Some of them were awesome, the axe and sword were my favorite. Hopefully the armor will be awesome also.
This is definitely cooler looking than the last sword I got from Ifrit.

I don't think they screwed up at all. It would be the complete opposite. This is just my opinion. ^^;
Do what I do with pony sigs and use Ad block plus (if you use firefox) or some other adblocking extension for your browser. You can block individual images using it.
Personally PP's sig doesn't bother me. I've gotten used to over-sized sigs while being in this forum.
This is the part where this thread starts derailing.
Though I'm not a fan of all the weapons equally, overall I think they did a good job.
I've seen some players post comparisons to other weapons and gear in other MMOs and quite honestly they look more different than they do similar. The weapons and armor from the other MMOs glow dramatically like flashy lights in a nightclub; like they're trying to get a 5 y/o's attention - "oooh! flashy-glowy light!!!". The weapons in the video from this thread, however, have a glow effect that resembles hot embers in a fire - it's a pretty organic look to them, and considering what boss you're fighting it's rather appropriate for the context.
Sure, some of the styles of the weapons may be more attractive than others (or more unattractive), but to deduce that they're flat out "bad" simply because of the perceived similarity between older, more obnoxious MMOs, is pretty close-minded.
Good job on the new stuff so far SE; can't wait to see more.
It's not about the graphic. It's about a perceived change in the art direction of FFXIV. I am worried that this is the first step in the direction of WoW-absurd-style art direction.
I'm fine with the embers-style textures, although it could be dimmed a little bit more.
What I really take issue with is the OMGWTF huge size of the horns on the weapons that makes it seem out of place.
i like the sig, they're 3 gorgeous models. not looking at them should be a crime
/quit game, delete from hard drive, go home and be a family man.Quote:
No.
If I see glowing armor, that's the last straw. EVERY single Ifrit-related weapon/armor asset is going to get DAT Swapped on my end, because I refuse to put up with that horribly over-designed ***.
Yes, I said it. Because for *** sake, Square SCREWED this up.
One player will not be missed.
You cant convince me that youre staying for square enix's sake
Well look at it this way: It could attract more players to the game who are actually fans of the style WoW has (there are millions of them).
This is progress.
Sometimes you have to make a few sacrifices down the road (like losing players such as yourself) in order to make progress.
HOWEVER, this could just be a one-off thing considering this is gear dropped from Ifrit and Ifrit, as we all know, is a glowy red thing. It only makes sense for his drops to be glowy red.
The same will go for probably all primal gear, it will match the theme of the monster.
Something tells me we'll just be seeing weapons from the primals.
Yes they won't appeal to everyone but they are aiming at what has been statistically proven to draw consumer's in, if they lose a few in the process they won't mind if in the end they get the audience they are aiming for.
This style of artwork - Design is NOT the WoW style Design, wth are you ppl blind?
Actually, I see a net loss. Square has been losing people in the past. And I know five people who will not miss FFXIV if this current direction continues.
Sadly, you cannot satisfy everyone. I'll just resort to DAT swaps then, to get rid of the horribadly-designed weapons. That way, I don't have to see people standing in the middle of Ul'dah in Active Mode showing them off.
But don't be surprised if I end up leaving by year's end. It's just kind of getting tiresome watching this.
I think the weapons look awesome, and if you dont like em, dont use em. They look to me like typical FINAL FANTASY weapons that I've come to expect over the years. Dont look at Cloud's Ultima Weapon. Same for Atma Weapon in FFVI. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/U...Weapon_(Weapon)
Glowy weapons, oh no!
My personal favourite is that Axe. <Goes to level MRD quicktime.>
I like them for the most part, and don't see quite how they are breaking anything artistically. As for a more subtle glow, any more subtle and they wouldn't be glowing at all. It's not as if these were garishly flaring as in some other mmo's. But then, I guess that is Silver's point; any glow at all is verboten. Frankly, I don't agree, and wouldn't even mind armor based off this look. As log as it doesn't venture into the extreme like in the examples placed early on, I can't see it being a screw up.
I doubt it, to be honest the only weapon I'm not fond of is the bow. Not because it's large, only because the top is bigger than the bottom.
Lets face it, this game NEEDS a little pizazz in the gear and weapons. Wearing the same model in different colors for 50 levels has gotten REALLY old. Sure they might be a tad large, but honestly nothing so over the top that it deserves an "OMGWTFDATSWAP" kind of response you seem to be having.
The weapons aren't going to turn the game into WoW 4.0, so just chill out and let the devs have a little artistic freedom over their own creation.
I'm fine with those designs, perhaps the Pugilist and Archer weapons should be remade, though.
Pugilist and thaumatourge for me, the bow looks AWESOME!
Actually I think all pugilist weapons need a resize... people are just complaining about the size of ifrit's fist? All the HtH look overly large on my character I look at them and think if I punched something with those they would rotate toward me and I would be striking with my barefist...
See, I'd be fine if it were a subtle aetherial glow on a silver excalibur-style sword design, as if it were swirling around the blade, rather than a garish glow.
Now, in the design of the Ifrit weapons, I really would have preferred to see the glow effects reduced by a couple thousand K's (Kelvin, for those who are familiar with lighting dynamics), and it'd still be noticeable, but not so much that it becomes a distraction.
It's really not the glow I'm complaining about in general but the fact that the inclusion of the horn design as major functioning components of the weapons, and the fact that they are oversized, are things I take issue with. Like I've been saying in the past, for the Ifrit bow, I would have gone with using the horns as a handguard.
Here's a description of how it would look like: Let's take the model of Kokoroon's Nestpicker, replace the metal plates with Ifrit's horns, cut in half along the middle, and the halves mounted where the metal plates are. They glow, too, in the same way the video shows.
Tah-dah! Properly functional bow with Ifrit decor that LOOKS sensible.
Using the horns themselves to mount the string seems...weird. There's no "rebounding tension" at all, except in the string - and we all know strings on a bow are NOT supposed to "stretch".
Because Final Fantasy isn't known for oversized weapons or armor?
