What makes you think hrothgar are unrelated to gender locking? Yoshida said viera is the last race but SE only showed females and have said zero about males. If hrothgar is another race then it's likely that they're male only. One gender locked race for each gender essentially adds up to one new race. I seriously doubt SE would give more racial options to female characters. That would cause some serious backlash.

We also have extremely little information about what hrothgar are. So indepth discussion about them alone is actually pretty difficult. Almost everything is baseless guesswork save for their potential relationship with the female viera, because we do know female viera are confirmed as a playable race.

The dialogue can be changed if players really do play a male Viera and talk to the dramaturge for example.
Coming here and talking about lore, defending it while many already gave many examples of how "lore-breaking" a playable race already is, is just a weak argument. Just as Yugiri hides her face, telling you that her appearance might put you off while you are playing a Xaela yourself. MSQ vs. Playable characters is still something that can be countered vice versa.

I would not be thrilled all that much if another feline race gets added (and ronso reminds me of amal'ja somewhat...). I've been thinking what other animals are known for manes, and well...

Not to mention, we are taking their refugees now. Veira children don't show their gender for a while (comparative to our other races) so the likelihood of Eorzea getting Male Veira lore wise is pretty good.

Indeed, the only information we have on the Hrothgar right now are:

• A bug in the game showed them as being listed among the player character race selection which is how we know the name.
• The same bug showed if/else statements for male/female Hrothgar.
• We have one line of dialog from a Gladiator quest referencing a Hrothgar PC's majestic mane.

If we restricted discussion to that this thread would die very quickly.

I am still not 100% sure they are lions though. We already have a cat-race with a lion tail option and the tribes of one of the sub-groups of said race, Seekers of the Sun, are organized the same way lion prides are. If the Hrothgar are lion-like it would just seem kind of redundant.

I felt another feline inspired race would be rather redundant even if it's much more beastly than Miqo but then I realized that one of my life's biggest crushes ever, looks like this:

And now I wouldn't mind that much.

I’m thinking since Miqo’te isn’t just “house cat” but has a whole bunch of different things going into it, Hrothgae won’t be a “Lion Race”. I’m thinking it will be lion, wolves, bears oh my the ultimate predator themed race. So big bulky like bears with lion like manes. But it won’t be “purely lion.”
