They have been overpopulated, but the problem is that keeps rising. There may be issues with the patch, but if that was the case, EVERY datacenter would have issues. Aether's is generally because of Balmung and Greg not being sustainable.

More sustainable servers would solve that issue, if speculation is correct and it's overpopulation plus cross pf stress, their equipment just can't handle what's happening. I'd say it's like a ddos except in this case it's unintentionally happening. It's only happened on Aether, not primal or anywhere else, so that whole fishing thing just seems like smoke and mirrors to start with.

This is why the data center going down is bad, everyone just starts having weird arguments with themselves.

Oh, that may have been an actual issue, but it may not be the root cause.
They have lots of sustainable servers, people just transferred off for "greener pastures." In reality, they need to lock down Balmung and Greg, and LEAVE them locked, to EVERYTHING. No world transfers to either, and free transfers off, along with the removal of the gil restriction specifically for people leaving them. Add housing wards to the other servers and make it so you can transfer housing between servers.
