its a sad state of affairs when you blame people for connection issues. this shit is retarded, how do people not know that this game is infamously fucking laggy by now? people gettin DC'd all the time when instance servers are packed. come on.
This^^^^^^^^^
The idiots shouting gear reqs and trying to pretend they are "leet" are idiots. If they were any good, they would be in a high end guild doing something fun.
The louder people yell, the stupider they are- it should be obvious- only a terrible player that wasn't bright would use gear as a measure of skill... because that is clearly what they rely on to convince others and themselves that they are "special".
Usually these people got carried somehow, then use their gear to try to exclude others (because lets face it.. the raid already has to carry them, it can't afford to carry even more people like them...)
I'm going to go one step further and say this is the way western internet society is. I remember seeing posts on elitism in FFXIV and english players on the Japanese servers reporting they noticed a big difference in the maturity of the gaming community there compared to the NA/EU servers. While there are of course exceptions to the rule, generally speaking on NA/EU servers you'll find most players rushing content and being self-focused (selfish) in regards to progression.
Here the DF is a wasteland where you can expect the beginners and the fools to join. It is where you learn to play and who cares if you make mistakes since you have no reputation to rely on. In contrast, on the Japanese servers the goal is for community progression. It's a part of the culture to respect the community before yourself, where shout groups will host beginner groups for people to practise with, and the DF is where you can go once you're good and world/server first has little meaning if you pushed yourself in front of everyone to get there.
Disclaimer: I've not witnessed this culture 1st hand on the JP servers, just going off what I've seen other western players notice while being on them.
^^ I can attest to this, on Masamune at least.
I've only had 2 bad experiences with using DF with Japanese groups: once in Garuda story where the tank apparently spoke neither English nor Japanese (I tried both) and didn't know to tank away from the rocks. Another was a WP group that didn't speak at all and was clearly there for a speed run, which I didn't mind, except the tank couldn't hold aggro very well.
One easy way for me to tell if a group is JP-only or queued for every language in DF, is whether anyone ever talks or even just say 'hi, let's take this slow/do it fast/it's my first time'. The players in the latter group rarely do.
It's a system of no fun for people just starting a new game to see only leetism players with everything bully players that just started and don't have things. It's something that needs to be dealt with so that people don't ragequit FFXIV for good. Time to stamp leetism out for good!
