can and it's like the Dragoon just stopped trying. He didn't AoE and I was watching his TP and I don't think he was doing his full rotation. So the fight takes a bit longer than normal. The tank just pulls the three golems by themselves. I thought maybe it was just a fluke, but nope the Dragoon doesn't really do much. I have Goad, you have Invigorate. Let loose a little bit.
That wasn't necessary. That DPS was probably trying to pick a fight or trying to score brownie for talking down a mentor or whatever. And I hope your cat does okay.
I queue for MS roulette and get Praetorium this time around. I'm still new to healing in trials, and sometimes I get scared if a keyboard warrior has a go at me. But anyway, I get in, and the other WHM is there for their first time, and watching all cutscenes, so that left me by myself. It's not a hard one to heal actually, barely anyone takes any damage, but I was still wary. We get to ultima, and I say "One healer... rip party", which to my surprise the other players were cheering me on etc. It's nice to find some really nice people in DF these days. (I have bad luck in DF)
Decided to queue for Sohm Al or whatever the seven hells you call it and I get an alright group. Basically smooth sailing till last boss where DRG dies at least 4 times, but I get in some swiftcast+resurrects in to save the day, and I was really proud of my healing that run. Turns out the BLM was on Phoenix, and we were next to each other too! Was awkward at first, but I added her and went on my way.
Yeah, that's what it felt like to me too. It was just really bad timing for that to happen. But I'm also glad it was me and not someone who was having a super bad day. :x Was totally uncalled for.
She's doing really good today. I think she'll be fine. c: She's just a bit wheezey and I won't let her drink anything without someone watching her (which she isn't too fond of, but that's okay). But she's a lot less grumpy and more snuggly today, so I think she might be feeling a lot better.Quote:
And I hope your cat does okay.
Lol telling the bard to play foe requiem the whole run in DD, and he only ever played it once.
Keep telling him to play it whole run, no response.
I did a vote kick on him since I was tired of non action.
'Special' Warrior steps in to defend him, saying foe req is useless because everything does physical damage in here. I'm like .... wtf? READ THE TOOLTIPS
got kicked, so they can stay bad forever I guess
So I do antitower as a SCH and I get a BRD, BLM, WAR. Everything goes smoothly until the second boss. The BLM refused to get out of the aoes, and he died twice.. When we asked why he wouldnt go away he said: "leylines..." We were mad...
Eh, being new makes people nervous I know, but prae is super easy.. I've solo healed with DPSing in i55 with DoH/DoL accessories awhile back. If the rest of the party knows what to do, it's easy.
Aw, poor kitty. :( Good to hear she seems to be feeling better. Animals have a knack for weird accidents.. one of mine once managed to get her dewclaw stuck in her eyelid while taking a nap.. (no harm done, scared the hell out of me)
Did Level 60 roulette yesterday morning. DRK, SCH (me), NIN and a BLM. For the entire run the NIN just used Huton and Spinning Edge. Occasionally I'd see a combo-ed Gust Slash there, but those we're rare.
Thank god for that awesome DRK that allowed me to throw out DPS, and thank God for that awesome BLM that melted the trash all by himself.
I like this BLM. Live by the Ley Lines, die by the Ley Lines.
Nah seriously. You use your Ley Lines for the opener, smash 3 Fire IVs on the boss, then nuke the meteors with one Fire IV each. This way their aoes won't even get the chance to reach your Ley Lines, and after that the boss should die fast enough so that the skill won't be ready again during the fight. Dying to meteor aoe because you don't wanna leave your Ley Lines = DPS sucks.
Also, Aetherical Manipulation is a thing LOL.
Today most of the Thordan EX parties...

