I caught that on Twitter and listened to it while I was doing some fishing. He makes some good points that HW's lows were very low and its highs were very high. EW is very similar. And at the time, HW's lows got a lot of focus the way that EW's lows are getting focus now. Both expansions also experimented more than others and some of that was successful and some wasn't.

Sounded more like "HW was worse, therefore EW is fine"

Hold on a sec, how are dungeons lobotomized. They are all the same difficulty. Same with ultimates, there is really only one way to do them, even the older ones.

On topic: I feel like people don't know what they want. I thought endwalker was fine, but not spectacular.

I actually think EW is the opposite of HW It doesn't have any highs or lows it's just a mid, very "safe" expansion lol, which is a problem in itself.

Not to say EW or HW is bad, I think both expansions just have completely different issues.

With the elimination of aggro management in ShB, healers don't have to worry about pulling aggro, DPS don't have to worry about pulling aggro, tanks can just press their 2 AoE buttons while pressing some defensive cooldowns while you space out during mob pulls. As an example I guess I can bring The Burn, where I constantly saw people wiping because they didn't know how to take big pulls, the party didn't know how to manage aggro, etcera. There's no dangerous pulls in EW.

As for Ultimates I personally don't have an issue with how brutal the mechanic dance is but I get it, in UWU, UCOB and TEA, you had to position the bosses around, my static at the time came out with different strats than in UPR or UAR, in TOP Omega just barely moved all encounter long. The massive hitbox was there so there was no special high risk- high reward to get uptime, or to go for a quicker speedskill, the only skill expression we had in it was doing it without a healer (which pisses a lot of healers off lol) , so that's what I mean.

This in a nutshell really.

Take the first pull of Akadaemia Anyder, or Bardams, or right back to AV and compare those to anything we have in EW. It's not even close.

It's not even agro alone, the EW dungeons are designed with the utmost caution now. Nothing can be too threatening.

I’m going to say the last pull in zot, but I suspect that may be more an artefact of exactly where it is. Ie the first dungeon after a level skip, before people get shiny new tools. I also don’t think it really holds a candle to eg on content holminster, which I felt hit harder and more interestingly with the furry gremlin slow thing.

Stat squish feels like it has taken the edge off a lot of the formerly fun pulls - mid sushi of violet tides, bardams in general, holminster, both gulg big pulls (to first and to last boss doors). Even the Qitana monke trick pull doesn’t seem particularly risky these days. I don’t think the average df player has improved that much?

Do you folks realize parroting the same sentiment incessantly will not change the opinion of a human that can rub 2 brain cells together? I enjoyed Endwalker. I still enjoy Endwalker. I have been playing this game since launch. I will continue to sub and continue to play Endwalker. Is Endwalker pefect? Nope. It doesn't need to be perfect. FFXIV is still the best MMO on the market by FAR. I hope I didn't shatter to many bubbles. The video that this thread is supposed to be about actually went into great detail why so many systems were terrible in Heavensward. The man had MANY great points and I agree with him.
