And then I dont change servers, but my NA and/or EU friends want to. I also cant tell them not to, because I cant hold others back.
Going back to chosing whats more important to you.

If it means I lag more just because you want to play with people from Japan? Then yes, I'll say it: You're wrong.
I can't enjoy the game with the amount of lag I experience now (that isn't based on my system, which is a high-performance rig) and that would be the ultimate killer for me going into 2.0, more so than anything else. I'd rather make new friends on a more local data center and have less lag. That's the bottom line for me and I'm not ashamed of having my own personal opinion and standing up for it, even if it differs from that of other people.
Well, sad thing to read. While I absolutely adore the changes made in 2.0 an announcement of this magnitude and the ramifications it will have effectively destroyed the social aspect of this game (for me at least) and my drive to play 2.0.
If lag is their excuse, maybe they should stop using sub par methods and the community should actually raise their expectations. Lesser companies than Square-Enix have done such while maintaining the global aspect of the game. Why settle for mediocrity when you could ask for so much more, especially a company with a renown like SE?
Its good your sticking with your friends but thanks to SE i won't be able to do the same, or at least not with all of them, Some of us are being forced to choose between our friends. I want to be able to play with my friends, not just make a character to talk to them.
If my opinions are creating a negative impact on you, then that's something i can't help. Your right my opinion are not facts but the likewise can be said to you. Claiming that if people don't change servers, their not true friends, that's your opinion and not a fact. You may be upset or feel like i flamed you (which is not my intention) but your doing the same, your arguments about friendship or why people want global servers is offensive, your targeting a group of people who feel a certain way as opposed to one person. Being told that people who choose different servers are not true friends is very offensive, it disregards other peoples circumstances and your making assumptions about other peoples situation.
Honestly i find it a bit funny that your upset, that my post was offensive to you, that i made assumptions about you, or my opinions sounded like facts. When your first post did those same things, you passed off your opinion as if it were facts, you made assumptions about other peoples situation and then made a very offensive comment.
People will get over it, change is hard.
So in your beliefs, people are wrong for making friends outside of their own kind, ok.
Also, XIV is unoptimized so your "high performance rig" means jack shit when SE themselves stated the a buggy mess, so it's the game itself that was performing poorly regardless of specs.
That's fine, however you're telling everyone else they're wrong for believing otherwise. You're worse than Christians at that point lol.Quote:

First off they're not segregating the current servers (or any servers technically), second you could easily make a second character in your other friends servers if you wanted so its not like you couldn't play with them if you wanted, we are getting access to a total of 40 characters to make how we please in 2.0. The solution they came up with is a middle ground, there actually ARE a ton of people that wanted regional servers, they already exist now among other things (Ragnarok). The only change is they are finally giving the people who have had huge lag spikes the 'option' to go to those other servers if they feel they can afford to abandon the friends they have established on the old server. Yes sometimes whole communities will migrate because of these changes. They are wedges I wish wouldn't happen but people have been pleading/asking for regional data centers for years even in FFXI where the lag was significantly less then the current game. The solution they came up with is the closest to a middle ground they could afford to do between two very different communal styles.
Theres those who value freinds, and then thos who value latencey. I pick friends even tho everyone is going to end up getting split up anyways, unless no one decides to move off of my server. I've been waiting for 2.0 for the improved servers, not the separation. I'll be staying on my current server to monitor the improvement. Those who want to jump ship without testing first, go right ahead.
I'm done with this.
Just wait for the outcry when they name the US server "Butterfly Fairyland" while the JP one is "Excalibur".
I'll just say this;
Maybe you guys should start listening to me sooner, I YELLED don't separate the community months ago. Nobody listened in fact most of you argued with me. That thread is now "locked" for whatever reason(stupid one). So, idk, I blame you guys, I tried to prevent it.
Atomos break!
Ok, let's clarify something up front. I realize people develop real friendships in online games. It happens every day.
That said, there is a huge difference between a real friend and a in-game "friend."
One is not going to abandon you no matter what because that's what friends do. The other will drop you on a dime if it benefits them because they aren't really your friend.
Shocking, I know.
Real friends interact outside of the game. Even if it's just email in the case of people who live far away from each other. I'd even go so far as to say if your entire relationship with a person is simply that you play more than one game concurrently together simply because you enjoy each other's company, you are real friends.
Guarantee you that the person described above isn't going to up and move to another server on you.
You see, my friends don't play this game. But if they did, I would play on their server. Why? Because they are my friends and I would want to play with them.
However, if all you do is play XIV with someone and there is no other interaction what so ever. News flash: You're probably not friends and there is a good chance that they would up and disappear on you if it benefited them to do so.
This is why some people are up in arms right now. Because it threatens the foundation of their entire social cosmos.
Cute dig about the friends. The fact is, it is because I have real friends that this idea that someone I've played with on the internet for a year or more might not really be my friend and dissappear tomorrow doesn't rock my reality right down to its core.
And if you really want to talk about thinking about others. This entire situation boils down to a handful of people who want to force others to play with them against their will. That's not thinking of others. That's exploiting others.
