Simple reasons :)

BLM do more DPS over long fights due to unlimited mana XD Foe Req is more effective with BLM than SMN pushing them even more, plus their burst is higher and more consistent on demand for add phases than SMN. (I wont go into specifics to not put spoilers.)

Also we were struggling to clear, like sub 5% wipes due to enrage until he switched to BLM which gave us that extra DPS to get the clear.

The only reason machinist, astrologian, and dark knight are class-less jobs is so when you buy the expansion you can play them right away. Another possibility that is likely is that Ishgard cant have traditional guilds like in the citystates since it's at war.

While I agree that we aren't losing classes, I don't see what them being classless jobs would have to do with being able to play them right away. I doubt it has to do with any lore reason in general, and more to do with the simple fact that classes just are kind of a poor design at this point. The switch from class to job is pretty artificial, or so I think.

It's less the classes themselves and more the self-imposed limitations that the developers have placed on their design. For some reason every stat has to have the same use for every class/job, job crystals can do nothing more than grant the 5 new abilities and give a slight stat boost, job crystals cannot act as modifiers to class abilities, job crystals cannot have their own traits to change how a job plays to make it slightly more mechanically different from the class it is based on, and so on.

The funny thing is that job crystals in concept would allow for a lot of these things to be implemented and work alongside classes.

SE screwed up the class/job system with this class > job design. Classes are what player characters are Jobs are how players play.

Lore wise CNJ should have become BLM because they had access to all the elements, they could have simply channeled the destructive side of the elementals. Same with THM making more sense as a WHM because Nald'thal deals with life and death, they could have focused on the life aspect of Nald'thal.

There's no real reason to keep classes anymore, back in the day when the system was designed or at least envisioned around the idea of creating a custom class, and certain specializations and combinations of abilities would create a job, it made sense. Nowadays with the WoWification of the game they really should be abolished.

Lore wise it's really easy to justify it, simply make it so that the job quest NPCs have now joined the existing guilds and are imparting their knowledge, prompting a name change, it's a brand new era after all. Classes could still there as a sort of rank, a low level WHM is ranked as a CNJ until level 30 when he starts becoming a full fledged WHM, but there's no real CNJ class anymore and soul crystals are either abolished or obtained at rank 1. Of course this would need an entire new questline and story for each job to be created, which requires a lot of resources and this game loves saving on costs.

Then there's that fact they shot themselves on the foot the moment they branched two jobs off a single class to save costs, so they'd also need to make both SMN and SCH entirely different, which would take even more resources. I think it'd be worth it in the end, and they certainly have the resources they need to do it especially with all that cash shop money, but who knows.

Despite all the complaining from nostalgic Summoners, you do know there are people that like the job how it is now, right? There are people that like it as a dot/pet job.

And I never once said they should remove their dots or their pet aspect either, despite what the entirely different part might lead you to believe. SCH would at least need new base abilities, whether they're still dots or not, if they were indeed going to abolish classes and did it right instead of copy pasting their base abilities. It's all just speculation anyway since there's no real word on what's going to happen to existing classes and jobs yet.

People complaining about summoner aren't necessarily doing so because of the dot/pet job aspect. Many of them wants summoner to Just either be a viable single target dps or get enough utility to justify their current dps.

Smn Just wants to have fun with any content like other jobs can :p

In a thread titled "ACN removed, SMN remade", what could "entirely different" mean? LOL. Sorry for jumping the gun, but all these threads with people being unhappy with Summoner, and their fixes are just a bit upsetting. There are, I counted, three groups of disgruntled Summoners: one group that is unhappy with inordinate amount of spell speed found on 2.4 gear, another group that is unhappy with the job's endgame (specifically FCoB) performance, and one where FF14's Summoner doesn't mesh with their view of what a Summoner is/should be. And all the complaining has created a fairly ugly atmosphere. But as you said, it's nothing but speculation. I hope in end, nothing changes about the job.
