Yes, please. Get rid of gender locks again.
Signed! I've spent enough time being locked out of races I found interesting on other games because of gender, I really would not want to have to experience it here. As a female player, I only want to play as a female character, I just don't have any interest in playing males. While I personally want to play Viera, I just don't want gender locking of any form to exist in this game, thank you!
Signed because equality of the races! If we get bunny boys, we should get badass lionesses.
I don't support the genderlocking of any playable race. Please let the players decide what they want to play as.
Despite me not planning on switching, I think we really do need female/male Hrothgar/Viera.
Even though i'm staying Au Ra, i really like both the new races, and i am completely okay with them being gender locked at first as long as we get them eventually :)
Not my cup of tea (moar catgrils), but I support this.
Pop'n in here to show support for this !
Beefy Hrothgar GF's!!
For all those cute couples that love to make cute ships of the same race! Doesn't matter how logn it takes, as long as we know it's something that is considered to be done at some point, I'm glad!
Never understood the idea of gender locking races. Even when the lore is considered, they have changed/ignored it before (looking at you male miqo).
Some people want to be able to play a beastly looking race, they should also be given the option for male and female.
Posting in support of no gender locks! Also, I think a beastly female would be a unique addition to character creation.
Thank you yoship and dev team!
Yes please. :c
Listen, I'm mostly on the M!Viera wagon (that's what I'd personally play, given the option) but by God I would have so many female Hrothgar alts. Buff, beefy tiger-furry chicks who could and would fully step on me given the opportunity? Yes please. I'll take twelve.
I even have friends who've said they'd resub to the game if female Hrothgar were a thing. Sure, they'd probably be a minority race the way Roegadyn women are, but the Roegadame community is extremely devoted to their little niche and I'm sure Hrothgals would be just as loyal and glad to have their space.
Yes to cheetara!!
If I had to choose between male Viera and female Hrothgar I would choose the Viera, but here we are with Hrothgar / Ronso who DO canonically have females and yet they're nowhere to be seen. My wife (who casually plays on a Free Trial currently) was visibly disappointed when there were no female Hrothgar. She likes her Mi'qote, but she prefers to look cool over looking "cute", so being a lioness warrior was a very appealing idea to her (that is currently shut down). In other games we play together she frequently plays a strong warrior-type character, so being a "pretty cat person" wasn't ideal for her. She also didn't care for the Roegadyn's looks (particularly the faces) and thought the Lalafell weren't "cool", and the problems she had with the Mi'qote carried over to Hyur and Elezen. I'm having a hard time getting her to play simply because she doesn't like how she looks - especially during cutscenes.
The North American market has largely had games with intensive character personalization at its core. Limiting personalization options is hurting the chances of bringing more North American gamers into the fold because if they don't see something to play they like it becomes more of an "I dunno, I guess" rather than I "I want to try out my _____!" Square Enix is doing well having most of its customization options be unlockable through gameplay and achievements, but they need to be considerate of their audience and be more inclusive so that more people are drawn in rather than turned off to the game when they see they can't play what they want. "Lore" may be a satisfying reason to some hardcore fans, but hardcore fans alone will not keep the game afloat - there needs to be broader appeal and it's hard to explain "lore" to a new player on the character selection screen who's already becoming disappointed with the game because they can't be who they want to be. FFXIV is great, but choices like this will hurt the game's longevity - not help it.
Just signed up to voice that I would love female Hrothgar. I always gravitate towards the stronger/more ferocious female characters in games, I am a newer player of FF14 but my intention was to have a female Roegadyne alt. I would instead have loved to make a female Hrothgar alt, I am very interested in being able to do this one day, please add female Hrothgar!
I would totally love to see both male viera and female hrothgar added at some point, that would be awesome
Signed, but can we not have the Hrothgar slouched over?

Personally I've never played much of the other FF titles beyond 14, 11, 9, and a bit of tactics but, from what I've understood Ronso had their own female counterparts. I do enjoy the idea of a more unique shape that Hrothgar bring to 14 but... I feel as if the Male only implementation is rather poor. While there are slightly more burly female body types in 14, Hrothgar females would bring an entirely new dynamic for role playing, adventuring, and armor. Beyond that, a bit more representation of those body types would do a lot in encouraging other members on the LGBT spectrum as they could play their either preferred body type or actual one.
Beastmen were a fantastic concept to add to Shadowbringers, but with the genderlocks to each race it feels as if FF14 (consciously or not) is reinforcing stereotypes rather than bringing more options to the table. I really want to see some lovely, cuddly, strong Beastwomen too!
I also think female Hrothgar would satisfy a lot of the people who wanted that more fierce demonic looking female Au Ra concept art but didn't get it.
As much as I love my femroe I would die for something a little more bestial and more burly. Female Hrothgar would have me lining up for a fantasia the day they drop.
Adding my voice to this as well!
Yes to female Hrothgar!
