FFXI does not auto DC on afk, nor has it ever, even when there were 2million subs in that game, and everyone was able to login always - its a server issue, SE needs to get bigger servers, that's all

Easy enough: Load up your inventory with cheap mats, craft something with it before AFK timer would kick you.
AFK timers will never be a solution, there hasn't been one in MMO history that couldn't be circumvented within 1 or 2 minutes of setting stuff up to do it. I'd rather spent 1 or 2 minutes setting it up than face a whole evening trying to login..
Thread: Please die...
And I'm sure if that if any of those cross the line into botting you will get penalized for it. That being said, I wouldn't call it the one and only solution, but part of a bigger solution involving improved server infrastructure and more servers as a last resort.
How do I cancel my sub on this POS game made by incompetent programmers ?
Why not just restart the servers every 12 hours or so, during off peak hours? Dont wanna do it during peak hours because it would obviously cause congestion issues and possibly make things worse, but during off hours it shouldnt be a big deal. That would get rid of any AFK'ers/botters, and allow others a chance to actually get into the game if they are lucky enough to be trying to get on when the restart takes place. Maybe im missing it, but i dont see where this would cause any issues.
If you're botting/afk you arent gonna be trying to log back on when the servers come back up, and if you were in game, then you go get a drink/food/bio and wait 10-15 min or so and log back in. Only thing i really see being affected is maybe groups running instances, but that can be partially avoided with a pre-reset warning ahead of time.
this is the second big mistake Yoshi did after wrong population previsions.
i dont see why not add this, or at least...try.....
This needs to happen now...
Why has this not been implemented yet?!

They seem to be pussyfooting around the issue. Don't get your hopes up for a AFK fix anytime soon. They'd rather try their luck with "increasing server capacity." We'll see how well this goes in the coming days.Quote:
Resolving AFK Character Issues
From several users on some of our more congested Worlds, we have received requests for a feature which automatically logs out characters who are AFK for an extended period of time. We are actively looking into the implementation of such a feature, but have decided to first concentrate our efforts on increasing the number of Worlds and optimizing the Duty Finder servers.
Just wish some who are AFK would get the heck off. I've spent my entire day off trying to log in and couldnt. Since tuesday i have been considerate in logging off when im not playing and then play the freaking waiting game when i go to log back in. But now no one wants to log and i havent gotten to play all day. Next time i wont be so considerate.
Bump and sign
You have been lucky then. Yesterday it took me 10 hours to get in. I've been trying today for over nine hours with still no luck. A friend of mine has tried every 20 mins, several attempts at a time, for the past two days and he still can't get on. I know my frustration comes from recieving error 3102 most of P4, error 10102 during early access, and now I get error 1017 or 2002. The fact is alot of people simply can't play.
They just need to make it so that more than 5k ppl can be logged into a server at once on the high pop servers. That seems like a very small server population to me.
Get better servers! I believe if you pay for the service you should be able to do what ever you want, AFK is one. You are paying to idle. SE gets to cop-out on having the best servers, that can actually handle the paying customers. I still don't get how they set such low caps on the servers to begin with, you always go higher then expected then you can always limit down. It would only make sense to have even double the amount set as expected to play the game and then a month or two later you can always decrease so that you pay less. Equals a good launch and happy customers, who will pay long run.
I admit, I actually thought of staying logged in to keep my spot. Then consideration came, and I logged off.
Haven't been able to log in for the past two days. Part of the issue is the part of our community that's selfish; the other is
needed AFK timers and active ingame GMs to boot RMT and bots.
Im for it!
AFK timers please!
Thanks much Yoshi P and development team for your time and work. I love FFXIV ARR!
When I'm able to log in ^^;
Agreed. Every time I go to sleep at night, I think of staying log in, then hate myself for even having the though. I always log out and then am unable to log-in the next morning, though, eventually I do get in.
The most annoying thing for me is getting in the queue finally, then being kicked with 1017 at the end of it. Makes me want to flip my 150 pound desk.
Edit: AS I TYPED THIS POST, I GOT IN!:cool::cool:
I always log off when I go to sleep at night and I never afk for too long usually its only a couple of mins for food.
But I want to give other people a chance at the game it is kinda sad that afkers can prevent others from enjoying the game ><;.
Also I don't have much trouble logging in sometimes so its weird, but I hope everyone else starts having better luck.
I just signed off like I have normally done since Beta Phase 4 in order to let another player on my server get some time to enjoy the game :)
I will never log off on a weekend as long as there is no afk timer
Yeah A AFk kick timer would be nice in some games but what everyone wasn't counting on was FFXIV to be such a Big Hit and now that it is everyone just wants to bitch about how they cant get in well its simple wait your turn or just don't play. even though all SE would really have to do is in large the severs compasity witch they will do or they just lose members witch i don't see that happening anytime soon the game is great we all just need to give Yoshi P and the SE team some Credit they are doing a fine job and everyone needs to respect that.
If players want this game to be hugely popular, then log off so that new players can try to get in, and SE can continue to expand their services.
Before I logged off, there was 34 characters motionless at the Horizon aetheryte at 18 GMT. 8 hours later, there are 26 here doing nothing.
They are finally doing this next week apparently, from yoshidas post sticked to the top. I really don't know why they didn't just listen to the voices of reason so many months ago when they announced the removal of player bazaars. It ain't even people not logging off because of fear of not being able to get back in, people have always in FF online past stayed logged on, because there was a reason to do so : player bazaars. They should have done the right thing even during beta and had prolonged afk logoff implemented already. Would have saved us all a butt load of headache, frustrations, and anger toward SE.
