I'm gonna go completely off topic for a second and speculate paladin for a second, well since you left it out above and it has been such a huge topic lately.

I think many people are under the impression that being a tank solely means having all the hate and sustaining it. This is true to an extent. Both Warrior and Paladin are equipped for taking massive enmity.

Paladin on the other hand is blended with external healing and defensive properties. The niche for playing a paladin is not necessarily to be the ultimate tank, but to be someone who can save others by means than just getting the attention of a monster. A Warrior can not give life to a person getting mobbed, and he can not cover them either. But a paladin has access to the preventative sacred prism/stoneskin, cover, and much more. I guess what I'm saying is, even if Paladin isn't the best tank for the game's current battle situations, if done right they eliminate the NEED for extra healing and support, a spot that can be then left open for another damage dealer.

The life of a paladin is not about fighting for the sake of war, it is about fighting for the love of others.

What if you don't like WHM? You hate how they play and all? In WOW a PLD can be a healer, so can a druid. Yet both of these can be Tanks too. A PLD healer plays differently then a priest healer, they are both good and bring something different to the table while filling in the same role in a party. When you look to form a party, you look for a healer, WHM is your only choice... how about you had 2 or even 3 choices depending on how pple speced?

what i am saying is that the talent tree lets you play a class in different ways. You people argue that we can just switch jobs on the fly in XIV and that is superior but that is just forcing you to play a class/job you might not like.

But anyways, an advanced job system would be pretty cool too and fits well in a FF setup imo.

That's pretty cool but where does that chart pull it's data? Can't say the site you posted it from is a reliable source, still the numbers do look realistic. Also why does FFXI's graph stop to 2011 when the others go to 2012?

I edited my post. I apologize, i did not see that the post numbers ended in 2011. As i said, I'm sure its gone down, we can even say it might be at <300,000.

But still, compare that to what XIV has...

Final Fantasy XI was the 2nd highest subbed MMO under WoW for years. I support, and hope that people continue to get ideas from the 2. Couldn't hurt could it?

Bringing good ideas that work well is great and i don't care where it is from. I'm against pple wanting ideas from other games just for the sake of making XIV feel like that other game. Like gear swap... there's a bunch of threads about it, 99% are against it, S-E says they will not do it. Yet some hardcore XI fans keep begging for it.

Yet there's still people begging to turn this game into WoW. What's your point, honestly? There's more "No FFXI!" than there is "No WoW!" with this community lol. It's like the american civil war, 2 MMOs by the same company yet XIV community hate and want nothing to do with XI.

From a business standpoint, Final Fantasy XIV isn't financially sustainable with its extremelly low amount of subs. They need to import ideas, and start broadening their horizons. Start catering to the masses as compared to trying to please the few people they have that do not want the game to change.

Alas, I know... its coming in 2.0?

Guild Wars failed? Well I never. (the game had hundreds of thousands if not millions of potential skill setups and stat assignment further increased how much customisation you had)

I haven't played any other game with more battle customisation though so I dunno if there are other ones with even more ridiculously over the top battle customisation (the game had 1,319 skills for crying out loud! And you could only equip 8 at a time)

I don't see why specs/talent trees cant be achieved by exclusive traits similar to class/job actions, similar to boosting a character via 11 style meritting, but with the advantage of being "equipable" so it can be undone manually with minimal loss and as not to completely isolate yourself into one spec. There was lots of ideas/discussion in the past about tailoring class traits for mutually exclusive buffs or choosing routes to merit them (e.g. give second wind a MP regen or a HP regen), the devs never really picked up on it with any responses.
