It's because Crystal DC has a lot of small servers.
But a lot of people used the free transfer period to go back to Aether and Primal too.

The people who wanted to bail on Crystal did so during the free transfer period, which is long since over, and their houses already purchased by other players. There weren't more than a handful of houses still available a week after the free transfer period ended and that had people alarmed.
It's auto-demo finally being activate again for 45 days that has freed up the current available houses. The number available right now is still far less than it was last October before auto-demo was suspended and we're already watching it decrease again.
Our populations on Crystal are growing, not decreasing.
Any particular reason you're going out of your way trying to imply that Crystal is failing as a data center just because of housing numbers? Because I assure you we're doing just fine.
If he was just curious, why didn't he ask "Why do those worlds have so many available houses when other worlds are full?" instead of assuming a reason for it and then using loaded language when stating his assumed reason?
Yeah, it's not simple curiosity. Players on Aether worlds have been taking potshots at Crystal since it was added. Getting pretty tiresome.
Crystal is a new datacenter. Two of the highest population servers are on Crystal by the way while others are fairly low pop but with WT now that's not necessarily a bad thing. One can buy a house on a low pop server and travel to the others without restriction. It's still very difficult to buy housing on either Mateus or Balmung (which is one of the few servers locked to new character formation). Hopefully some of the restrictions will be lifted for WT like checking your mail and joining linkshells among others. We'll have to wait and see how that goes.
There were quite a few transfers to Aether during the free transfer given that datacenter is perceived to be more raid focused and as such many either created alts on Aether or moved a character there. It remains to be seen how Crystal stacks up as a raid/duty focused datacenter with the arrival of 5.0. I have a level 70 WHM on Blamung and will be leveling her to 80 when the time comes.

Lucky Bancho Active Character Statistics
Fun aside, this is an uptick of 412,000 from the last census on February 10th. Between returning players and new players, XIV has nearly doubled its active character population going into Shadowbringers. Of course, this number will inevitably drop as people lose interest but it remains the highest total XIV has ever mustered.

A lot of people I know consider Crystal a dead datacenter, for everything outside RP. Raiding /end game content ETC mostly because of Balmung. I know several who gave it a chance and jumped ship. Housing otherwise wouldn't be a good metric for this since a lot of people tie housing and RP together.
Now with the new server Spriggan on Chaos DC house market changed these are the census of the day after the new server open:

So on the new server there is still the invisible timer even though they are new?
Oh, thanks for the info! I just love Spriggan as a name for server but sadly I’m in the US. :(
And yet what data center came up with the largest population in the latest Lucky census?
Crystal.
If all people care about is raiding then yes they're going to consider Crystal dead. It's very lively in other aspects of the game, though. The game world doesn't revolve around raiding nor does the data center revolve around Balmung.
Again, Crystal is doing just fine.
Actually Raiding/questing/msq completion etc is the core of the game. If you like RP, Crystal I'm sure is great. But to many stories of people trying to RP in dungeons and ruining the run etc have driven people who *actually* play the game as intended away. Hence the reputation as a dead data center. You haven't really countered the argument just reinforced it. If you like the way Crystal is, thats fine. But don't get defensive because other people consider it dead for what the game is actually built around.
Yup. Look at Aether and primal as of right now. https://i.imgur.com/l7v4CG0h.jpg If Crystal is so full then why are all the preferred NA servers on Crystal? Looking at this census thread the most housing is also always on Crystal. There is a reason FCs and people left Crystal datacenter and left their housing there. They keep transferring to Aether and Primal. And it's true, a lot of people on Balmung / Mateus have alt toons that's why the population seems so high.
I personally was on Crystal datacenter on my alt toon and I moved that to Primal after a week of horrible duty roulette. Goblin itself was absolutely fine and lovely, I really liked my FC as well. I know they did farms and had a raid group. But for queue times, they were high, people spammed emotes / macros in dungeons instead of actually dpsing or healing, and I finally quit when this dps from Balmung was harassing me in Aurum Vale. While he was dying to aoes and our whm (also from Balmung) was RPing, this dps was typing toxic things in chat. Crystal might be ok in the future but while I was there I had an absolutely horrible time, especially compared to when I log on to my main character. People who are already on Crystal with formed FCs and formed raid groups will be fine because they're not affected. People who pug and do random roulette are probably the ones leaving, like I did.

Before the NA data center change happened, what were the preferred NA servers?
Brynhildr
Coeurl
Diabolos
Goblin
Malboro
Zalera
Those names look familiar? SE bundled up every preferred world in NA and stuck them all in Crystal along with Balmung and Mateus. Is it really any wonder that the only remaining preferred worlds in NA happen to be worlds that were preferred in the first place?
Did I ever state that Crystal was full? No, I said Crystal was fine. If people were abandoning Crystal in droves like some of you have been trying to imply, then all 6 of the worlds that were preferred before the data center change should still be preferred. Instead only currently 3 are. The population here has grown whether you guys want to believe it or not, just as the population has grown on the worlds in Aether and Primal.
Ask yourselves why you're so obsessed with the population on Crystal when you don't play here. What does it matter to you when it's got nothing to do with your queue times or party finder listings? Maybe stick to worrying about what's going on in your own data centers instead of taking pot shots at another one.
If we are as low pop as you're implying, at least we'll be getting to play the game next week while you're stuck in neverending queues. Enjoy!

Also from you in this thread yesterday - Other preferred worlds that were preferred before and after the datacenter split: Midgardsormr, Siren, Lamia, Hyperion, Famfrit, etc on both Primal and Aether. There's the census you're referring to in your comment yesterday about Crystal being high pop, and then there's what square enix themselves have announced today for preferred, standard and congested servers. You yourself said Crystal datacenter has highest population when in aether you can't even make a character on any server at peak times and it has 5 congested worlds, not 1. No wonder there's no housing available in aether. https://i.imgur.com/l7v4CG0h.jpg
And going back to counting houses in this thread - Famfrit today had 5 small in lav beds, 2 in Mist, a couple in Goblet. No mediums. The plots from the big demo day are getting snatched.
Those worlds you list definitely were standard worlds before split, see
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...dcf46648031b74
(changes as of Jan 2019, which was the last change to world status for NA servers prior to the data center re-organization), and
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...bf5eb4f6a9f9c2
(changes in Sept 2018, which had been change previous to January's).
All the preferred worlds in NA at the time the data center reorganization occurred went to Crystal as I stated. It was something that many people commented on in the weeks between the announcement of which worlds would be on which data center and the change occurring because it felt strange that all the preferred worlds were being placed together in the same data center instead of spread out across them all.
Were some of those worlds you listed made preferred in May when they made the post-split adjustments? Yes. SE was still trying to achieve some balance in world populations at that point and it appeared they were trying to do it by data center instead of across the entire region. Every data center had 1 congested world, 2 or 3 preferred worlds and 4 or 5 standard worlds designated until the new change this week.
That Crystal is the only data center that still has preferred worlds left does not mean that Crystal is losing players. It just means that Aether and Primal have picked up more of the new and returning players than Crystal did. Populations here are still very healthy, which is what I've been trying to point out.
Crystal is fine.

Hi Everyone,
I just transferred to the Goblin server but the housing market is pretty congested here too. Would anyone kindly direct me to a server where I can easily buy a plot without running into bots or competition?
Sadly.. bots are everywhere. I lost a few homes this week on Balmung due to botters. I reported them as did other people who where there trying earnestly and guess what? Nothing happened -.-; Pretty disappointed tbh. I guess it's legal to use bots since nothing happens to people doing it..