If that's the "community" you refer to, I want no part of it.
Quite frankly, it's disturbing.
Its right Faiyez because its "Final Fantasy", its the way they have always done it, again, for 12yr+, ive been in the same endgame ls since FF11 which ive been in for about 8yrs, about 1 1/2yrs ago we started up an EU "division" which is about 15 members. If you want to change something that important, change the name of the damn game, its not Final Fantasy, it just isnt.
Edit: On ff11 we had NA/EU/JP division and events ran around the clock, if you logged on, there was something to do. You all want to play 3hrs/week like you do on wow, you might aswell not play at all, you hate gaming.
Please dont do this....
The beauty of this game is its full of life all 24 hr. coz of international server.
This.
Considering it's not exactly forced on you (as they're not forcibly separating people by region), it's a fair price to pay for better game performance. As I said in the really old thread about this, your JP/EU friends won't make up for you wiping on mechanics you could easily avoid due to bad latency. It's one of those cases of not being to have the cake and eat it too.
So, we've got people responding directly to S-E regarding a post that's going to change something in the game, whining, if you will, then people who are whining about people whining.
Seriously, if you have nothing to add to the team, praise them for their decision and go on your way. You are satisfied costumers who are complaining about other customers not being satisfied. Get the fuck off.
We don't need this shit. We don't need people who got what they wanted constantly bashing on how we feel about this and how much of a non-issue our feelings are. We are not arguing with YOU. We are talking to the dev team. Go play the game. Go farm Atomos. Go do whatever the hell you want.
Everyone who is speaking up now, clearly did not expect this. Or did not read your thread.
I don't see what the big deal is, people have been complaining about lag since day one, and when they fix it you complain you are getting segregated. While I do have a couple friends that are JP players, they generally stick to themselves and shout for JP only anyways. The servers are already separated by language even though we are all on the same one... I would gladly have a full server of English speaking players with less lag, than a full server of players I can only play with half of because we can't communicate together, and have more lag.
Besides your qq is moot because players can choose whatever server they wish, if you want to play with all your friends, simply all choose the same server, just like you would now... The only difference is the proximity of the server to you. I support this plan and think it is for the better of the game, Great Job SE.
This thread is almost more epic than the server merge threads.
Nice long post but not everyone's personal life is limited or separated between in-game friends and Real life friends. I lived in Paris for awhile and during that time i made a friend who i can now only play with online but does that mean hes not a friend? I originally got into FFXI in Japan where i was a transfer student for 2 years, friends who i still play with now, friends who i visited twice since then and who have come visited me, are they not my friends? I have friends who i chill with at home and ones i can only play with online, just because i can't meet with them outside the game every day does not mean they are not friends.
Point being your personal situation is you have real life friends and online friends, with the clean separation between the two but not everyone personal life follows the same pattern. I'm not trying to force anyone to play against their will, the game was originally sold as being a global international game. Everyone knew this since ffxi days and before ffxiv release so those of us who want global servers are the ones being forced out.
I'd love to see you defend the implementation of Moogles, Chocobos, Malboros, etc without appealing to tradition. They chose to do a series game with 13 installments before it. They have no reason to add a lot of stuff XIV has besides the fact "Fans have grown accustomed to it".Quote:
I'm calling you out on your appeal to tradition, which means that you're arguing with a logical fallacy, which means that your argument is invalid.
SE. Please, please reconsider this.
I end up repeating myself again..but what's the point of copying a standard MMO that all end up failing after a couple months? What's so good about destroying everything unique and good about this game?
I do not like my community being destroyed. I strongly, very strongly disagree with this decision.
Maybe people would read your thoughts on relevant topics if you didn't post so much bullsh*t in 248729 other threads.
Now back to your hole with you.
The statement about the data centers was unclear from the beginning, but hardly anyone could believe that SE would eliminate one of the key-features of their game, which make it so unique and lovable.
There are other games with servers located in Japan - none of them has lag issues as XIV does. Fix your code instead of ripping apart the community. And if its fixed already, screw those data centers.
Wow, really? Really?
And just who would I have to defend it against? You?
Please realize what an appeal to tradition is about, and I'll tell you that even if someone complains about implementing a classical FF staple, I would never resort to a "well because we've always had chocobos" argument.
Because that is what happens when you learn about formal errors of reasoning and logical fallacies. You stop resorting to such arguments.
How many people are willing to sacrifice some performance to keep it the same as it is now though?
Sure 2.0 should have better latency all around but the lag will still be there if the data center stays in Japan only.
One of the biggest complaints about FFXIV 1.0 is the lag in everything we do as a whole. I am not entirely sure what people are trying to get done here; I thought we all wanted to minimize lag as much as possible and yet here we are complaining about data centers that will reduce lag.
This is confusing.
I'm also confident they knew this would upset a lot of people, and that's why they took so long to truly explain what they meant by multiple data centers.
They are not catering to the current audience, which is rather small compared to what's expected to become after 2.0. Outside players don't give a shit about a one world system, since they have never experienced it, so our complaints are probably useless.