Basically gonna copy/paste my reply concerning male Viera, since the same fits here. I support adding female Hrothgar for a couple of reasons:
- It's an additional customization option for an already-existing playable race, so it wouldn't qualify as "adding another race"
- It harkens to the time of ARR release, where they made it a point to round out each race, so female Highlanders and Roegadyn became a thing (along with male Miqo'te)
While I realize I'm not presenting any sort of new and/or powerful argument for them, that's mainly due to anything I would've argued has likely been brought up numerous times within this thread.
Let us have our Thundercats RP! :p
This also needs to be supported :) in the mr happy interview it sounds like they got rid of the idea for female because of the people demanding viera for so long.
who cares. they put in a lot of work to make one. if they cant get it done anytime soon. its ok. we are grown ups. lets act like it and stop acting like this is really a big deal.

Yoshi Answers in the first questions. (thanks SoulEchelon)
I'm all for adding female Hrothgar, not only because im against gender locking in general, but because i want players to have options on who they get to play as. Seeing as females were in FF10, i was shocked to hear that only males would be playable. I hope that this plea from the fans will be enough to sway the higher ups for approval, for both races.
Please, consider introducing Female Hrothgar to the game. Many players, and myself included, would be thrilled to see a female counterpart to the Ronso analogues for this franchise. My concerns are that they would be given the female Au Ra treatment, but I want to believe that if you ever have the resources to consider making Male Viera, you will also consider making Female Hrothgar, and design them to actually look like they are of the same species as the men. Thank you.
/Signed for both gender locked races.
To the Dev team: I may not fully understand why you did not make male and female of both races, but I wont question your decision. You made a call you clearly felt you needed to make and I respect that. However, I would like for you to consider adding in male Viera and female Hrothgar in the future. I have always been against gender locking races since I started playing MMOs. Here are a few reasons why:
1: It is to a degree unfair to the playerbase. Here is this wonderful race, fresh out of the design box, new animations and hairstyles and...oh wait you can only play it as female (just for example). If you only feel comfortable playing male characters, this is a huge disappointment. You've been marketed a new race. The devs show promotional materials and get you excited only for you to not be able to play it due to gender. It feels wrong and disheartening. The next question is why? Why can't I be this race? Then frustration sets in. Now what should be an exciting reveal for everyone is unfortunately tainted. I know I felt my hype deflate when I found out this news.
2: Variety. I have and always will be a huge fan of variety. It is the spice of life and in MMOs it's what sets one game apart from the next. What are the first two things people want to know when they look to play an MMO? What classes can I play and what races. If any of those are hindered based upon gender, you end up alienating a huge portion of the fanbase. When we first learned about Viera and there were speculations on Hrothgar, I knew what I wanted most of all in the next expansion was to be torn between playing a female Viera, male Viera, or a female Hrothgar. I wanted to have to make those decisions so badly. To me, the mark of a great game is having so many good options you almost don't know where to start. FFXIV does that well in so many aspects that I hope we will eventually see male Viera and female Hrothgar.
3: Personal Fantasy. MMOs for many are about creating your own personal fantasy. Whether your character is an extension of yourself or your own hero you like to see succeed everyone wants their character to look a certain way. Hrothgar for instance gives a great option for people who want to be cat people but more burly then Miqo'te. Viera is perfect for people who want to be tall and lean and beautiful but not Elezen. I understand that one would think more common fantasies would be the tall beautiful bunny woman and the large muscular lion man but we all know how varied the FFXIV fanbase is. There are many who want to be tall pretty bunny men and muscular lionesses. Of course I have no data on such things but perhaps it is a good idea for SE to gather data on it.
Thank you for your time. I do want to thank you very much for Viera and Hrothgar. I think they look wonderful and cannot wait to see them in game. Take care and make sure Yosh-P gets some sleep.
I just wanted to add my support to this thread! I've wanted a less human race in FF14 for so long! So long!! And while I'm still excited for the Hrothgar we're getting... that they're men-only is disappointing. I mean, I still have a lady alt character I play regularly, and she's cute! But that's the thing! All the female races... are cute in some manner, haha. Sometimes you want to be beastly and cool, you know?? And also sometimes still be able to wear the skirts and whatnot you can't wear on your main. :(
I've been showing my support for no gender locked races in general--not just Hrothgar--by posting every day in the Gender Locked Race? thread. I'm posting here as well to give my tenacious support.
I would be excited to see female Hrothgar in game! I was sad to see not only male Viera but very disappointed in the fact that there was no female counterpart for a really beast like race like Hrothgar.
+1 vote for supporte female Hrothgar in canon!
I agree with the original poster.
Realm Reborn got rid of gender lockouts.
Why start now? :(
Personally I they female Hrothgars would be sexy and interesting to see. Plus like i said in support of the male Viera, gender locks shouldn't be a thing for a game I'm paying a sub for. I really wanted to see how the male Viera would look and I wanted to FINALLY change up my character. Back to the point though, NO GENDER LOCKS. We are better than this guys.
As I stated in the Male viera thread please SE keep the viera and hrothgar genderlocked I feel it gives those races more uniqueness that way.