Trial roulette, AST's raise macro is "(Insert name here) get up you filthy casual", was pretty funny tbh, whole party was like 'wtf?'. Shame they left just as I was about to give them a commendation.
And this is exactly why I refuse to be a mentor. That, and because most of the ones I have met are utter garbage. I've met maybe 2 or 3 nice ones. I would have just told them to go f*ck a cactus and wouldn't have even cared because I have little to no patience with jerks in this game. I'm sorry you meet so many jerks in this game.
I do hope your kitty is doing better. :<
Whoops. I have been distracted and haven't read this thread since yesterday morning. Sorry y'all!
Oh god, that sounds horrifying. o.o" I trim the cat's claws now that she's older since she doesn't scratch her post as often (I think it hurts her back a bit). She did once cut her ear with her back claw while scratching, but it was super minor. I don't think it bled for more than a couple seconds.
The most horrific accident we've ever had to deal with was 15 years ago when Tanya (that's the name of the old kitty) tried to jump from my mother's bed to the window sill, and my mom had just bought a new bed frame and was in the process of putting the new one together, so the mattress was just sitting on the floor making the bed suddenly about 5 inches shorter. Tanya didn't realize this, and took a running jump off the bed, and smacked face first into the wall. From the sound she made we thought she'd turned herself into a Persian and flattened her nose, LOL.
As much as I would love a nice big glass of wine some days, I actually have a pretty severe liver and kidney condition. So no drinking anything but water for me. ^.^"
I appreciate it though, thank you. <3
I don't mind being a mentor usually. I helping and teaching, so I find it really enjoyable. ^.^ And I probably would have told him that, had I been in a more confrontational mood (or been PvPing, lol), but I just... didn't want to deal with it, so I left... and I apologized out of habit, LOL. I'm such a Canadian stereotype. I think part of my bad luck might be because I use the forums a lot, so I think I might run into people who read the forums (not necessarily actually post) and decide they don't like me. But I guess it could be worse, as long as they don't start showing up on my doorstep or something.
And the kitty is doing very good today. She's acting like her usual self (except a little bit more clingy than usual, but that's okay with me!). I think she might also have a bit of a sore throat since I noticed she wasn't touching the meat chunks in her food (she eats a wet food-only diet), but mashing everything into a purée seems to have fixed that.
Maybe it's the forum thing, but, I mean, venting helps relieve frustrations and if people can't handle that they are actually doing more derping in DF than actually helping... :P I usually don't get confrontational in DF, but lately I haven't been able to stop calling people out.
And with the mentor thing, I'd like to, but I want to learn more about the jobs first. :P I don't think I'd mind it either if people would listen to advice/mechanics. I've had to help many people through some of the level 50 dungeons (poetics farming for relic yay) and they just blatantly refuses to listen to the advice/mechanics so I get fed up. :P
But I'm glad your kitty is better! :D When my kitties are sick it gets me really down too. They're essentially my babies. :3
Bismarck normal trial as BLM. I want an emoticon that illustrates how much I want to cry at it.
First off, I was dumb throughout the fight. Too used to executing a full lvl. 60 rotation, I went through my opening rotation, and tried to spam Fire IV, forgetting that I was synced to 58 and so didn't have Fire IV. But I managed to fix the problem and switched to using Fire/Fire III procs after a few seconds of standing there like an idiot. I was scrambling the whole fight, trying to avoid stupid AoEs everywhere, especially the ones that throw me around like a ragdoll.
But none of this was as annoying as the new BRD. I asked them specifically to sing Foe's Requiem. Considering that there were 2 BLMs in the party, it shouldn't even have to be asked. Instead, not only does their MP sit at full until the first wipe, they're not even using Wanderer's.
So yeah. We wipe because we couldn't kill the adds fast enough. I think I asked again for them to sing Foe's during the fight.
Instead? They sing Mage's Ballad. It isn't until one of the healers or tanks point out that nobody needs Mage's, and tells them to sing Foe's that they finally start singing it. So there's 2 BLMs in a party, one of the BLMs asks for Foe's twice and gets ignored, because obviously a DPS's opinion is worth absolutely nothing.
And in the end, I had to use LB on the adds in Phase 2 because we couldn't kill them fast enough. None of that infuriates me as much as this attitude that DPS don't matter. I don't care if the BRD doesn't use Wanderer's Minuet. It's a recent skill; maybe they're not used to the new playstyle. But Foe's Requiem is a friggin' level 35 skill, and I don't understand how someone can not know how to use it at level 57.
Correction: level 45.
But yeah, the devs should really redesign the Lv. 45 Bard quest to drill into the heads of every new Bard to go sing Foe for your freaking mages. I mean, one could argue that the Bard instructor failed in his mission years ago because he went off by himself and DIDN'T SUPPORT HIS PARTY.
So, I queue for trials roulette and get The Steps of Faith, usual hellos etc. And then I realise I'm the only one healing. The other WHM was in cleric mode the whole time and only healed a tiny bit. I didn't say anything, but I could tell the tanks were annoyed. Bard and DRG die, I raise them with swiftcast, and then a few mins later, half the party dies, including myself. No raise? It was urgent and the dude didn't even bother to raise the tank. I just finished and left, got 3 comms.
Why do I have such bad luck? I'd rather have friends to do dungeons/trials with :c
You shouldn't be raising anyone in The Steps of Faith (except maybe the tank if both die) - better to have them run back and not end up with weakness.
Because it's Steps of Faith and you can release and run back. You should be doing that instead, as you won't have Weakness from being raised.
I've been restraining myself from posting here 'cause getting bad people in DF is standard for me (in my expert today I doubled the dps of the bard through the entire run... as a scholar). But my leveling roulette today on my alt's blm... oh boy.
I could tell this tank was "special":

At the second boss:

They were pretty terrible actually, they either lost hate to me or the whm, or didn't even tag mobs at all so they'd go to me or the whm. Might've been a blessing though, as extra Unmends also meant extra Darkness Pew-pew!!s.
Here's a sample of what I had to endure the entire dungeon:
