Everyone knows guilds in games exist so you get to bond with lots of people and then you can all go your separate ways when the company decides to save money on market research and infrastructure. Makes sense.

They did upgrade Areic, that's what a DATA CENTER move is. They moved the data to newer servers. They just didn't add more physical servers to accommodate more players other than the one EU server.

Honestly, they can increase server capacity, we're in the age of technology you can do that. Problem is, they need to keep it locked once they do that if not enough people transfer, you can keep increasing but people will just keep coming because it's the most populated and there's always plenty of people around ( It being the primary unofficial RP server doesn't help at all )
Nightmare...? How is...
....Oh. Right, Balmung. Well, you made a very poor server choice. Still having no queues getting in.
And this "antiquated system" is what allows us to have $12.99-15.99 a month subs which is multiplatform that mac, pc and ps players all access together instead of being locked to pc only, mac only or ps only servers like Ark. Anything fancier would then have people crying about a $25 a month or more sub.
Well, somebody didn't learn from it. You're still on the most populated server.
If you don't like being on such an overcrowded server, then get off of it and move elsewhere, where you won't have these problems.
Or if you do want to be on such an overcrowded server, then accept the cost of your own choice.
Most of us would be perfectly willing to accept hearing a bit of frustration at the costs you've chosen, but this attitude of anger and belligerence, blaming SE for a choice you yourself make is pretty childish. SE is making it easy for you to avoid the problem if you actually wanted to avoid it. But when you choose not to and still complain about it, what sort of reaction would you expect?
ESO is 0 $ a month and yet it features region wide megaservers. With sharding (a technology that wasn't available 14 years ago) it is possible. Also, lack of platform wide servers on this game is due to the consoles builder policies (especially on microsoft's side).
There are no excuses for the current server architecture, especially when so many things are already cross servers in FFXIV (like parties, duty finder, etc). I mean when you end up with like 2h 30 server queues, it is simply unacceptable in a 2017's MMORPG (and I'm not even on one of the most populated server).
Yeah, while I have no sympathy for those who complain about long queue times on high population servers (it's the trade off); as anyone who chooses to play on these servers has to learn to live with long queue times during these moments, myself—being a Greg player—included, so kudos to you for being willing to stick it out in the long queues. I do agree with the disconnect thing however; it really shouldn't kick you back if you disconnect in the middle of the line. However, I am not sure if it is possible to hold your place in line, and I don't have too much experience with networking.
