Recapture the love of what players though if too many of have left by then and have recommended against others to play it? Something like this isn't going to stop the hemorrhaging Dawntrail started, it's only going to make it worse, and it's certainly not going to give Square-Enix a mulligan if they botch 8.0.

To say nothing of the OTHER openly well-known mods that Square-Enix somehow still isn't going after, once more raising the issue of inconsistency.

If I had to make a top 5 list of "open secret" mods, Mare would be THIRD.

I'd say the parsing thing was way worse because I don't recall having to copy & paste a phrase into my profile for Mare so my Lodestone WOULDN'T get its data scrapped like I had to do with "fflogs-hidden" and "tomestone-hidden".

That's arguably more intrusive/prompts harassment from others, yet there's some in this topic who think ACT is totes harmless while Mare was Satan-incarnate.

Well, you have to remember that some of these same people also legitimately believe that the game will return to a "golden age" and make more money if all the casuals get cast out too, so the delulu is strong.

When a developer turns a blind eye too something they don not approve of. That is a signal too the player, too go silent and vanish like a Ninja. Not beat their chest loudly and screaming look at this like the dev will do nothing.

I think you didn't understand what I meant (or I didn't express myself correctly, English isn't my first language).

I never said that it was going to stop the loss of players. I said that now the game is at its worst since before Shadowbringer, it's the perfect time to do the unpopular things. The loss of Mare isn't going to kill FFXIV but create drama for sure. If we take the hypothesis that it's Square Enix that chose to act against Mare, doing it now is a better idea that waiting the 8.0 and risking a bad buzz during a possibly "good" momentum for FFXIV.

We still don't know, at my knowledge, if it's Square Enix. And if it is we don't know the reasons. Maybe Mare specifically is problematic and all the other well-known "third party software" aren't so they didn't had to act.

I'm surprised no one has brought up the fact that Mare used similar security access as that stalker tool, but also the detail that freely spreading 18+ content in a paid service when credit card companies are refusing to work with businesses that have adult focussed content might be why Mare was taken down.

As this person says, not only are credit card companies tightening their restrictions on adult content, but restrictions on adult content targeted at minors are also being strengthened worldwide (for example, the UK's Online Safety Act).

FFXIV's CERO rating is "C."

Therefore, in order for Square Enix to comply with FFXIV's CERO rating, it is obligated to regulate Mare, which has a mod sharing function and poses the risk of adult mod users sharing adult mods with minors in the game, in order to prevent minors from coming into contact with adult content.

Not only that, adult mod users seem to have no qualms about posting images of obscenely modified FFXIV games on Twitter and Instagram with the tag "#FFXIV."

People who don't play FFXIV would likely assume that images tagged with "#FFXIV" are provided by the official website.

I think the problem with some of you guys. Your getting mad at other ppl play style. Like bruh some of you are not even remotely allowed to judge. Some of you may have been here crying about lvl 100 dungeons being too hard. PPL lost a mod. They did it to themselves thats for sure. Yoshi-p has once , twice , hell even warn ppl 3 times not to let his eyes catch them. But no ppl wanted to be ppl and playing the FAFO game. Look I don't judge I mod games like lolipop chainsaw, hogwarts legacy, Elder scroll. Yet ppl need to realize. READ THE TERMS OF SERVICE. MODDING IS AGAINST TOS. You showed it off, you promoted it, you did the most. Take some responsibility and admit you screwed up. Now ppl being all cheerful believe me you dont get to judge. We all have our play styles. I don't see ppl jumping to learn Ultimate and Savage and constantly complaining about this game. If you modded and got in trouble on game sucks to be you, if your judging ppl for using mods....bruh your pathetic and sad. If the devs tell you not to do something and u decide to get all eyes on you after you do the modding. Then yes I believe u deserve to get ban. Remember mods are like drugs. If you dont wanna get caught dont do it. If your gonna do it remember the consequences of your actions. Again ppl acting like they on moral high horse, get off touch some grass, you really dont have the right to judge another person way of playing after what I seen some of you post on this forum.....spoiler: Its not good at times. So be smart and if your gonna break TOS expect to be living with one eye open.

nah, no game is 100% cheat proof. SE got lazy in backing their own ToS by letting so much stuff slide.
