I don't think they give you a notification upon log-in either, since I've seen some people say they logged in and didn't get one, and then were kicked not too long after.
If they're going to insist on doing this, posting a notification that appears as one logs in during the hour-long time frame before the shutdown would be advised.

The boot is a function solution to a problem being seen on every server: anti-afk abuse. Just because you aren't personally overburdened by login queues doesn't make the original problem go away. Every server will see a benefit, even if it's small.

As you said, it is just ten minutes, which is sandwich/bathroom time. However, the playerbase has every right to be angry, as this is a Balmung problem that is now affecting everyone.

My only issue with that stance is the assumption it's a Balmung only problem. Balmung is the most obvious sufferer, but anti-afk exploits negatively impact dungeon queues on every server.

Hrm.

I was under the impression that dungeon queues pulled from the data center. If there are players that are idling, while other players that want to queue for a duty can't log in, that would suggest that the duty queues would get longer.

On less busy servers, the difference may only be a few minutes, but it is still an improvement for people trying to actively play, especially with DPS queues being long even on unpopulated servers.

No, not on Hyperion.

The longest login queue I've ever had was maybe 2 minutes. This is a 10-minute delay preceded by a mandatory logoff.

I already get up and pee. I also run 40 miles per week. A mandatory break, if it occurs during my playtime, is of absolutely zero benefit. In fact, it causes me to wait before I can log in.

Shouldn't that be one of the benefits of playing on a normally populated server? Not having to wait to log in?

I guarantee you, nobody likes this outside of Balmung. Nobody will say, "oh yay, I love this because ???!"

Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy band-aid on a Balmung problem.
