This has nothing to do with neurodiverse people as a whole.
If anything it preys on mount collectors, but there are any number of reasons for people to be into that.

It's not about defending a cash shop per se but acknowledging that game development have skyrocketed over the last decade and publishers aren't going to simply make less to compensate. The consumer will be eating some of those costs, be it through micro transaction or an increase in the base price of the game and/or subscription fee. The reason I'll mostly shrug off a non-intrusive cash shop is it's an entirely optional. Yes, I'll miss out on some outfits or mounts I may have wanted unless I flash my credit card but I'll also avoid paying more elsewhere. I'd much prefer a $14.99 sub fee and $59.99 for an expansion compared to say, $24.99 and $99.99. They are going to make their money somehow. It just comes down to how.
Alternatively, everything on the cash shop will just cease to exist as it's being made exclusively for a profit. So if you'd rather all those Korean glamours or mounts like Shadow Keeper or Cruise Chaser simply never be made. That's what will happen.
Now don't confuse this with me defending SE. I can say all the above while also saying the cash shop has gotten quite excessive this expansion. Likewise, I think it's a little scummy event items are tossed on the Mog Station when they were free at some point. I just opt not to buy what I don't want and indulge on what I do.
Oh but it does, and there is extensive academy study on the topic if you care to learn.
Some times, many times, less is more. This is one of those times. Specially if the practice is unethical.
No gil from microtransactions go into game-development, not even marketing.
And it comes from unethical practices, like predating on neurodivergent people and exploting fear of missing out or loss aversion from people.
It is 1 to 1, the same exact market model of a drug cartel.
Wait, are people actually defending microtransactions? Remember when this shit was thoroughly mocked, especially in a purchased game or a subscription MMO? Horse armor? Celestial steed? Hello?
Corporations are not your friend. I do not care if they make epic banger tweets and act “young and hip” during press conferences. You are a human. Square Enix is an entity that encourages you to give up your money. Perhaps if people in 2023 had better self-control, this wouldn’t be a problem. But that’s not the case. Most people here are victim of a generation and a world-system that raised them to squander and spend all they can because it benefited those in control.
No matter how much you defend MTX on the forums, it’s not gonna make your game cheaper and it’s not gonna give you more content. The suits aren’t going to give you “the reach-around” other than to put even more junk on the cash shop to wave around like a carrot on a stick. Stop degrading yourselves.
All you truckers and your high and mighty corporate this and corporate that are still paying a trucking sub. so truck off! Buy it dont buy it! But dont tell me how to spend my trucking money!
I really do wish Micro transactions went away, caused so many problems.
DLC Expansions to me is like the only acceptable thing.
Isn't a mount just a skin for an existing skill/mechanic? There are over 200 mounts, and last count, I think 43 of them are Mog Station purchases. Soooo...like 3/4 of all mount skins ARE obtainable in game, by playing the game? And all the paid_for mounts are purely cosmetic. They have nothing whatsoever to do with QoL, character power, cheating the game or making it easier, etc.
This mount is a skin. Period. It has no other value beyond "I WANT THAT!!" Exactly nothing in the game changes other than people can look at you on that mount and know that you spent $24 on a skin. OK? And? It's still just a skin.
Maybe I am missing why this is a big deal?
This is a little bit disingenuous. I mean, yes- we can absolutely talk about the predatory nature of micro transactions and what is or isn't fair regarding prices/types of items available.
BUT, it is hardly unusual for a variety of businesses to add extra purchases:
Disney has a paid-for fast pass system. Disney also has seasonal, limited-edition items you can buy.
Cruise ships have additional fees for excursions, etc.
If we're going purely digital- my local hospital charges for wi-fi and/or using cable TV on a per-day basis.
Amazon Prime has many movies/shows locked behind additional fees.
We don't have to like these things, and I would agree there should be more outrage for some of this stuff (like wtf Disney, $100 per person just to enter, plus $5-15 for a one-time-use line skip???)..
BUT, again, it isn't fair to compare this to drug addiction.
It's all mogstation? Astronaut meme: "Always was"
Quality is a big deal for me, name one mount that is better than this mogstation one. Because I can't since Al-iklil from Bozja 2-3 years ago.
Since then we have Cruise Chaser, Giant Shiba, Paissa, etc. If people enjoying getting thrown stupid reskin onions, magicked children's bed after paying for sub and box game price, congrats you are stupid and love being bullied by a giant corporate.
Aerodynamics system, fenrir, anden 3, battle lion/bear/panther/tiger, black pegasus, all dogs, ponies, black jack, cloud mallow, demi ozma, garland gl-II, gobwalker, island madragoras, Ixion, logisticks node and system, Megaloambystoma, Miw Miisv just to name a few
One of my favourites is actually falcon with it switching into 3 different modes.
Fenrir is also a model from ARR so it's inevitable that it will be lower quality than one produced for late Shadowbringers.
I don't think exact quality is as important as liking the look of the mount. The Shadow Wolf might be high quality but it's also ugly to me so the quality is irrelevant.
The problem with basing an argument off of "quality" is that it's largely down to personal preference. I think the Shadowkeeper mount is ugly as sin, personally. And not, like, in a good way, like the Cavalry Drake.
There are way more in-game mounts that I like more than the mog station ones. Rathalos, Construct 14, Ixion/Phaeton, Silkie, Model O, Amaro... just some of my favourites. I'm not sure what your obsession with Shadowkeeper is, but I think you're really plugging your ears and yelling "LA LA LA" at the mere mention of good free mounts which is... weird.
If you want a mog station mount so much, buy it. If you don't want to pay $x for it, then clearly you don't like it as much as you think you do.
The state of FFXIV players/community, supporting awful practice from giant company to stroke their own ego and feel proud of their stupidity. Pathetic losers these players are lmao.
Ok, I'll try this one better, name one mount that is better than this mogstation ones (Cruise, Paissa, Shiba, Hound) from the past 2 years.
Can't wait to see the 2-seater Garlond GL-IS will be on Mogstation for the fanfest for only 39.99 Euro. Work work work, there is new mount to buy, no need to play the game anymore!
People supporting these things are so depressing to watch.

