if you read the other threads you will see there are more players that dont want it so it will never happen either way.

Ok that's very true, in XI noone ever got called a gimp because they didn't gearswap, or get told the were getting rep'd, and certainly every EGLS I knew/was in encouraged people to play however they want, come on those things all happened and I'd like to not see it here.
I'm not saying you can't change gear, I'm saying you can't do it while engaged. By all means carry 2+ sets of gear for different situations, but while your weapon is drawn ya can't change. Which is why I said in an earlier post "Mages gear swap to death since they won't be drawing thier weapons".
In most anime when 2 people are fighting changes occur after a break in the action, it takes them time, and in that time they are vulnerable. You want to gear swap, put up your sword, change your gear, pull it back out; that's still not super real world, and believe me I don't want real world I play for the suspension of the "real" but to maintain that requires some parallels. Mithra don't rest on their tails cause that "gravity" thing would get em.
Your absolutely right though for as long as FF(and any other RPG) has been around, I've only been playing them since NES, people always could change gear in battle. In the turn based(including ATB) it meant sacrificing a turn or more depending on how long ya took in the menus(for ATB w/ active on). So again, put away your sword/shield, take a few shots while you change your pants, then get your weapon back out. It's far from real, but it's keeping in line w/ all FF's except XI.
