Most of the low-grade EX's that come up in mentor roulette are great places for sprouts to be exposed to content that has extremely basic mechanical requirements. Most ARR Ex's can be explained to a clearable degree in 3-4 messages. If typing a few messages in chat is beyond the effort you are willing to put into being a mentor, you just shouldn't be a mentor.

No but if you can't meet the DPS checks as a DPS you're going to fail.

If the tanks consistently ignore mechanics and die you're going to fail.

If even a few sprouts are vastly undergeared, you're probably going to fail.

Echo only increases numbers. It does nothing for skill or competency and a basic amount of competency is required to start with, along with knowledge of relatively complex mechanics for the EX trial.

Something the large majority of the FFXIV playerbase simply can't handle. It's a harsh truth but it's still the truth.

Look. If you want a blind / unsynced run that's fine. Put up a PF advertising for such and find like minded people who share that goal.

DON'T drag 7 other people unwittingly into your preference and possibly ruin their gameplay experience.

Extreme should be absolutely not be removed from mentor roulette. That's one of the few instances, where people actually need mentors in their party. You don't need a mentor for guildhests.

I agree with you on the changing the mentor icons. The crown typically attracts all kinds of "mentors".

However, players still want prestige, bragging rights, etc. So those mentors with questionable attitudes/playstyles will take the mentor status regardless.

In the past, it has been suggested in the forums, but that request became ignored/fell on deaf ears, so we have the crown to stay for the foreseeable future.

It if were up to me as far as Mentor Roulette goes, I would keep the gil and tome rewards for that Roulette, but remove the Mount achievement reward from it.

And this is where a 2-way street is at. Mentors show up and teach mechanics to the new people. It is up to the new people to follow them. But if the new people are not willing to follow the advice of the mentors and the party wipes, the mentors will ultimately get discouraged from helping others learn about EX fights synced because some new players are just not willing to put in any effort apply the advice given by the mentors.

The most memorable example I can think of is Shiva EX's bow phase. All that people need to do is to stay behind close to Shiva so when Avalanche comes out, they would only take the damage and avoid getting into the outer freeze area. But players are all over the place during Bow Phase to the point where they either get knocked out by the Glass Dance arrows or get frozen into the outer circle from the Avalanche move when they are targeted by it. Most party wipes tend to snowball from there. [And newer players NOT getting in their designated waymarks for their targeted ice aoes in other phases can also be rather discouraging for veterans who farmed the fight.)

I clear 9/10 of the EX's I get in mentor roulette, usually in under 30 minutes. Of those that do fail, most of them are either nearly empty when I join or vote abandon shortly after.

Truly non-viable parties are actually an incredibly rare thing, even moreso these days, so when people are making these sweeping claims about the majority of EX parties failing or everyone else being stupid, I have to immediately question what is going on.

This is literally what mentor roulette is DESIGNED to do. If you do not like it, for the love of god do not queue it. If it's 'ruining your gameplay experience', it's your fault for queueing the roulette lmao.

I genuinely believe most people whining about EX's in mentor roulette are either bad at the game, not interested in teaching, or are just plain bad at instructing other players. Mentor roulette disaster runs are no more common than bad runs in any other roulette in the game.

This has been suggested for years. Since the mentor system was put into place, even.