edit: Enjoy your "free" magicked child's bed lmao.
Agreeing with Isca the with Alkonost. The the new multi-seater from the Gold Saucer is also neat, not necessarily cute but a stylish four seater for a bunch of MGP is nice. :)
There is also the Chi mount, love it a lot. And the mounts from the EW tribes are also pretty rad and have their own animations/"skills".
(My all-time favourite is still the EW doggo because he is the bestest of bois, but I didn't list him because in the end he's just a glowing doggo with no extra skills or no surreal elements or additional perks.)
Edit: The P8S mount with that transformation feature is also pretty neat. Won't be able to get it before 10.0 or so though because no way am I going to do savage synced. xD
Pretty much this. Just because I understand how SE has decided to run their business doesn’t mean I am buying the things. Not sure why that makes me some kind of white knight or boot licker according to some.
The alternative is the things never existing at all in the first place. I can’t understand how some people think “if I can’t have it, no one can have it” is a reasonable mindset. Like, I’d really love to have a yacht irl …but in my line of work that’s a solid nope.
My favorite mount right now is the Ironfrog Mover, but I have a thing for retro-style robots. It reminds me of things like the old Robo Force toys.

I would love more of that retro-future ascetic. Like that windup toy car minion.
The only mogstation mounts that dont evoke agressive feelings from me are the Fatter cat, Megashiba and old event mounts, those feel like they are where they belong as they are
(Word for the next paragraph: Layered = Glam, for non MH players)
MHR kinda did this with Layered armors, where in MHW only a very select few were DLC or event tied, in MHR they started selling layered armor and layered weapons, and while a lot of people were saying the classic "is just cosmetic dont seethe so much" in Sunbreak more and more people started to realize how this was more about how it set a precedent for microtransactions working within the game
So now, you can safely expect the next monster hunter to release with Day-1 OPTIONAL layered armors, maybe some OPTIONAL sets from older games in the series as DLC, instead of you know... actually getting them in game like it has been in the previous entries?
Its a matter of time before they add a FFXIV battle pass of some sorts, or a new ridiculous monetization, like, for example, the NFTs the SE CEO supports.
"Why so much outrage over a horse armor?", and yet, here we are despite all the warnings
The goalpost got too heavy to keep moving it, he's gonna take his ball and go home now. But he's gonna act really mad about it first.
