[Not angry/upset, just annoyed]
Primal Data Center has been having Monday night issues for the past month or two pretty consistently (and usually right around the same time every week).. in another thread I mentioned that maybe they goofed on the server distribution when they split us into multiple Data Centers with 2.15 ^^; What I do feel bad for is the people that have lost Coil loot but still gotten the lockout for the particular turn because of it.
Vacation over forum buddies. Get back in the game!

i totally get where the OP is coming from. ive only being playing for about a week and a half now and it seems like this game is down for maint. almost every other day. ill be honest its a huge turnoff. if i wasn't going thru my free month right now i can say that i would not be subbing. for a game that has a monthly sub fee, this game sure seems to be down a lot. weather or not its to fix something, a game that has a sub fee shouldn't be operating like this.
however that being said, it is "emergency" maint. if something is an emergency, u don't wait a couple hours to get started fixing something, u start as soon as u possibly can. because its an emergency.
perhaps i chose teh wrong server, since it seems the primal data center is the only one that ever has problems. constantly i might add.
My original post was deleted by a moderator >.> But I said that I can vouch for two other FCs on Hyperion who had the same issues. And long story short OP, look at that. the maintenance only lasted 2 hours and you had a fit over nothing.
See? They're watching. Always watching. Don't ever think they don't see what you're saying.
i could forgive this maintnence woes if i got a vial of phantasia in compensation <3
I don't get all the complaining about maintenance. The NA data center maintenance is done like at 11pm-2am PST usually like last night, or in the morning 8am-10am. Do you really need to play that late at night / early morning? Those are the off hours that very few people. Yes it can be bad if you have a job where you normally play late at night or early in the morning but that isn't the cast for most people.
If that's the case then why even have the language choices at the top of the Duty Finder? The instance servers don't just draw from a single region, they draw from all regions. You don't see alot of people from those other regions probably because the Duty Finder weighs you more heavily against regions that speak your language than it does others. I've been partied with people from Japan and French areas before both pre- and post Data Center restructuring so the instance servers aren't as focused as you seem to believe.
Hello,
We'd like to take a moment to explain a bit about why we announce the Hotfix details at the timing that we do.
The reason we announce details during maintenance, or directly after, is because the maintenance are often focused on fixing bugs. As you can imagine, there are some bugs that we do not want people utilizing and therefore do not want to announce them ahead of time. Due to this, our rule is that we do not announce the content of these types of maintenance until it takes place.
On the other hand, when there is a large scale patch like patch 2.1, we release the information ahead of time and we will be doing the same for patch 2.2.
However, even for these large scale patches, if there are bug fixes that occur at the same time for such things as changes to item buyback prices, or other things related to the economy, we will not be announcing this beforehand and it will be released after the maintenance takes place.
Moving forward we will be looking into ways to improve aspects, but currently we will be announcing patch and Hotfix content based on the above policy.
isn't that the point of "emergency" maintenance?
honestly though they just need to move their servers to some place that isn't choking all the traffic (or get amazon to host their servers or something).
This is my final response regarding this:

