I mean, the man is still the art director of FFXIV isn't he? Concepts such as these not only look great, but they fit in with Eorzea's style in my opinion.

I'd bet a lot of those would fit with the general idea of Ishgard, which is an order of religious zealot knights apparently.

Of course we still have Sharlayan and Ala Mhigo left, so there could be some more interesting fashions present there.

More hairstyles for FFXIV would also help to achieve these looks as well. Honestly most of the female hairstyles look pretty drab.

Hi Bayohne,

There are several things i would love to see. Here is a short list:

1. Gender specific gear: By this i mean designs tailored more to male or female. A good example of this would be buisness suites. By this i mean both are the same yet designed to better fit a male or female frame.

2. Race specific gear: Each of the races are differnet, so it would make sense that they would have different tastes in style and fit.

3. Clan specific gear: During character creation you are given a detailed description of each clan. From these descriptions you can tell they are different. So it only makes sense that these differences would spill over into tastes in clothes and armor.

4. City state specific gear: Each of the city-states is distinct and different. Not only in climate but in culture, So it would seem this would lead to different style armor and clothing.

5. Linskshell customizing: Not sure this is the right topic for this. But i think it would be awesome to be able to customize armor and clothing with link shell colors or logos. The best example i can think of for this would be linkshell colors and patterned represented on shields. (Note: This could also apply yo citystate and grand company colors and logos being placed on shields.)

One final thought. It would also be nice if when switching gear you could make it where when you switch jubs it switches your armor to a pre-selected set of gear you have choosen for that job.

That will require some geometric reshaping of the character models.

It can be done, though!

More girlish clothing for mages. 8D Ones that end at the knees. Difference in how clothing looks, no matter if it's unisex. Even if robes are both m/f some distinguishing characteristic like in Scholar's men's shirts were un-tucked, while the women's were tucked into the skirt.

Something that goes away from high fantasy in some respects...

I guess, over all, a little more use of texture while also continuously adding to the current fabric/leather choices. So far everything's rather barbaric with the use of skins, but there are not many, or no, uses of fancy textiles.

While making gear that's unique to a class is important, ie AF armour, it's not too much to ask to have unique looking gear?

A poor example maybe as it's based around Scholar's AF, But this is a lovely vest, and I see that Galka has fur around his. Those would be excellent details to add to future gear.

Nomura's style has some wonderful possibilities too. If you want to wear boring and uninspiring, that's cool. I don't particularly want gear ridiculously over the top, but detailed gear does not = bad gear or that it shouldn't be considered for future gear. Elegant, but fitting for the environment kind of gear can be eye-catching as well as fit players desires for more original garb.

There are lots of interesting / fun ideas floating around on this thread. Ultimately I think we should leave it in the hands of the Art Director to make sure it fits within the world of Final Fantasy XIV (and not end up with a giant mish-mash of Artistic Styles from 20 different Movies, Games & Anime). ;)

Ultimately, though, I'd be interested to see what the FF 14 Art Team can come up with on their own. Hopefully something more exciting and interesting than what we have now (no offense, but the best Mage Gear, like Harlequin Armor Set and Vintage Robe just look... boring and ugly in my opinion). :(

Honestly, I just want class-defining armor. Sexier would definitely be nice, but I also want to be able to tell myself apart from the numerous other leather wearing classes out there. It's also quite depressing to see everyone and their mother wearing hauberks. I actually feel like a unique snowflake wearing bowman gear.

I think there are several sexy versions of items that females get. I would really like to see more feminine items like hair bands, flowers, and things like clips and pins. Idk about 'sexy' but i'd like girl oriented items like dresses, matching shoes, tank-tops, and more or less casual looking items.


IMHO items like the coatee and mini skirt/tights Bottoms are a bit much. Although i do welcome items like that too. Makes the game a little less kiddy and more adult. ^^

I know it was almost 10 page ago, but this is something similar to what I was describing. Hugs the torso/waist and flows at the bottom.

Have you ever seen an Elezen use the offhand tool on Alchemist (I'm pretty sure that's the class) wearing one of those coatee's? Leaves nothing for the imagination, that's for sure!

Exactly, i genuinely like those items, but when i see/wear them i can't help but feel sorta cheesy.

I trust Akihiko Yoshida's art direction, he's never steered me wrong and I'm a fan of all of his work from Tactics Ogre on. He has shown a great range in design, though. I think right now the armor is more FFXII-Judge style heavy armor, but some Vagrant Story or Ashe-esque stuff (or a slightly less extremely short miniskirt, at least) would be quite cool. Basically, I guess I'd just like to see more of the large spectrum of design we've seen from him in the past, as the armor in the game is more practical (but still quite good looking) and not as fantastic as you might expect in a fantasy game, especially an FF game.

Then again, let's keep in mind about all MMOs start out with fairly basic looking gear and slowly ramp up the range and intricacy of design as the armor artists apparently want to find their niche and improve on what's been done before. I guess the best we can ask for is patience.

By the way, I'm a guy but I've been dragged swimsuit shopping enough to know that those bikinis for the summer event are actually quite cute, never mind how sexy I think they look. I think a general style that balances sex appeal, practicality and cuteness is the best way to go for a fantasy MMO. I do wish I got some regular swim trunks for my elezen, but hey, the ladies need some fanservice too I guess.

I don't need sexy stuff, but cute clothes and acessories would be nice :D

All I want is cute or beautiful stuff for females, I don't need anything too revealing though.
I remember a game where you could adjust the breast size to be bigger then your head, and also how much of it was revealed by clothes, leading to mainly prepubescent boys playing female characters while j***ing off. I don't want to see something like that happen here.

What I want are frills and flowers and ribbons x)

If you give people any kind of freedom of course they're going to abuse it. The problem is that without something like proportion adjustments people still complain about not being able to make their character the way they want or feeling less attached to their character because there's less customization. People complained about it in this game, people complained about it in DC Universe.

These are the type of armors i'd like to see in this game. Final Fantasy always had the best looking weapons and armors and i hope FFXIV will keep that tradition.

Belts are the shizit! lulu had the coolest FEMALE black mage outfit ever. Which brings back to the desire to have male and female outfits look different in a very visual way. Maybe a female black mage wont look quite like lulu, but not exactly the same as guys.

I'm all for making male/female armor look different from each other, but I simply don't want ANY Nomura influence in XIV. Fans of that nonsense can go play FFX-2 or Dirge of Cerberus or something. For the record Lulu is one of two FFX characters I didn't completely hate (the other is Auron), but yo... those outfits are HORRIBLE. Tidus is the number one offender though. Don't even get me started on FFX-2 and characters like Nooj.

All these people that don't want Final Fantasy in Final Fantasy amuse me.
