I'd definitely prefer samurai as a dps class.
i guess kind of like MCH/BRD when they use their "cast" extension, you cast your spells at range, and then sword skills, since auto attacks are physical, it will be like auto attacking with any caster/healer=rubbish damage.
Also we only saw 5 skills from what i can count, and we'll maybe have something around 30-35 skills (or since they want to reduce skill bloat, maybe still around the 27-30 we have now - so RDM can seamlessly cast spells at range, and do melee combo in melee range.
i think ppl are exaggerating a bit, there was no such problem in HW, because lv cap went up- many ppl will cap their mains before taking up the new jobs, unless they are super hyped and WANT the new jobs as their mains over any other job.
there's nothing forcing you to run PotD, it's just one of the best options (so far) there's roulettes with XP bonus, new beast tribe quests (the HW beast quests give quite a lot of XP, and im sure the new beast quests in SB, will give tonnes, too) MSQ, side quests, FATEs; you can switch it up and do whatever.
I'm mostly a DPS player and I think SE should go tank with this one. SAM could be a good chance to both make Parry a viable stat and have a competitor for the Warrior slot in a raid. Given the obvious "cool" factor, it could also shift more of the playerbase towards tanks, which is more healthy for the solo DPS queues.
Now, if we make SAM a DPS class then what? Most likely a vast number of players would just flock on both RDM and SAM, given the forementioned "cool" factor. It would only escalate the queues for DPS players for the longest of times. And to be honest, aside from the "there's no sword-wielding DPS class!!" the only positive thing regarding game balance it could achieve is to have a 3rd class to compete for the STR loot. Slashing damage synergy? We are more in need of Blunt damage synergy tbh, as currently only Monks benefit from that, and the class is largely struggling as is.
Diversity of gameplay? We already have a handful of DPS classes, with varying playstyles, with the RDM coming down the road as well. Pretty much every DPS class has a competitor for the slot in raid (albeit Monk is regarded as weak for now). The tanks? Ehhh, they only have 3 classes atm, one of which is an instapick for the OT slot. Warrior has no real comptetitor at all, since PLD/DRK compete for the MT slot.
Then again, we might not even get SAM in the close future. I might change my stance on this depending what happens in 4.0, but as of now, I don't really see a point for the addition of a second DPS class for Stormblood.
Now that Red Mage has been confirmed as a dps, I don't think they're gonna make Samurai a dps too. However making Samurai a tank will not create more tanks, like Dark Knight, it will create less War/PLD/DKN. People that don't like tanking won't change their mind, whichever tanking class you bring into the game.
That might be true, but how many do so consistently? Relying on data that shows that people got tanks to 60 isn't quite the same as how many got to 60 and are still reliably playing as one. I got two to 60, but refuse to tank unless two of the other party members are in the FC, and even then getting me to tank is a bit of a stretch.