The answer to your DF ? is simple. Anyone is free to create a character on any server regardless of native language. So why remove the DF feature.Quote:
The following are the results of the maintenance that occurred on Sep. 3, 2013 from around 5:00 p.m. to Sep. 4, 2013 around 2:10 a.m. (PDT).
-Alleviating Stress on Duty Finder Servers This maintenance has implemented countermeasures to alleviate the stress on servers. Previously, matching took place across all servers in the various region data centers, but following this maintenance, matching will now take place within the selected groups below.
*Japan Data Center
-Group 1
Aegis / Alexander / Atomos / Carbuncle / Chocobo /
Gungnir / Ifrit / Ixion / Ramuh / Ridill / Titan /
Typhon / Valefor
-Group 2
Anima / Bahamut / Durandal / Fenrir / Garuda / Hades /
Kujata / Mandragora / Masamune / Tiamat / Tonberry /
Ultima
*North American/European Data Centers
-Group 1
Adamantoise / Balmung / Cactuar / Diabolos / Exodus /
Goblin / Hyperion / Lamia / Malboro / Moogle / Odin /
Ragnarok / Siren
-Group 2
Behemoth / Cerberus / Coeurl / Excalibur / Faerie /
Gilgamesh / Leviathan / Midgardsormr / Phoenix /
Sargatanas / Shiva / Ultros
Need to get better FC members if they're all leaving over maintenance.
I woke up to all of this?! Made me LOL!
Why is being frustrated about the absurd amount of downtime make paying customers kids? And as far as entitled...your damn straight. If I pay for a service, I expect a service. This game has been down 25 hours since I joined less than a week ago. That is excessive and absurd. We all understand that there will be downtime. But the frequency is off the chart. That is what people are complaining about. It's not like people are complaining about the single 2 hour window this has been down this week and everything has been flawless in between. I have personally experienced stability problems, 90k errors, huge queues, all things you would expect from a launch week.
"Absurd amount" - Like FFXI, this game has the most uptime, handful of hours of downtime compared to the uptime leaves absolutely ZERO reason to complain. What should be complained about, however, is the fact most MMOs and even XI updates much faster than XIV does.
Should have been playing around launch.. There was 25 hours of downtime each day lol
(yes, I know a day is 24 hours..)
That being said, I started thinking about it.. There have been, what, 5 million+ PS4's sold? ARR beta is available to everyone, it's possible there are more people playing beta than there are current subscribers (last number I heard was around 1.3 mil subs).. Seems to me that could lead to the same launch week-type problems we had before.
@Lancia I don't know how you have had 25 hours downtime cause I have been playing too and not seen that much. Also not seeing huge queues. I have also not seen a 90k error since the first few weeks of release.
No need to explain yourselves. If people can't come to that conclusion on their own, they probably don't have the capacity to understand the how's and why's.
Some bugs are critical and threaten the integrity of the host and the data stored therein. Bringing it down to avoid an issue becoming worse or corrupting data (character data. People would be asking for public executions if their character profiles are compromised) is sometimes the best course of action. It's called risk management.
In the first few years of FFXI it didn't update well at all. It was a long process that scanned your files first. If it failed you had to start over with a fresh scan. The update servers were being hammered and would they themselves would begin to fail. This went on for years.
Well I play all the time and not been seeing it. Could it be from poor internet connection or not seeing it on Sargantanas ?
Off topic, this has bugged me for a while. It stated matching for DF by Group, yet as a Sargatanasian, I have DF'd with Balmungers who are in the other group. Methinks it's actually done by datacentre, rather than group.
Please do continue with the exciting on topic comments now. :)
game still laggy for me atm even though servers partially up i'll get back on later
Yes hundreds (or thousands) of people with crappy internet that has been working up til now?
I highly doubt that's the problem.. Not my problem personally as I have hard wired 50MB FiOS connection. Now there has been some other problems with Verizion in particular, but that is another topic entirely.
This is more than likely a data center problem, since it seems there are several data centers experiencing the same problem.
The actual groups were changed in 2.1.

Data centers have been restructured to more evenly distribute server load.
Upon first logging in after installing patch 2.1, you will be prompted to select the data center corresponding to your character’s World. The new data centers and the Worlds belonging to each are as follows:
Elemental
Aegis / Atomos / Carbuncle / Garuda / Gungnir / Kujata / Ramuh / Tonberry / Typhon / Unicorn
Gaia
Alexander / Bahamut / Durandal / Fenrir / Ifrit / Ridill / Tiamat / Ultima / Valefor / Yojimbo / Zeromus
Mana
Anima / Asura / Belias / Chocobo / Hades / Ixion / Mandragora / Masamune / Pandaemonium / Titan
Aether
Adamantoise / Balmung / Cactuar / Coeurl / Faerie / Gilgamesh / Goblin / Mateus / Midgardsormr / Sargatanas / Siren / Zalera
Primal
Behemoth / Brynhildr / Diabolos / Excalibur / Exodus / Famfrit / Hyperion / Lamia / Leviathan / Malboro / Ultros
Chaos
Cerberus / Lich / Moogle / Odin / Phoenix / Ragnarok / Shiva
A data center selection menu has been added to the title screen.
If you have characters on multiple Worlds, please select the appropriate data center for the character you wish to play as before logging in.
If a record of your most recent login still remains, the appropriate data center will be selected automatically.
* Players with multiple accounts will also need to return to the title screen and select the appropriate data center before logging in with a different character.
I agree that there is a crapton of maintenance on this game. However the game is still, in my eyes, fairly new. Hopefully it starts to stabilize or they learn how to fix things without taking so long each time. Two hour emergency maintenance here and there makes sense to me, outside of the normal weekly maintenance. Five and eight hour emergency maintenance every other day does not once a MMO matures.
Just out of curiosity I want to know where people keep getting that number from? You arent the only one that says FFXIV has around 1m+ subs.
When they released numbers some months ago, they said it was 600k active subs. I'm assuming its less than that now.
On topic: Boo maint, boo.
I thought people wanted to distance themselves from XI as much as possible, it's funny they keep bringing how that had its share of problems too as if that really has any point, good thing it's been more than 11 years since that game launched and there's been plenty of technological and server improvements over the years to prevent frequent maintenances like in the old da-oh.
