Yes. I just gave up trying randoms. I even have some skilled people that I call frequently for moogle / ifrit, which works, but doesn't with Garuda. Why? They don't have the gear. Not fully acc, melded although some are pretty good players for ifrit /moogle standards.

Hello,

I do not wish to sound contrary but I would have to think that your suggestion of needing materia and gear do matters may be slightly incorrect. I too have run a parser. I consistently do 16-18k in damage. And I am not wearing AF (it is ugly). I am often wearing sub-par weak unhelpful equipment that children in the street point to and laugh saying 'you BLM in that.. lol' and other things (by 'children' I mean egotistic players who measure their self-worth by how many tripple melds they have).

I further analysed the data and noted some very consistent trends:
1) A lot of BLM miss (or get resisted). This can harm DPS.
2) A lot of BLMs do not do combos (I do not know why!). They do Thunder I -> II, and that's it. (Maybe refusing to do III if II did not land).
3) Very few BLMs make use of Blizzard/Freeze.

So whereas I have seen BLMs in full AF and 'expected' gear do battle, they can sometimes do half of me in my weak/pathetic gear.

Yes, gear helps. What helps more: Understanding how to use all your skills and abilities for the best possible outcome.

1. BLM in full af would assume that they are getting resisted since they don't gear properly.
2. If you bring a blm that doesn't know how to use their spells (lol?) then that is just ya.
3. What? IDK if you are trying to say this is DD or for lowering enmity. Lol on the blizzard and freeze is not a DD spell. So I didn't know what to really think.

I think the point they were trying to make was that knowing the class can go a long way with average gear, compared to have great gear but not knowing how to actually play the class.

You're right. Freeze isn't a DPS skill, but it certainly helps hate control which helps keeping your DPS up.

Let me see if I can understand your points:
1) A BLM in AF is better equipped than me (higher stats, etc).
2) I'm not sure how to respond to this....
3) I am saying that not all BLM realize they even have skills in addition to thunder (such as Blizzard and Freeze or Burst). They can make use of these additional skills when appropriate, and every little helps.

But back to point:
Understanding how to use all your skills is important and moreso than having the best gear and not knowing what to do with it.

What I was trying to say if not being properly geared for something would assume that you aren't at ACC capped since you obviously don't care to be properly geared, hence the resists, and I'm laughing at your combo comment because if you bring a blm that doesn't know how the properly cast 3 spells then wtf.

Its very rare to see well geared people to not know their class.

People are badly geared in the first place because tthey do nnot know their class iin the first place, there aare also badly geared people that THINKS they play better and make that as an excuse of their terrible gear.

You do not nneed double melds on most stuff, people that says that are mostly tthe one that have yet to beat tthe content and use it as an excuse of their either lack of skill , basic raid layout, or party sync.

It's funny to see that people actually think you need UBER GEAR AND SKILLZZ LOLOLOL.
Latency and animation lock would like to have a word with you.

Only problem I seem to have with Garuda is the WHM always dying to AB, so the rest of us get no cures after it in phase 2, meaning we're all dead. BRDs forget to raise or they're flat out dead too.

It's almost as if when Phase 2 happens, everyone immediately drops what they're doing, throw their hands up and start running around, flailing and screaming.
