Revamping Astrologian

A tenth of a second is not that large n the grand scheme of things. And I honestly have not been seeing a lot of the same issues that people have been posting with. And neither have some of the other AST in my FC. YES There are some issues but not near as dire as some of the post would have you believe. The shield being lower is something i have to account for when playing AST and knowing when and how to use my CD as well as have a tank that knows to rotate their own CDs which I've had to instruct tanks to do and once they did that things went VERY smooth.

We already know that AST's flaws can be carried easily with a coordinated group.

I wouldn't call expecting someone to do their best at a job being carried. If I was to be lazy like some tanks on any healer class we would be wiping. Same goes for DPS. If one is being lazy. Everyone else must pick up the slack. Why should healers be expected to work harder when the tank isn't using all they have available.

If someone is not willing to bring their all to a group that is not a job specific problem. That is a player specific problem.

I find that Noctural stance is drying MP more than Diurnal stance UNLESS you almost never use the aspected Benefic/Helios on Noctural stance... Which is a little sad since it's the role of the stance. So yeah, Benefic + Benefic 2 + Helios heal more in Noctural, it is very noticeable but you go in Noctural to support the WHM and use the Aspected spells, that are sadly on the contrary unoticeable as they break so fast. Only the Aspected Benefic Noct is interesting in the way it's instant cast, but still.

Tried the 2 stances in Alexander 1&2, Diurnal wins.

Diurnal all the time, even with WHM since double regen/med2 is nice.

Yeah I can see them stacking being beneficial how was Alexander 1&2 on your overall mana use?

I think Alexander will be where we start truly seeing where things need to be tweaked with this job.

For the card system, what if an AST draws his cards and when they are cast their effect will last for the rest of the fight. The cards also stack, so as the fight progresses the entire party is slowly getting stronger. This would address the RNG issue, would make ASTs more viable (at least where their cards are concerned). It would add an interesting element to raid groups. Obviously there is more to adjust for this systemic change, like the amount of buff each card gives. There could even be a limit of how many cards are in play (like say 10 cards) which would allow you to burn cards and say stack 10 Bole cards on the tank.

I feel like this would make the cards less RNG dependent and increase their effectiveness. The card system would be simpler, at least in my mind. Pull a DPS card, slap it on a DPS, pull a tank card, slap it on a tank, etc.

It was perfect, I had more than necessary that I could have used it to dps, but for the first run I played it safe by healing only.

The third one looks more difficult though, didn't have time to see how it goes overall.

What was your item lvl? Won't get a chance to run through it till Friday night but can't wait. I may end up rushing my sch to 60 over the weekend if AST becomes too much of a hindrance but won't know till I try it.

I have noticed AST feels more gear dependent than any other healer class. Wondered if other have felt the same.

The problem is that the other healers can do everything so much better than AST, both the healing and supporting. If people start to slack, those healers can much more easily keep things going smoothly, and we already know that SCH offers better support. AST is capable, but just not good enough and when other players have to change how they play to account for a particular healer, clearly there's a problem. Yes playing their best is nice, but if they don't have to do that with other healers but they do in order for AST to get by, clearly AST is lacking. If people need to be perfect for the healer to perform well, how much is the healer really even contributing at that point?

Hoping this doesn't come off as elitist so apologize if it does, but as you're not 60 with AST according to your profile are you reiterating what someone else has said or your own experience. As I've said before when all team members are working together and not slacking I have honestly not noticed a lot of issues aside from the card issues. Yes as a whm and scholar players are able to be more lax and lazy than they can be when an AST is healing them. To be a devils advocate on that I would be more concerned with SE nerfing other healer classes to put them on par with AST which from a balancing stand point it is easier to nerf than buff. People saying the other healer classes allow tanks and DPS to be lazy and that sends a message to SE that those jobs need a little more difficulty. Just something to be mindful of.
