Will Bot's ever be punished?

gil sellers bot too

but i think a hgue step in the right direction would be for players to stop accepting them into their shells, and stop looking the other way when they catch them in their shell

i know my shell has an extremely strict policy against it, and we arent afraid to give the boot to anyone we find doing it


and its amazing how they act when you confornt them, they act like they are doing nothing wrong even when they admit they are doing it, it just doesnt make sense why they would even want to play a game tha they arent even playing

Auto-Translate needs no maintenance, it gains updates - completely different team. Furthemore, maintaining different servers at different locations (for lag) means hiring different people to do the same job - thus, it is less expensive to have the same crew manage the same number of servers it one location.

Incorrect. The sharing of servers maintains optimal use of servers during entire runtime hours. Your idea of 'downtime' is much smaller on a global net server than a regional one: meaning you're getting more use for less operations money.

Put simply, because the player-base is distributed from peak times, you can host more total players on a server. If you region lock servers, you would have to maintain more total servers because your peak times condense and your server is placed under more concentrated strain.

Reflecting on the previous point: If you have to maintain more servers because your peak times cannot handle the condensed load, then you're having to pay for that additional maintenance. Global Servers are cheaper in this regard as well.

Above assumes multi-lingual linkshells do not and should not exist.
It also assumes all players can and should play only during their specific region's peak times - or should already be in a link-shell fitting with the above restrictions.
Also assumes multilingual people do not exist.
Further assumes players are not a part of multiple linkshells.

And Finally, that statment assumes that I have a philosophy of 'intra-linkshell' market. I do not. I have listed out-of-linkshell examples, you have callously disregarded them. Your refusal to acknowledged these methods does not mean they do not exist.

Red herring. This comment is irrelevant to our discussion, as well as the thread's overall topic.

Pickup groups exist.
Shouts exist.
An economy between players within, outside of , and between Linkshell groups has existed without the presence of an Auction House for the past two years - albeit inefficiently.

This economy will still co-exist with the Auction House after it is implemented, and will serve as an alternative to the more-than-likely RMT dominated Auction Economy. This is of course disregarding the idea that anti-rmt measures are ever put in place in the Auction itself.


However, most importantly: You have no point. You're just arguing semantics for the sake of arguing.

Your skewed and incorrect understanding of the term economy is moot.
Your disagreement of all methods of barter, exchange beyond your narrow view is moot.

Auction house will be out in 2.0, and my point concerning it (The italicized above.) still stands.

Well i'm in a similar boat. I caught a couple linkshell members botting dragonhead the other day but I wont mention their names.

There really isn't anything other players can do other than excommunicate them, which is a bit harsh to be honest.

But I provided an easy to implement anti bot solution: Aggro Mobs. I don't know if you've done any mining in Halatali or Dragonhead as of late but I can guarentee you the reason they bot dragonhead and not halatali is because of agro mobs. A bot cannot stealth and dodge aggro mobs so they bot where there aren't any: dragonhead. I just don't understand why SE didn't patch in some ixali on the way to all the mining nodes like they did with the lalafell assassins in halatali...

no it isnt
they deserve everything they get

and its especialy easy to deal with when they are in your own shell, and you can boot them for it, and then perhaps announce in uldah what they did so others know their crime :D

Player reputation is a way of keeping people clean, that's for sure.

But it's dangerous too - because the mob mentality can be abused against the innocent as well.

There's a Extra Credits episode on Harassment that could really be effective to this point - let me go find it.

I just don't think it's fellow players responsibility to denounce botters. It's the GMs job and the designers should make the game intelligently in a way that prevents botting or stops them in their tracks. It shouldn't be that hard to do as I've suggested...

I have to disagree.

The GM's have a limited scope of the game itself, so much that they had to dedicate a Special Task Force to deal primarily with Botters and RMT, and even then it's reliant on our input.

If we fail in our responsibility to assist such efforts, the ours is not the right to complain about the presence of botters and RMT in the game. We spot them often when the GMs are not there or dealing with other matters.


Improvements can be made both in the community mentality of responsibility, and the active participation and ease of communication with the Special Task Groups. RMT is only going to get more intrusive the more successful the prospects of this game get.

Here is that episode of Extra Credits I was talking about.

In it, it overviews an idea of a "Guild Reputation" meter. This can be done on a personal level as well if needs be, but it would help discourage the idea of Botting as well as Harassment.
